A GUIDE TO THE SIDE QUESTS
(and other side stuff)
Hey y'all, this is my first FAQ, and is hopefully very well written. As
you see at the top of the screen, this is a FAQ/WALKTHROUGH to the many
_SIDE QUESTS_ of the game, and will not have any walkthrough sections
on the main parts of the game and such. There are many walkthroughs for
the game on the gamefaqs website. This guide does have spoilers ahead,
and I WILL NOT be careful to avoid them. You have been warned.
The main reason I wrote this is because I was in dire need of a
complete, detailed list of all the side quests in this game. Most of
the walkthroughs have almost all of these quests, but none has all of
them. So, in order to save you the time, I decided to write a FAQ
specially devoted to the side quests in the game. The main side quests
can be accomplished in this game are almost all on disc three. You
should be able to beat all the side quests by the time you get the
Ragnorok(which is basically the end of the game anyway). PLEASE NOTE:
My main source for the information of this faq is the strategy guide
made by Brady on the American version of the game, but I did not just
copy the guide word for word, I just looked at it for ideas. I did,
though, copy all stats and listings from the guide, so thanks to the
makers of the guide for that! I tried to make, to the best of my
ability, the directions clear, and, put it in a format to give you
clues to the locations so you can have a little fun instead of
completely cheating and just doing what the FAQ says. Any questions
should be mailed to the address above.
- R E V I S I O N H I S T O R Y
11/26/99 1.0 First release. Have the side quests section
finished but that's about it for now, and
a chunk of the G.F. section done.
- CONTRIBUTIONS/HELP WANTED!!! -
A couple of contributions and help which I would like:
- A good strategy on defeating Omega Weapon.
- The attacks of the bosses.
- Any mistakes that I might have on the file.
- I used an incorrect font, and my format got all messed up. If you
see any incorrect line breaks or charts, then tell me.
- Suggestions for a better faq.

Unlike the strategy guide, I will not be listing all the side quests in
a specific order. I put all the side quests under the specific genre
(so if you're missing a G.F., for example, then look under the G.F.
section ). But, MAKE SURE that you check the SIDE QUESTS section, as
those are extra quests that don't particularly have anything to do with
the other sections and just get you rare items or tidbits on the story.

Here I will explain all the very many side quests of this game. To
become a master at this game, you have to beat every one of these...
ALSO, BIG NOTE: Almost all of these side-quests MUST MUST MUST be
completed before disc three, due to time compression.
-+-+-+-+-+-
|Obel Lake|
-+-+-+-+-+-
North of Timber is a lake with water a slightly different color than
normal (kinda looks murky). There should be a small peninsula reaching
into the center of the lake. Go to the edge of the this peninsula and
search it for a set of hidden options to appear.
It will ask you:
> Throw a Rock
> Try Humming
Try humming, and a 'black shadow' should appear. If not, keep trying.
The shadow will tell you that his friend Mr. Monkey is lost, and asks
you to help find the monkey. He gives you two clues: 'Mr. Monkey may
have hopped a train toward Dollet', and 'Mr. Monkey likes hanging out
inside of forests'.
Have you guessed where he is? He's in the forest west of Dollet. Just
walk around, and eventually you'll run into Mr. Monkey. Either choice
will make him run for it, so just go back to Obel Lake. Now, the shadow
will give you clues to 'stones' randomly:
'Take a break at the railroad bridge'
'At the beach near Balamb, something special washes up sometimes'
'Take time off at the Eldbeak Peninsula'
'You'll find something on an island east of Timber'
'You'll find something on top of a mountain with a lake and cavern'
'Back in the day, there used to be a small but beautiful village south
of here surrounded by deep forrests'
'Mr. Monkey had a rock like this'
NOTE: These are easier to accomplish with Enc-None on.
'At the beach near Balamb, something special washes ashore at times'
The beach on the Balamb continent houses many rocks, just search the
area constantly pressing X until you find the rock with 'STSLRM'
'You'll find something on an island east of Timber, too'
There's an island east of timber without shores...fly Ragnarok there
and search the island for rocks until you find the one REAIDR.
'There's also something on top of a mountain with a lake and cavern'
Near the Galbadia garden site, there should be a mountain with a
cavern with water coming out of it. Go on top of that mountain
(Monterosa Plateau) and search the area directly above the cavern.
There, you'll find a bird warming it's eggs. Select 'check it out'
and you'll fight a Cokatrice. Kill it, then get the rock, which says
EASNPD.
'Mr. Monkey had a rock like this I think...'
First of all, go to the peninsula and throw rocks. Throw 'em until
it says 'The rock skipped many many times'. After this, go to the
forest with Mr. Monkey. Find him, and throw rocks at him ^-^.
Eventually, he'll throw a rock back at you, saying URHAEO.
Now...put the rocks together for the final clue (go back to the lake
and
the shadow will display the rocks in this order)
S T S L R M
U R H A E O
R E A I D R
E A S N P D
See a pattern? If you read it from top right down the list of letters,
it will say MORDREDPLAINSHASTREASURE; Mordred plains has treasure.
Go to the Mordred Plains, which is north of Esthar.
Here, different stones are all over the place. The one you really want
to pay attention to is the red stones. They lie; meaning you should do
exactly opposite of what they say. If they say that the treasure isn't
there, then it's there; check it a second time to receive it. The
treasure is a Three Stars, which teaches the ever useful Expendx3-1
ability.
'Take a break at the railroad bridge'
Well, he hints to the many draw points around the world that are
located on railroad bridges.
'Take time off at the Eldbeak Peninsula'
Go to the Eldbeak Peninsula, which is located north of the Balamb
Continent. Check around it for a stone which says:
TRETIMEASUREATMINOFFDEISLE
Figure it out?
Take the clue literally, and take out the words TIME OFF from the
stones. It should now say TREASURE AT MINDE ISLE. Minde Isle is
located south of Esthar, and you'll get a Luck-J scroll for your
effort.
'Back in the day, south of here, there used to be a small but beautiful
village surrounded by deep forests. Everyone lived a happy life there'
In Centra, there should be a forest with a round grassy clearing in
middle of it. Inspect it, and Squall will mention that there's a lot
of rubble around. Now, the best part of this side quest...
THERE'S NOTHING HERE!!!
-+-+-+-+-+-+-
|Centra Ruins|
-+-+-+-+-+-+-
On the Centra continent are two areas which you can explore...Edea's
house, and the Centra Ruins. It's around the Centra crater. I would
recommend you do this right after you get the mobile garden.
- Getting Odin
The first time you enter the ruins, there will be a timer for 20
minutes on the screen. I would recommend that for now, you keep
Enc-None on. First, climb all the stairs and go up on the altar
elevator. After this, climb the left stairs all the way to the
top and into the room with the machinery. Here, you'll want to
activate the switch. Now, climb back down.
After getting back now, there should be another switch that lit up.
Activate this switch to open up a stairway. Go up the stairway all
the way up. Here, you'll be able to see a statue with one eye in it.
Climb the small ladder and take the eye from the statue. Now, go up
the stairs on the right to the top.
Here, take the eye you had and put it in the missing socket of the
statue here. A random code will appear. Remember this number. Now,
take both eyes out of the socket and go back down to the previous
statue.
At the statue, put both eyes in the socket, and an place to input a
code should appear. Here, use the directional keys to input the code
you saw at the top of the ruins. After this, a door should open up
and you'll be able to fight Odin.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
BOSS BATTLE: HP:
Odin 1300 - 31000
Really easy. Hopefully, you have 13-17 minutes left. The more the
better. First of all, scan him. After that, hit him until he has about
two more hits worth of HP left. After this, constantly draw triple,
since the magic junctions well. Keep on drawing until you have about
30-40 seconds left, then defeat him.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
- Tonberry King
Ok, first of all, you'll want to have stored a lot of Hi-Potions and
Phoenix Downs. This quest is NOT easy, and failing it can be a very
big waste of time. It took me about 40 minutes to do, but I died on
the king and had to do it all over again. Slower players can take up
to 2 hours to do this quest, so BE CAREFUL!!!
The party you want for this is Zell, Squall, and your most 3rd most
useful character (I recommend Rinoa). Now, you have to be in the
beginning area of the ruins. The objective is to kill 18 - 22
Tonberries, in a row, and without leaving or saving! Once this is
accomplished, the Tonberry King appears at random.
MAJOR NOTE: There is a rumor out there that instead of killing 20
tonberries, all you need to do is have 20 chef knives. If this is true,
than fighting the king could be MUCH MUCH easier. I've never had the
patience to try it out, though, and I would appreciate it if someone
confirmed this for me (by trying it out themselves, not relying on
another guide).
My strategy is to keep Zell and Squall's HP REAL LOW. Also, make
sure you have learned Zell's Meteor Drive limit. Tonberries have
A LOT of HP (around 20000), and also have an attack which deals
about 2000 damage. The catch is, they have to walk across the whole
screen before they can hit you (unless they do everyone's grudge,
which I'm not sure how it works). Begin the battle with Squall
attacking with Renzokuken. After that, use Zell's duel. Depending on
your luck, you may start with a lot or little time. Nevertheless,
always do this chain of attacks: Punch Rush, Meteor Drive, Mach
kick, OR, Booya, Heel Drop, Meteor Drive (whichever one is easier
for you). For every second, you should be able to do 2-3 attacks per
second, at least. Practice those moves, and you'll able to kill a
tonberry with 1-3 duel attacks, meaning killing a tonberry can take
as little as 2 minutes! If you use summons or attacks, then it can
take upto 5 minutes per battle, meaning it really will take you 2
hours to do this quest. After the 20th or so kill, the Tonberry King
will appear.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
BOSS BATTLE: HP:
Tonberry King 2500-250000
Draw: Death, Cure, Life (LV. 1-19)
Death, Cura, Life (LV. 20-29)
Death, Curaga, Full-Life (LV. 30-100)
Weakness: NONE
Status Weakness: NONE
Strong against: NONE
I would recommend that you fight him when he's at level 30+, since
that's when he would have more useful magics to draw. First of all,
make
sure that at least 2 characters have the draw command. The other can
have either draw or item. All the characters should have the G.F.
command, and maybe magic as the missing spot.
You DON'T want to die against this foe. If you do, you'll have to do
the
whole tonberry killing process again. I would NOT recommend you fight
him at level 100, since he'll have some 250,000 HP (!) then.
What you want to do, is attack with all your best G.F. Cast protect as
a minimum, and maybe haste. If possible, attack with limits, but
concentrate on using powerful G.F. instead. He has a selection of
attacks: It's sharp can do anywhere from 1-9999 damage, and I'm not
exactly sure how this damage is calculated. Be careful of this attack.
His normal attack can do about a thousand to a single character. His
toybox drop can cause 1500 damage to all.
If any of your characters fall into low HP, draw cast curaga on
him/her. If they're killed, then draw cast full-life. The battle can be
tough, especially at later levels, and is time consuming. Good luck!
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
-+-+-+-+-+-
|Shumi Tribe|
-+-+-+-+-+-
The Shumi Tribe is located on a large island northwest of Trabia, it's
on your map. Here, you can find an ultima draw point (5000 gil per
use!)and some other interesting things.
Explore the village. I don't exactly want to explain what to do step by
step, after all, then it would seem like a walkthrough to the game. The
side quest part is the stone quest and the doll quest.
The locations to the stones are:
- Blue Stone
Just to the left of the Laguna statue
- Wind Stone
On a boulder just to the left of the hotel
- Life Stone
Tree roots to the right of the Elder's house
- Shadow Stone
At the surface where the ultima draw point is; check every area with
shadow.
- Water Stone
Check the stone the frog is sitting on, then check for it at the
artisan's house (it's used for washing)
After this, the statue is completed. Go to the elder to get a...
PHEONIX PINION!!!!
After the statue is completed and you got your prize, talk to the
Elder's Attendant in the workshop. After this, go to the elder to ask
for more assistance. After this, go talk to the moomba outside.
Follow the moomba and then return to the elder. He'll say that he needs
another helper for the completion of the statue. Go back and speak with
the elder's attendant. After this, go talk to the artisan. Go back to
the elder, and you'll be asked to find a way to convince the artisan.
Go to FH and speak with the grease monkey (lives in a repair shop).
He'll give you a moomba doll. Go back to the tribe, and show the elder
the doll to receive a status guard.
-+-+-+-
|Winhill|
-+-+-+-
There are a couple of things you can do in Winhill.
- The Vase Quest
If you visit the mansion near Raine's old house, there will be a
person inside who will ask you for help locating a vase, which
unfortunately has shattered.
The pieces of the vase can be found throughout the town. The first
piece is located in a suit of armor inside the mansion. The second
piece is located in Laguna's old house - in the white flowers. The
third piece is located in Raine's house; talk to the lady living
there until she starts talking about the smell of the flowers
downstairs. Go downstairs and observe the flowers on the lower fight
corner of the screen. Raine's spirit will appear. Speak to it and a
cat will replace it. Inspect the cat to find the last piece of the
vase. Return the pieces to the person in the mansion to receive a
Holy Stone.
-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-
|Chocobo Forest|
-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-
This is definitely a tough and time consuming quest. In order to finish
it, you need to solve the puzzle in each chocobo forest. The rewards
are pretty good, and you get a Chicobo card in the end too!
What you want to do in each forest is to get only one chicobo remaining
on the screen. Sometimes you have to call them out in a certain order.
I really cannot describe the order in which to do all this without
pictures...sorry. If anyone has good instructions to this quest, please
tell me!!
-+-+-+-+-+-
|CC Members|
-+-+-+-+-+-
On Balamb garden are some expert card players. For one, I recommend
that you have some good cards before taking on this quest. Also, you
need to have won about 15-20 card players before you can actually play
the members. Also, please note,
The CC members are not that easy. The first one, Jack, can be found
walking around the directory every once in a while. After you beat him,
you can face the Joker. He can be found in the training center; he was
the one who sold items on the 'plank' near the blizzard draw point. He
appears randomly, so it could take a while. Also, he has the Leviathan
card, so remember to get it!
The next member, Club, can be found wandering the hall area around the
dormitory, cafeteria, and parking lot. After challenging them, go back
to the directory. Sometimes, two girls will be walking up to the
directory. After they stop, challenge them and you'll see that they're
the Diamond.
The next member is Spade, who is found on the second floor, near the
elevator. He is in the same place that the guy who gave you the 7 cards
in the beginning of the game was. Please note, though, he does appear
very randomly.
The fifth member, Heart, is Xu, who is found on the bridge. She has the
Carbuncle card, so make sure you nab it from her.
The final CC member is a little bit more difficult to find than the
other members. First, speak with Nida (on the bridge) and then go
challenge Dr. Kadowaki. She'll mention the king. Now, go back to the
dorms and take a nap. If any party members are with you, they have to
leave, so pick that option when at the dorm. The King will appear
randomly, so just constantly try napping. The King has the Gilgamesh
card, so make sure you get it.
Have you found it strange, that say, when you fought in a certain area,
a little UFO appeared? It sure as hell was that way for me! Before
taking on this quest, It us required you have Ragnarok, Enc-None, and 5
Elixirs.
The first encounter is at the Winhill Bluffs, which is near, you
guessed it, WINHILL!! The second is on Mandy Beach, a shoreline near
Timber (check your menu to see your current location). The third is on
Kashkabald Desert, which is east of the Centra Ruins, and is the desert
right to the right of Cactuar Island. There are two ways to get here.
Either you get a chocobo at the forest west of the desert and go the
long way, or you just fly Ragnarok there. The final encounter is east
of Trabia, on an island east of Heath Peninsula (actually, the island
is counted as part of the Peninsula; could this be a glitch?)
After you have encountered the UFO in all four locations, go to the
plateau just north of the Chocobo Forest in the Grandidi Forest. The
Grandidi Forest is that huge forest area north of Esthar. Defeat the
UFO
(it ain't that hard) than go to the old Balamb garden site. There, you
will encounter the alien PuPu.
Here, you have two options: You can give it five elixirs and receive
the PuPu card, or you could kill the thing and get an Accelerator. I
would get the card, but it's your choice.
-+-+-+-+-+-
|Card Queen|
-+-+-+-+-+-
This is probably the second most difficult and longest quest in the
game. It WILL most DEFINETELY require a large amount of patience, and a
crapload of resetting (remember the R1R2L1L2StartSelect trick!). If you
remember, in Balamb, there was a Queen of Cards just outside the Balamb
station. She will remain in Balamb until you lose/win a rare card to
her. When that happens, she will move on to another town. What your
goal should be is to get her to move to Dollet. She has different
chances in different towns to go to different towns. When she does move
to Dollet, she will have a new option in her list when you talk to. If
you select that option, she'll request a rare card so she could give
her father the card to make a new rare card. When you lose that card to
her, her father will paint a new card, and that card will be given to
someone around the world. The old card (MiniMog for example) will be
given to the queen's brother, who lives in the artist's house (south of
the pub). Play him to receive the card.
What makes this quest so frustrating is that when you do lose a rare
card, she'll move to another city, and you'll have to chase her down
back to Dollet again. When you do lose a card, you'll have to play HER
to receive the card, meaning doing the quest and retrieving your lost
cards will literally take hours.
NOTE: You can only lose the requested cards in Dollet!
She'll want these cards in this order:
=======================================================================
Card |New Card |New Location
=======================================================================
MiniMog Kiros Deling City, man in black near Junk
shop.
Sacred Irvine F.H., Flo who is the Mayor's wife
Chicobo Chubby Chocobo Balamb Garden, guy sitting on bench
in hall outside of library.
Alexander Doomtrain Timber, pub owner
Doomtrain Phoenix Esthar, Presidential Palace,
assistant outside of library.
=======================================================================
Here's a chart of where the queen will move.
=======================================================================
Current Area |Chance of where she'll move to
=======================================================================
Balamb Dollet(37.5%); Deling City(62.5%)
Deling City Balamb, Dollet, Winhill(12.5%); F.H.(62.5%)
Dollet Balamb(37.5%); Deling City(62.5%)
Shumi Village Balamb(25%); Dollet(50%); Lunar Gate(25%)
Winhill Deling City, Dollet(37.5%); F.H.(25%)
F.H. Dollet(12.5); Winhill(25%); Esthar(62.5%)
Esthar Dollet, F.H.(12.5%); Shumi(25%); Lunar Gate(50%)
Lunar Gate Sure as hell any place in the world, good luck
finding her, since she goes anywhere without
giving a clue from here!!!
=======================================================================
Some tips to minimize time:
- You should NEVER EVER let her go to the Lunar Gate, and it wouldn't
be
smart to let her go to Deling City, F.H., or Esthar.
- I _REALLY_ recommend that you abolish the random rule from the Dollet
area, since it'll be near impossible to get the queen to take the cards
she wants with it.
MY METHOD OF ABOLISHING:
First of all, go to an area that has at least one new rule to the area
that has the rule you want to abolish. At the area with the new rule,
play somebody there so that you could 'remember' that rule.
FOR EXAMPLE:
Balamb has the open rule. Dollet has Elemental and Random. You want
to abolish Random, so go play someone at Balamb to remember the open
rule.
Now, go to the area with the rule you want to abolish. Play somebody
there (make sure they say something like 'Oh, you have new rules, so
lets play with [new rule area's] rules and ours!'). One of three things
will happen: Either you will abolish a rule, spread a rule, or nothing
will happen. If the desired effect fails to occur, then I would reset
until it does.
- You can do a little 'chain'. What you want to do is get the queen to
Dollet from Balamb. After this, get her to go back to Balamb, then
repeat the process. That will prevent her from going across the whole
world.
-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-
|Deep Sea Research Center|
-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-
The Deep Sea Research Center is located in a far, far, remote area. To
reach it, go to the very bottom left corner of the map. It's around
there.
I would prepare before coming here. I recommend you have powerful limit
breaks (the Lion Heart would be just perfect!), maybe degenerator, and
lots of high stats. The level down ability might help also.
Just as you enter the room, there will be a glowing core. If you
noticed, every step you take probably leads into a battle. Why? If you
walk when the core is lit, you will probably enter a battle before you
can say 'HEY!'. Wait till the core is not lit, then walk toward the
front of it. When you get here, you'll be given some options.
So you wish to challenge me...
> It's not our will to fight
Pick the one and only option here. You'll be engaged in battle with a
dreaded Ruby Dragon. Ruby Dragons are my worst nightmare; the only
thing I find more scary than this is the Ultima and Omega Weapons. If
the dragon starts the battle off with a 'Breath' attack, you're pretty
much finished. That attack does about 9700 damage to all my characters!
My strategy to defeat these bastards from hell is to have initiative on
somebody with the level down ability. As soon as the battle starts,
cast the ability on the enemy, and they'll be drastically weaker
(especially if your characters are at higher levels). Keep doing this
till the dragon can literally do only 2-3 digit damage. Finish it off
then. Also, you can give Quistis initiative, and also have her HP as
_LOW_ as possible. When the battle starts, pray that her limit will be
available. If the dragon does and attack like breath or meteor, you are
probably finished (but NEVER give up!!). Get her limit up as quick as
possible, and use degenerate to implode the dragon.
After the first battle, you'll be given another choice:
Begging me for mercy?
> Yeah...there's nothing I can do
> Never
Choose never, and you'll fight ANOTHER (!) Ruby Dragon (don't you love
how hard Square makes their games?!). But...this time, you're
disabled...the battle starts off as a back attack! I find that VERY
often, the dragon also starts off his attacks with Breath. Just try to
use the strategies above and hopefully you'll win.
Damned imbeciles. Why do you wish to fight?
> For the sake of protecting something
> None of your imbeciles
>
Select the secret third option hidden below the 2 listings. Now, you'll
fight Bahamut.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
BOSS BATTLE: HP:
Bahamut 10,800 - 90000
Draw: Flare, Curaga, Full-Life, Dispel
Attacks: Normal, Mega Flare, Various other magics
Weakness: None
Status Weakness: Blind(50%), Slow(90%)
Strong Against: Poison(50% damage); Wind, Earth(No damage)
He isn't the easiest boss, but he ain't the hardest either. To start
with an advantage, use Haste on yourself and cast Doomtrain on him. If
you don't have Doomtrain, cast Meltdown, Slow and Blind on him. Also,
cast Protect and Shell on yourselves to protect against some of his
more deadly attacks.
You're at a real advantage since you can draw curative magic from him.
Because of this, have at least one or two characters have the draw
skill. Basically, pound on him with G.F., limits, and high level magic.
Limits are real nice (and Squall has a different animation for
Renzokuken on Bahamut and other certain bosses). If blinded, his
options are very limited. The only thing you'll have to worry about is
his Mega Flare attack. It can do 4000+ damage to you, so I would
recommend keeping your HP at about 6000 during the whole battle. If
anyone gets finished off, draw cast Full-Life, and if anybody falls
below the 4000 mark, draw cast curaga. He shouldn't last too long.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
By now, I hope you only have 1 more G.F. to get...Eden.
After the battle, the core will have exploded. Go back to the Ragnarok,
and enter it's conference room. Also, talk to all of your characters.
After this, go back to the center. There should be a way down now.
The way I did this, is:
On the fist floor, use 4 units to go to floor 2. After this, use 1 unit
to go to floor 3. Repeat this till you're at floor 6. After this,
inspect the machinery, and _LET ZELL HANDLE IT_. If you don't you will
not be able to fight Ultima Weapon.
Go down. Make sure you save before going. On each floor, you'll fight
3-5 groups of a certain type of enemy. First, you'll fight TriFaces.
After this, you'll fight imps and grendels. After this, you'll fight
Behemoths. After this, Ruby Dragons. Finally, you'll fight 2 Iron
Giants (!) at once. After all this crap, you'll finally be at the
bottom.
PLEASE NOTE: You cannot go back up to save/heal or else you'll be
starting over.
Once at the bottom, use the Move-Find ability to find a save point.
Save, then use your remaining ten units of steam to activate the final
controls. After this, you'll engage in battle with Ultima Weapon.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
BOSS BATTLE: HP:
Ultima Weapon 51000-160000
Draw: Regen, Dispel, Ultima, Eden
Weakness: NONE
Status Weakness: NONE
Strong Against: NONE
All I can say is that he's not easy. First thing you should do in
battle is to draw Eden. After this, you'll want to cast meltdown on him
and also Aura on yourself.
If you can pull it off, try using Lion Heart (limit break). If you can
do it, it will most likely destroy the weapon. Otherwise, pound it with
limits and G.F. Watch out! His light pillar attack can kick one of your
guys out; it does 9999 damage. Revive with Full-Life. It might help to
cast haste on everybody. Well, that's about all the strategy I can give
you, GOOD LUCK!!

|Cactuar Island|
-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-
Cactuar island is a small desert island just east of the Kashkabald
Desert. It contains the ever popular cactuar - little cacti who have
made previous appearances in other FF games.
In this game, Cactuars are hard to hit, as normal, but in addition they
run almost immediately in battle also. But, they give an amazing 20 AP
each! This is probably where you would want to come to get your skills
learned.
What I do is I put initiative on Zell and have his HP really low. After
this, I use his limit, and do a finishing blow which hits all the
enemies. Also, you can attack with Squall or Selphie with their best
weapons; they have 255% hit rates.
The special part about this island is that you might see a little
Cactuar head that pops out of the desert at random areas. If you run
into it (not with Ragnarok) than you will fight the giant cactuar,
another G.F.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
BOSS BATTLE: HP:
Jumbo Cactuar 6000-600000
Draw: Meltdown, Demi, Tornado
Weakness: Water
Status Weakness: Slow(50%)
Strong Against: NONE
A really huge cactuar. I thought this was a pretty easy battle. My tip
to you is to fight this cactuar at a low a level as you can, since at
level 100 he'll have over half a million HP. Basically, what you want
to do is just constantly pound with limit breaks and G.F. (specifically
Leviathan). Also, the Renzokuken has a different animation for the
cactuar, and I suggest that you see it. He has a lot of HP, but the
only attack that you should worry about is the 10000 needles attack, as
that causes instant death to a character. If it is cast, then I would
revive him.
BIG NOTE: Toward the end of the battle, Jumbo Cactuar will start
'hesitating'(you'll be given a message). This is your cue to start
throwing major cans of whoop ass on the cactuar, because that's a sign
that this thing is about to run away. Use limits and Leviathan to
quickly finish it off.

|Omega Weapon|
-+-+-+-+-+-+-
This can only be described as hell itself. The big bad monster from FF5
is back, and he's stronger than ever. I have not quite yet defeated him
yet (I had to restart my game due to a little lack of items and spells)
but other strategies can be given at the Gamefaqs website. If anybody
has a strategy to defeat him without using Card Mod, then tell me! I'll
be updating this section A.S.A.P.
BTW: For you cheap people out there, if you feel like having an instant
win, I've heard the 'The End'(Selphie's strongest limit) works on
Omega! If you feel like doing it the cheap way, than use this tactic.
But remember, the truly good players don't use ways like this to defeat
the big bosses.

|Getting the G.F.|
-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-
This is where I will explain how to get each G.F.. I will use their
DEFAULT NAMES throughout the faq.
G.F. LIST
- Quezacotl - Brothers - Pandemona - Bahamut
- Shiva - Diablos - Alexander - Cactuar
- Ifrit - Carbuncle - Cerberus - Tonberry
- Siren - Leviathan - Doomtrain - Eden
SEMI-G.F. List
- Phoenix Use a phoenix pinion during battle
- Mini Mog Learn ability with Mog's Amulet
- Chocobo Use a Gysahl Green
- Odin Find at the Centra Ruins (see CENTRA RUINS in the
SIDE QUESTS section)
- Gilgamesh Receive if you have Odin when you fight Seifer on
Lunatic Pandora
THE G.F. I _ABSOLUTELY_ RECOMMEND YOU TO GET AND WHY, ALTHOUGH I HOPE
YOU GET ALL OF THEM
- Carbuncle It's reflect casting abilities will help
tremendously in some battles.
- Cerberus Double and Triple - All in one...need I say
more?
- Doomtrain Probably the best G.F. in the game, very
high HP and casts almost EVERY status
ailment on all enemies with high success.
- Eden The most damaging G.F. in the game, the
only
summon in all of FF history that can
inflict
5 (yes, FIVE) digit damage.
(Note: If you want me to be proud, beat
Ultima Weapon without cheating [EX. LION
HEART]!!!)

|Getting the G.F.|
-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-
- Quezacotl
Access the study panel in the classroom on Balamb garden. Check the
tutorial to receive the G.F.
- Shiva
Same as above
- Ifrit
It's the first boss, found in the fire cavern. If your reading this,
you most likely got him already, but oh hell, here ya go.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
BOSS BATTLE: HP:
Ifrit 1068
----------------------------------------------
LV |Str |Vit |Mag |Spr |Spd |Eva | Scan Statistics:
---------------------------------------------- Fire GF; uses fire
6 37 44 9 183 3 0 | magic. It's a strong
---------------------------------------------- opponent but, as it
is a part of Garden's
exam, not impossible
to defeat.
Draw: Fire, Cure, Scan
Weakness: Ice (x2 damage)
Status weakness: NONE
Strong against: Fire (absorbs)
It's really not that hard. Just make sure you have some GF junctioned,
and use Shiva, Quezacotl, and Ice magic. If your trying to get the
highest initial SeeD ranking, then I suggest that you get him to low HP
(so that you could kill him with one _ATTACK_) and wait till about 20
seconds are left. Then you attack him, and the battle should finish
with less than 7 secs left.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
-
- Siren
Draw her from Elvoret on top of the Dollet Communications Tower.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
BOSS BATTLE: HP:
Elvoret 1563 - 3523
----------------------------------------------
LV |Str |Vit |Mag |Spr |Spd |Eva | Scan Statistics:
---------------------------------------------- A monster that lives
1 17 2 10 127 8 0 | in the abandoned
10 27 4 27 130 10 1 | Dollet Communications
11 28 4 28 130 10 1 | tower. No one knows
---------------------------------------------- where it came from.
Draw: Thunder, Cure, Double, Siren
Weakness: NONE
Status Weakness: Blind (60%), Drain (100%)
Strong Against: Earth (misses), Poison (no damage)
Of course, what you want to do first is draw Siren. The way to defeat
this monster is just pound away with your strongest G.F. Eventually, he
should be easily defeated. If he does the attack that hits all your
characters for about 200-300 damage, then draw cast cure on your
characters.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
-
- Brothers
They're located at the Tomb of the Unknown King.
Draw: Shell, Protect, Berserk, Life
Weakness: Poison(x2 damage), Wind(x2 damage).
Status Weakness: Drain (100%)
Strong Against: Earth (absorbs)
This is a pretty easy battle. Just cast all of your G.F. once or twice
in a row, and he will be quickly defeated. BTW - if you have the
chance, stock up on his magic!
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
After this, you should go back one, go right, left, right, left, right,
up. Here, activate the floodgate controls. Then, go back one, go right,
left, right, left, right, up. Here, activate the drawbridge. Now, go
back one, right, left, straight, left, straight. Here, you'll fight
both of the brothers.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
BOSS BATTLE HP:
Sacred 855-36375
Draw: Shell, Protect, Beserk, Double
Weakness: Poison (x2 Damage), Wind(x2 damage)
Status Weakness: Drain(100%)
Strong Against: Earth (no damage)
Twice the G.F., twice the challenge. This is not a very easy, nor very
hard battle. Think...first of all, if you scan Minotaur, it says that
it will be healed as long as its feet are _on the ground_ so, guess
what will prevent his feet from touching the ground? Cast float on him
and Sacred if this healing is starting to pester you. Basically,
casting protect/shell on your characters will be a big help in the
beginning of the battle. Your strongest G.F. and Tornado (draw from
Thrustaevis outside, or mug windmills and convert them into tornadoes)
are effective enough to attack them with. Eventually, the brothers will
fall. My only caution is Minotaur's Mad Cow Special, which will hurt
you pretty bad. Cast cura or curaga on your characters to recover from
the attack.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
- Diablos
If you talk to Cid before going on to the Timber mission, he'll give
magic lamp. If you read its description, it says 'to save before you
use it!'. Well, save before you do, and then use it to enter battle
with Diablos.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
BOSS BATTLE: HP:
Diablos 1600-80800
As you can see, it would not be a very smart idea to fight him at later
levels, as his statistics are at par with Ultima and even Omega weapon.
I would fight him at a VERY low level, around 10-20 if possible. Even
then, this is still a pretty hard level.
Diablos attack is very high. So, to counter this, cast blind. Also,
cast slow on him. There is a catch...he is susceptible to Gravity
attacks; just draw cast Demi on him until you can easily defeat him
with other attacks.
Diablos attacks with Gravija, which knocks out 3/4 of your character's
HP. At this point, you can either heal yourselves or blast away with
limits. I would heal, and use the Demi strategy, but what you do is up
to you. Good luck!
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
- Carbuncle
Draw it from the Iguions (Deling City, First Disc).
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
BOSS BATTLE: HP:
Iguion (x2) 127-1747
----------------------------------------------
LV |Str |Vit |Mag |Spr |Spd |Eva | Scan Statistics:
---------------------------------------------- A mutation of a
1 14 52 10 10 3 0 | hallway decoration.
10 21 70 17 15 6 0 | Uses Petrify attacks.
19 28 88 23 19 8 1 | Someone has given it
---------------------------------------------- the reflect power.
A really easy battle; draw Carbuncle, then try and stock up on some of
it's magic. It doesn't really have attacks you need to worry about; if
your HP gets too low, then draw cast cure to heal yourselves. After
your finished with your business, use your G.F. to kill them almost
immediately.
