This story line was already (poorly/kind of) done in the abhorrent BVS: Dawn Of Justice, which was a piece of garbage not to be spoken of. From the looks of this trailer, they might be on the right track this time around, although they are definitely taking some liberties, mostly with the inclusion of the Justice League and the massive invasion shown towards the end of the trailer.
"The Death of Superman" story itself is divided into three parts: the first, "Doomsday!", follows Superman's fight with Doomsday and ends with the two heavyweights KO'ing each other, with Superman dying. The second, "Funeral for a Friend", depicts Superman's superhero homies grieving and showing how the world reacts without Superman there to save everyone's ass all the time. The third part of the story is "Reign of the Supermen!", which this animated film will focus on, with the introduction of Cyborg Superman, Superboy, Steel and the Eradicator.
This film is a follow-up to 2018's Death of Superman, and I think it's a smart idea to do a film solely focused on the 4 Superman imposters, since you would almost have to do all three parts as separate films to make the whole thing coherent and cohesive, and we already saw Superman fight some sort of mushy CGI monster named Doomsday last year, plus the Death of Superman animated flick. This way, the focus is completely on the new Superman, all who are interesting in their own right.
