Onimusha was a badass series back in the day that, although successful, disappeared from the public eye in 2012. Featuring pretty awesome hack n slash combat, the series even featured Jean Reno (from the Professional, among a ton of other sweet-ass flicks) as a main character, which, although somewhat common today, was pretty unprecedented when they did it in Onimusha 3

The series used real, historical figures that shaped Japan's history, but would retell their stories with supernatural elements. Most of the games are of the action-adventure game genre, with a combination of third person combat and light puzzle solving, where the protagonist wields the power of the "Oni", enabling them to fight the Genma, the main enemy of the series. There were multiple weapons to master, and elemental magic enhanced your attacks (basically, ninja magic).

Now, Capcom might be about to revive the Onimusha franchise, as they have been registering multiple Onimusha trademarks in Mexico, Canada, the Philippines, Australia, and with the European Union Intellectual Property Office in Europe. The trademarks cover a wide spread, from video games, mobile games, and merchandise as well.

It's possible Capcom is just keeping it's trademarks current, or they could be doing a re-release or collection. Or... it could be a badass new Onimusha game.

What do you think? Is it too late to revive Capcom's 7th best selling franchise? Have Dark Souls (and their clones) boxed out a return of this once beloved series?

Lemme know what you think in the comments.
