Control= Earlier this evening, armed members of the terrorist organization
"Free Europe" seized control of the Belgian embassy in London. Your mission
is to retake the embassy with minimal civilian losses.
Command= John Clark= Looks like we've got our first real job. I don't have to
tell you that we're going under the microscope on this one. If we blow it the
first time out, they may just shut us down.
Orders= The Belgian ambassador is hiding in an office on the seccond floor
and has so far avoided capture by the terrorist. Other embassy workers may
also be trapped inside. Surveillance indicates terrorists on all three floors
of the complex.
Control= Hutu rebels have captured a research outpost in the Congo Run by the
Horizon Corporation. Your mission is to rescue the American and European
scientists without alerting the main body of the rebel force to your
presence.
Command= John Clark= Horizon is the darling of the Biotech Industry. I'll let
their CEO John Brightling fill you in on their African operation. The leader
of their research team is a VIP named Catherine Winston. If you get anyone
out, make sure it's her.
Orders= The hostages are being held in an abandoned colonial villa. Although
a large rebel camp is nearby, observers report that few enemy troops are
actually in the building.
Objectives= 1. Rescue Dr. Winston
Advisor= John Brightling= We're not in Africa to turn a profit. We're there
to see if we can come up with a cure for the epidemic that's been decimating
West Africa's cattle population. You have to understand:Horizon doesn't exist
to make money. Horizon exist to make a better future.
Control= An organization calling itself "the Phoenix Group" has gained
control of a petromech drilling rag in the north sea. They've taken the crew
hostage and mined the rig. Your mission is to disarm all explosive devices
and neutralize the aggressors.
Command= John Clark= Be sure to read your dossier on The Phoenix Group.
These guys are serious fanatics. Apparently their agenda calls for the
complete destruction of modern society. They see themselves rising from the
ashes to build some sort of environmentalist Utopia. Don't underestimate
them.
Orders= The two-level main structure contains machine rooms and the crew's
quarters. Surveillance indicates that bombs may be located both in the main
structure and on the top deck. The location of the triggering device is not
known.
Control= American and Brazilian nationals have been kidnapped from a Horizon
construction site in the Amazon rainforest. They are being held nearby at the
stronghold of one Ramon Calderon, a known drug trafficker. Your mission is to
terminate Calderon's operation with minimum civilian losses.
Command= John Clark= Dr. Lang is the U.S. Prsidential Science Advisor. She
and Mr. Brightling can fill you in on the details of the Rainforest 200
Project. What we've got is a drug lord who doesn't like having a government
installation in his backyard, and we've been asked to shut him down.
Orders= Intelligence reports that Calderon's stronghold is well guarded. Men
armed with automatic weapons patrol both inside and outside the house. The
workers are being held in the basement, and Calderon's bedroom is located on
the second floor.
Objectives= 1. Rescue hostages
Advisor= John Brightling= Most of the trouble has been at the site of the
ark. The ark is an airtight, self-contained biosphere--the earth in
miniature. If we can learn to live in an ecosystem the size of a city block,
maybe we can do a better job with the rest of the planet.
Second Advisor= Anne Lang= The Rainforest 2000 Project partners corporation
with conservationists to encourage earth-friendly development in the Amazon.
Horizon has commited millions of dollars to build several state-of-the-art
research stations in the rainforest to hunt for new pharmaceuticals.
3.5. OPERATION:LONE FOX
-NUCLEAR MISSILE SILO, EASTERN EUROPE-
-AUGUST 10TH-
Control= A breakway military faction in Kazakhtan has seized of a nuclear
missile silo in the former Soviet Republic. They are threatening to destroy
the facility with explsives, triggering a major release of radioactive
material. Your mission is to retake the silo and disarm the bombs.
Command= John Clark= The Kazakh military is falling apart. The soldier who've
taken over the silo were part of its garrison. Apparently things are pretty
desperate over there.
Orders= Time is of the essence. Intelligence reports that the primary
countdown sequence has already been activated. The central silo complex is
patrolled by soldiers and the launch bays are protected by optical trip
wires. If you are detected, the terrorists will accelerate their countdown.
Control= Members of a radical neo-marxist group have taken several families
hostage at the Worldpark Amusement Center in Spain. Your mission is to rescue
them and meutralize the terrorists.
Command= John Clark= Park security is handled by a private company called
Global Security. They're also handling security at the summer games in Sydney
next month so they want to keep publicity about this Worldpark incident to a
minimum. We go in, we get the kids, we get out.
Orders= Park security has sealed off the area around the ride. Access to the
building is provided through both a main enterance and a back alley. The
public areas of the attraction are connected together by a system of
maintenance passages used by the Worldpark staff.
Objectives= 1. Rescue all hostages
3.7. OPERATION:BLUE SKY
-DAM IN EASTERN EUROPE-
-SEPTEMBER 5TH-
Control= The Phoenix Group has seized a dam on the border between Hungary and
Slovakia and is threathening to destroy it. One of the terrorists is willing
to turn informant in exchange for his life. Your mission is to infiltrate the
dam, disarm the explosives, and bring this informant out alive.
Command= John Clark= The informant is a college kid named Roland Kunst who's
finally figured out he's in over his head. Apparently Phoenix may have gotten
their hands on some sort of "super-germ". Because of Dr. Winston's experience
with dangerous biological agents, I've asked her to join us as an adviser.
Orders= Surveillance indicates that explosive devices have been placed deep
inside the dam. If the terrorists are alerted to the team's presence they
will detonate the devices using triggers scattered throughout the area. The
last communication from Kunst indicates that he is hiding in the upper levels
of the dam.
Objectives= 1. Rescue Roland Kunst
Advisor= Catherine Winston= This informant of John's says he knows about a
plan to release a biological agent into the general population. That's very
scary. A well-orchestrated release of a bug like that in an urban area could
kill thousand ... maybe millions.
3.8. OPERATION:FIRE WALK
-RESEARCH CENTER, IDAHO-
-SEPTEMBER 10TH-
Control= According to the information provided by our informant, the Phoenix
Group is running a secret biological warfare laboratory in the State of Idaho
in the Western United States. Your mission is to gain control of this
facility and to prevent the scientists escaping with the infectious agents.
Command= John Clark= Our interragators have finished with Mr. Kunst. During
questioning he revealed that a splinter group has set up a secret lab a few
miles outside Twin Falls. God only know's what they're doing there.
Orders= Phoenix members carrying virus samples may try to escape once you
enter the compound. If anyone is allowed to leave the compound you will have
failed in your mission.
Objectives= 1. Prevent escapes of Phoenix personnel
Advisor= Catherine Winston= You'll need biohazard suits. The lab is a level 4
facility which means any agent kept there is probably airborne, highly
contagious, and very, very deadly. If the integrity of one of your suits is
compromised in any way then that's it _ game over.
Second Advisor= Anne Lang= I must urge coution. The only evidence we have
that anything illegal is going on is the word of these criminals. If any
innocent civilians is injured in this _ preciptous raid, I'm afraid the White
House will be forced to disavow all knowledge of your actions.
3.9. OPERATION:WINTER HAWK
-AIRSTRIP IN IDAHO, USA-
-SEPTEMBER 10TH-
Control= The Ringleaders of the Phoenix Group's Idaho operation have fled to
a nearby airstrip. Your mission is to intercept them before they can escape.
Command= John Clark= We didn't move quickly enough - the leaders have already
flown the coop. You've got to catch them at the airstrip.
Orders= The leaders of the Phoenix Group are belived to be carrying dangerous
biological agents, ans will likely attempt to leave the area by airplane. You
could save time by approaching the airstrip from behind the control tower.
Objectives= 1. Prevent Ringleader escaping
Advisor= Catherine Winston= My God. I was watching the video feed. They were
experimenting on people. It looks like 'they've taken all the biological
samples with them. You have to stop them.
Second Advisor= Anne Lang= I knew this would happen. We've got a potential
bloodbath on our hands. I'll manage the spin with the White House, but
please, please, try not to make matters worse. Good Lord. If this gets out
the press will eat us alive.
3.10. OPERATION:RED WOLF
-EUROPEAN MINT, BRUSSELS-
-SEPTEMBER 13TH-
Control= Last night members of the "Free Europe"terrorist organization raided
a celebration in Brussels honoring the first production run of the new
European Union currency. Your mission is to rescue the dignitaries who have
been taken hostage.
Command= John Clark= Dr. Winston is in the lab analyzing the virus samples
you discovered. We've got a lot of unanswered questions:What is the Phoenix
planning? Where did they get the virus in the first place? Who put the
funding to build that lab complex? We need answers, and fast.
Orders= Belgian authorities have cordoned off the entire area. Several
dignitaries are being held hostage in the mint's vault. Full blueprints of
the building have been obtained.
Objectives= Rescue dignitaries
Advisor= Catherine Winston= I've run some preliminary tests and the results
aren't good. It resembles Ebola Bharma, the virus I was studying in Africa -
but somehow it's managed to jump the species boundary and attack humans. If
thia bug were released into the general population we'd have a pandemic -
hundreds of millions dead.
Control= The Phoenix Group has kidnapped Dr. Winston from her hotel. They've
been tracked to the freighter Orca's Smile anchored in Southampton harbor.
The terrorists have threatened to blow it up if a boarding attempt is made.
Your mission is to rescue Dr. Winston.
Command= John Clark= Phoenix found out that Catherine was working for us.
It's imperative that you bring her back alive. Before her disappearance she
was on the verge of cracking this whole thing wide open.
Orders= Surveillance indicates that Dr. Winston is being held in the engine
room. Given the limited time available, no effort should be made to disarm
the explosives. The leader of the group has barricaded himself in the bow of
the ship and will trigger the bombs if he learns of your presence.
Objectives= 1. Recue Dr. Winston
3.12. OPERATION:BLACK STAR
-BRIGHTLING'S PENTOUSE, HONG KONG-
-SEPTEMBER 29TH-
Control= Rainbow has uncovered information that links Phoenix to John
Brightling and Horizon Corporation. Your mission is to infiltrate John
Brightling's Hong Kong apartment, tap into his computer system, and extract
all information about the activities of the Phoenix Group.
Command= John Clark= Before she was kidnapped, Dr. Winston found information
linking John Brightling to the virus samples we recovered in Idaho. That
would explain where their funding was coming from. With luck the information
in Brightling's computer will tell us what their plans are.
Orders= An array of hi-tech surveillance are deployed to protect Brightling's
penthouse. If you are detected by any of his guards, the operation will be a
failure.
Advisor= Catherine Winston= I've run the tests a dozen times, but the results
are always the same. The bug doesn't just resemble Ebola Brahma, it is Ebola
Brahma. It's a modified version of my cattle virus they're using. Phoenix
must have gotten it from Brightling himself.
Second Advisor= Anne Lang= While I have the highest respect for Dr. Winston,
I find this scenario of yours highly implausible. John Brightling is one of
the most respected businessmen in the world. It's unthinkable that he would
be mixed up in a plot like this.
3.13. OPERATION:WILD ARROW
-ATHLETES' VILLAGE, SYDNEY-
-OCTOBER 1ST-
Control= John Brightling's computer files indicate that the Phoenix Group has
planted virus-release devices in the air circulation system in the Athletes'
Village in Sydney. Your mission is to penetrate security at the village and
disable these devices.
Command= John Clark= We have the locations of the devices, but we're running
out of time and we don't know who in security we can trust. We don't dare
evacuate the village - even that might be enough to trigger a release. That's
why we're sending you in covertly. However, we have obtained full blueprints
of the village complex so you should have no trouble finding tour way around.
Orders= Disarming the bombs is a two-stage process. The central computer must
be shut off first, and the individul bombs must be disabled within a 15- to
30- second window after. If the team's preseance is detected and the alarm is
raised, manual release of the virus will be occur.
Advisor= Catherine Winston= The closing ceremonies _ it's brilliant and
monstrous at the same time. An entire stadium full of people, most of them
boarding international flights within twelve hours of exposure - by the same
time the first symptoms manifest themselves a week later, Brahma will have
spread to every corner of the planet.
Control= John Brightling and the last remnants of the Phoenix Group have
barricated themselves in the Horizon Ark in Brazil. Your mission is to take
control of the ark, neutralizing any of the occupants who offer resistance.
Command= John Clark= Brightling's in there, hiding deep in some bunker.
There's no telling what he might do if we try to wait him down - kill
himselves, kill his followers, make an attempt to expose the Brazillian
troops to the virus. The decision's come down - we're ending this now.
Oreders= The Ark consists of three habitat domes and an inner survival bunker
where Brightling is believed to be hiding. The use of biosuits is highly
recommended for this mission.

4. CHARACTER
=============================================================================
1. John Clark= Commander of Rainbow Counter-terrorism Team. American. No
information available on date or place of birth, education, or military
experiance. Since 1970 has worked for American Central Intelligence
Agency(CIA). Details of all CIA operations are sealed. Has a wife, Sandra,
and two daughters, Maggie and Patricia.
2. John Brightling= Founder and CEO of Horizon Corporation. One of the
world's leading experts in recombinant DNA technology. Known in the industry
for his unorthodox management style and strong political views. Closely
involved with a number of environmental issues.
3. Catherine Winston= Research scientist employed by Horizon Corporation.
Early work centered on development of bioengineered "Cocktails" for the
treatment of drug-resistant strains of Tubercolosis. Currently, her primary
research focus is on isolating the cause of the recent epidemic that has
struck the African cattle population.
4. Anne Lang= United States Presidential Science Advisor. A career bureucrat.
She has powerful contacts in both the government and the environmental lobby,
and has a reputation for being a stickler for protocol.
5. Ramon Calderon= Colombian drug lord. Former member of Cali Drug Cartel,
now believed to be living in exile in the Brazilian countryside. Earned the
nickname "Rotula"(literally, "Kneecap") for the brutal punishments he exacted
on his enemies.
6. Roland Kunst= Dutch national believed to be a member of the Phoenix Group.
Born in Eindhoven, Netherlands. Attended University of Amsterdam, 1997-1999.
Active with the student branch of De Groenen, the Dutch Green Party, before
dropping out of school in October in 1999.
1. Free Europe= British terrorist organization opposed to the integration of
The United Kingdom into the European Union. According to the documents
recovered by the police, their agenda calls for the deportation of all
immigrants of non-European ancestry and a national policy of strict economic
and cultural isolationism.
2. Rainbow= Multinational special-operations taskforce operating under NATO
supervision. Rainbow was formed in 1999 to combat the rise of terrorist "Free
Agents"following the collapse of the former Soviet Union. Operatives are
drawn from the world's leading counter-terrorism organizations.
3. Horizon Corporation= American biotechnology firm. Horizon manufactures
nine products, including the anti-cancer drug Proacteron and the hemezyme
line of synthetic antibodies. The company is a participant in the Human
Genome Project and the Rainforest 2000 initiative.
4. Phoenix Group= Terrorist organization operating in Europe and North
America Their name alludes to their belief that a new anarchist state will
arise from the ashes after the collapse of industrialized society.
5. Petromech Corporation= Multinational oil company. Petromech is believed to
now control upwards of 30% of the world's known crude oil reserves. The
company recently has drawn heavy fire from environmentalists for a series of
accidents. The most prominent of these was the wreck of the Petromech tanker
Edmund Banks in 1994 off the shores of the Orkney Islands.
6. Rainforest 2000 Project= U.S. initiative to encourage private investment
in the Amazon Basin. Since its inception in 1997, the program has directed
millions of dollars in tax cuts and other incentives to American companies
whose Brazilian operations meet a stringent set of environmentally friendly
guidelines.
7. Global Security= International security firm. With offices in more than 20
countries and over 40,000 employees worldwide, Global is one of the world's
largest private providers of security services. They recently made headlines
when the Australian Government chose Global to handle security at the 2000
Summer Games in Sydney.
8. Force 10-18= German neo-marxist group. Force 10-18 spun out of the German
left-wing terrorist movement of the 1970's. They take their name from "death
night", the night in 1977 when Andreas Baader and other members of the Red
Army Faction commited suicide in their prison cells.
1. European Union= The European Union consist of 15 countries: Austria,
Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy,
Luxembourg, The Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Sweden and The United Kingdom.
It is based on a series of treaties drawn up between the major European
powers in the years following World War II.
2. Hutu Rebels= The Hutus and the Tutsis are two rival central African ethnic
groups. Although tension has existed between them for generations, the latest
rounds of violence began in 1999 when an epidemic decimated the local cattle
population.
3. Horizon Ark= Brazilian research station run by Horizon Corporation. An
airtight collection of buildings used to conduct experiments in how
environments regulate themselves. Air, water, and waste products are all
recycled, in theory allowing humans to live indefinitely inside the compound
with no contact with the external world.
4. Worldpark= European amusement park located on 765 acres outside Barcelona,
Spain. Owned and operated by the WPA Consortium, a group of investors from
Saudi Arabia, Oman and Qatar. Worldpark opened its gates in 1996 and has
drawn record crowds ever since. Park security is provided by Global Security.
5. Esztergom Dam= Located on the Danube River between Slovakia and Hungary,
the Esztergom Dam is part of the Gabcikovo-Nagymaros barrage system designed
to provide flood control and hydroelectric power to both countries. The dam
has been the target of protests by environmentalists since 1984.
6. Biohazard Levels= Laboratory protocols group all biological hazards into
four categories. The levels are designated in ascending order by degree of
protection required for personnel working with that agent. Level 4 agent pose
a high risk of lethal disease through air-borne transmission.
7. Ebola Brahma= A member of the family of RNA Viruses known as Filoviruses.
Discovered in 1999 by Dr. Catherine Winston in the cattle population of West
Africa. A level 4 biohazard, Ebola Brahma causes death in 97% of cases. Not
believed to be transmittable to humans.
8.The Euro= Europe's new common curency, scheduled to replace most National
currencies by July 1, 2002. The European banking industry is currently in the
process of converting to use of the Euro internally and production of Euro
banknotes is scheduled to begin shortly.
9. The Orca's Smile= The Orca's Smile was built in 1953 for Nor-star Ltd.
operated her for forty years as a frightener. In 1993 she was purchased by
the Capricon Corporation -- now believed to be a front for the Phoenix Group,
which has been using the Orca's Smile as a means of moving personnel and
equipment secretly throughout Europe.
10. Virus Aerosol Bomb= Biological hazard delivery mechanism. Reconstructed
from blueprints recovered by Rainbow from the computer files of the Horizon
Corporation. A single one of these devices could deliver enough of the Ebola
Brahma pathogen to infect several hundred thousand individuals.
1. Arnavisca, Santiago
Born in Málaga, Spain. Although the family's holdings were greatly reduced
under Franco's rule, the Arnaviscas still control large tracts of farmland
around Córdoba and the Guadalquivir river valley. The second youngest son in
a family of eight, his eldest brother is a deputy in the Andalucian
Parliament. Attended University of Seville, 1983-88. Joined the Guardia Civil
upon graduation. Served as a brigade commander 1994-96 in the Western
European Union (WEU) administration of Mostar in Bosnia where he was
instrumental in rebuilding the local police force. In 1997 recruited by the
Guardia Civil's counter-terrorism unit, the Unidad Especial de Intervención
(UEI) as part of their focus on the growing threat of terrorist action within
the European Union by former citizens of Yugoslavia.
Arnavisca has competed in shooting competitions since he was a child and is
an expert marksman. He speaks English, German and Italian fluently, as well
as his native Spanish, and can make himself understood in most other European
languages. Despite his aristocratic bearing, he is more comfortable acting as
a lieutenant and advisor than a team lead. Extremely tenacious in combat, he
has a reputation for maintaining an air of calm detachment no matter how
tense the situation.
2. Beckenbauer, Lars
Born on a farm near Chemnitz on the Czechoslovakian border in what was, at
the time, the German Democratic Republic (East Germany). Drafted into the
East Germany Army, 1970. Specialized in bomb disposal and demolitions.
Assigned to East German Border Patrol, 1971-76. Arrested by the GDR State
Security Service (Stasi) in 1976 under suspicion of involvement in several
high-profile defections. Released for lack of evidence and discharged from
army in 1977. Movements and activities from 1977-84 are unknown. The current
German government will neither confirm nor deny rumors that he was a member
of the 'Libellen', an underground group held responsible for several bombings
of East German governmental offices in and around Berlin in the summer of
1981. Resurfaced in 1985 when he was granted asylum by West Germany after a
risky crossing of the Baltic Sea in a small sailboat. Opened Pyrotechno GmbH,
a security consulting firm, in 1989. Since then has built his reputation as
Germany's leading expert on explosives and demolitions. Married, 1995. Two
children.
Beckenbauer had an encyclopedic knowledge of all types of explosive devices.
Years of working with bombs have made him extremely meticulous. He never
overlooks any detail of an operation and leaves nothing to chance. In his
relations with the rest of the team, he is liable to be somewhat cold and
distant, but only because he is so completely focused on his job that he
considers personal interactions between team members to be a dangerous
distraction.
3. Bogart, Daniel
Born in Keokuk, Iowa, USA. Father is a local deputy sheriff, mother a
homemaker. Two brothers. Attended University of Iowa on a track & field
scholarship, 1972-76. Graduated with honors with a degree in law enforcement.
Worked for three years as a patrolman in Keokuk police department. Hired in
1980 by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Member of FBI Hostage Rescue
Team 1987-97. Married since 1979. Wife and two teen-age children live in
Maine, USA.
Bogart is an excellent team lead. He has exceptional tactical skills and
situational awareness from his years with HRT. Extremely cool under fire, he
is also a crack shot, having won several marksmanship awards during his
tenure at the FBI. His low-key demeanor and laconic sense of humor have made
him a well-liked member of the Rainbow Six team.
4. Burke, Andrew
Born in Manchester, England. Whereabouts of father unknown. Mother is a
secretary at a plastics processing plant in Leeds. Three siblings, two
brothers and a sister. Joined Royal Marines in 1986. Two tours of duty with
British Special Air Service (SAS) , 1989-91 and 1996-1999. Awarded Military
Cross, 1998. Has taken part in SAS actions in twenty-two countries on four
continents. Further details of his service record are sealed.Unmarried.
Burke is a seasoned veteran of numerous covert operations. While not
reckless, he has a strong can-do attitude and unlimited confidence in his
abilities. As a leader he is decisive and demanding. He has a quick sense of
humor and is likely to keep his team relaxed by telling jokes before the
start of a mission. While he has some contact with his immediate family, he
considers the service to be his home.
5. Chavez, Domingo "Ding"
Born in Los Angeles, California. Joined U.S. Army, 1983. Served with the 7th
Infantry Division, 1984-87. Rose to rank of Staff Sergeant before being
recruited by the American Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) in 1987 for
narcotics interdiction operations in South America. Discharged 1988 and
became a full-time CIA employee the same year, working under John Clark.
Service records for the years 1989-99 are sealed. Earned B.S. Political
Science, George Mason University, 1995. M.A. International Relations from the
same institution 1999. Married.
Chavez is an excellent light infantry soldier with an exceptional grasp of
small unit tactics and close quarters battle. Although small in stature he is
powerfully built and agile, a formidable opponent with a wide range of
weapons and in hand-to-hand combat.
6. DuBarry, Alain
Born in Chantilly, France. Father is a manuscript curator at a local museum,
mother is a journalist. Four sisters and two brothers. Second oldest sister
is a prominent professor of mathematics at the University of Paris. Attended
the Ecole Supérieure d'Ingénieurs en Electrotechnique et Electronique (ESIEE)
in Paris, 1984-89. Graduated with a degree in electronics engineering and
computer science. Joined the Gendarmerie Nationale in 1990 as an officer in
their computer crime division. Instrumental in thwarting a 1994 attempt by a
group of Algerian nationals to bring down the French Minitel computer network
using a virus spread by telephone switching software. In 1996 he was recuited
by the Groupe d'intervention de la Gendarmerie Nationale (GIGN), France's
elite counter-terrorist unit, as a specialist in telephony and electronic
surveillance. Unmarried.
DuBarry is an expert on computers and computer nets as well as more
conventional forms of surveillance. Although his role in CT actions is
usually intelligence gathering and communications, as a veteran of GIGN's
extensive combat training he is fully qualified to participate in armed
operations. Introverted and thoughtful, and an excellent tactician, he often
makes connections that other team members miss. Off-duty he is an avid
amateur scuba diver and is an officer in the Confédération Mondiale des
Activités Subaquatiques (CMAS).
7. Filatov, Genedy
Born in Pskov, Pskovaya Oblast, Russian Federation. No information on family
available. Served in army of former Soviet Union, 1981-85, including tour of
duty in Afghanistan. Recruited by "Alfa" counter-terrorist group in 1987.
Operated in all major territories of the former Soviet Union and eastern
Europe. Resigned from "Alfa" in 1991 in response to that organization's
ambiguous response to the failed Soviet coup. Director of operations for
private security firm, 1991-96. Returned to "Alfa" during its 1997
restructuring under the Russian Federal Security Service. Married, no
children.
Filatov is a solid counter-terrorism operator. Although his training and
background are unorthodox by western standards, he has a wealth of real-world
experience from his years in the security forces of the former Soviet Union,
and numerous contacts across eastern Europe and Asia. His steady nerves and
methodical approach to any threat make him a particularly valuable asset in
combat situations. Team commanders should not be misled by his world-weary
manner; he is not a pessimist but a realist, and he prides himself on being
the voice of reason and conservatism in any debate.
8. Haider, Karl
Born in Graz, Austria. Father is a petroleum distributor, mother a homemaker.
Two siblings, a brother and a sister, both still in school. Joined the
regular Austrian army in 1992. Transferred to Gendarmerieeinsatzkommando
Cobra (GEK Cobra) in 1996. Trained with both Germany's GSG-9 and Israel's
Sayeret Mat'Kal. Participated in GEK Cobra raid on Deissenmayr GmbH
headquarters in Vienna in 1998 and was credited with single-handedly saving
the lives of seven hostages. Married 1999, no children.
In combat situations Karl is unstoppable. He is extremely aggressive and will
not hesitate to use whatever methods are necessary to complete his mission.
He is fanatical about protecting the lives of hostages and innocent
bystanders, even to the point of jeopardizing his own life. Off the job he is
soft-spoken and private, but has an iron determination.
9. Hanley, Timothy
Born in Margaret River, Australia. Father is a winery foreman, mother is a
homemaker. Two siblings, a brother and a sister. Attended Australian Defense
Force Academy in Canberra, 1983-87. Upon graduation was recruited into newly
formed 1st squadron of the Special Air Service Regiment (SASR) and remained
with this unit when it was reorganized into the Australian Tactical Assault
Group (TAG) shortly thereafter. His entire career has been with TAG with the
exception of one tour of duty with the Australian Intelligence Corp
(AustInt), 1993-96. Has lead counter-terrorist teams on three continents and
has cross-trained with both the U.S. "Delta Force" and British Special Air
Service. Unmarried. Hanley is a career CT officer. He is a veteran of dozens
of assaults and approaches even the most dangerous missions with the easy-
going good humor that has become his hallmark.
Off duty he is an experienced backpacker and mountaineer and has taken part
in amateur expeditions to many of the world's major peaks. He is in superb
physical condition and has demonstrated an ability to endure even the most
extreme physical hardship.
-Demolitions Kit= This kit speeds up both the placing and disarming of
explosives. It contains basic electrical diagnostic equipment along with the
essential mechanical tools needed to perform the job. Extra primer, detcord,
and a variety of adhesives complete the kit.
-Door Charges= Breaching charges are used to explosively remove doors for
rapid entry. Flashbangs do not need to be used in conjunction with a
breaching charge as they stun, wound, or even kill anyone nearby.
-Electronics Kit= This kit speeds up rewiring controllers for explosives
devices, infiltration of computer system, and related electrical and
electronic tasks. It contains a high precision multimeter, miniature power
supplies, a breadboard, and digital analyzer. A full complements of jumpers,
clips, and miscellaneous electrical parts rounds out the kit.
-Flashbangs= Capable of stunning observers with a combination bright flash
and loud report, flashbangs are commonly tossed into rooms to "prepare" rooms
prior to entry. The valueable seconds gained while potential hostiles recover
from the stun effects can mean the difference between life and death to a
tactical team. Also known as Distraction Device or Stun Grenedes.
-Frag Grenades= The M61 Fragmentation Grenade is the standard issue offensive
grenade used by infantry throughout the world. While its blast radius is
small, an overhand throw is still necessary to safely clear the blast radius
in the open.
-Heartbeat Sensor= The Heartbeat Sensor is capable of tracking a human
heartbeat even through thick layers of concrete. It works by detecting the
characteristic ultra-low-frequency electric field given off by a beating
heart. The Heartbeat Sensor scans a small sphere around the user.
-Lockpick Kit= This kit speeds the picking of locks. Its primary component is
a highly sophisticated auto-pick capable of opening most mechanical locks in
a few seconds. Electrical keycard or swipe locks are handled using a
classified system containing presets for all major keycard variations.
-Primary Mags= Extra ammo for primary weapon.
-Secondary Mags= Extra ammo for secondary weapon.
8.4. UNIFORM
-Urban Breach= This heavy street camo uniform consists of level III body
armor extending to the groin. This is the preferred kit of demolitions
experts as the faceplate on the kevlar helmet offers excellent protectionfrom
flying debris. This uniform is very useful on urban assignment and offers
protection against most small arms fire except those from high powered
rifles.
-Urban Medium= Consisting primarily of a level II waist-length tactical vest
and a kevlar helmet capable of stopping high power pistol rounds. This is
Rainbow's alternative urban assault gear. It is rounded out with soft-soled
rubber boots, nomex balaclava and nomex/kevlar gloves.
-Urban Light= This street camo uniform consists of a lightweight level IIA
tactical vest, soft-soled rubber boots, nomex balaclava and nomex/kevlar
gloves. This uniform is mainly used by recon specialists, it offers more
stealth but only protects against low powered pistol fire.
-Camo Heavy= This bulky jungle camo uniform is made of level III body armor,
camo boots and nomex/kevlar gloves. It is slightly hotter and heavier than
the other jungle camo uniforms but has a lot more protection and is capable
of stopping most small arms fire except those from the higher powered rifles.
-Camo Medium= This jungle camo uniform consists of a level II waist-length
tactical vest capable of stopping up to 40. caliber pistol rounds and 9mm
small arms fire. This is Rainbow's standard jungle gear and also includes
jungle boots, nomex balaclava and nomex/kevlar gloves. Usually used in
Central, South American and African operations.
-Camo Light= This uniform is used for jungle operations where high stealth is
needed. This jungle camo uniform consists of a lightweight level IIA tactical
vest(which will stop some low-powered pistol fire), lightweight form fitting
jungle boots, nomex balaclava and nomex/kevlar gloves.
-Black Heavy= This bulky black uniform consists of level III body armor
extending to the groin and is capable of stopping all but the most high-
powered of rifle rounds. This is the preferred uniform of demolitions experts
as the faceplate on the kevlar helmet offers excellent protection from flying
debris. This version is especially suited for nighttime operations.
-Black Medium= This black uniform is made of a level II waist-length tactical
vest and a kevlar helmet, soft-soled rubber boots, nomex balaclava and
nomex/kevlar gloves.This is Rainbow's standard night time assault gear. The
vest is capable of stopping most pistol fire and some submachine gun fire as
well.
-Black Light= This black lightweight unifore is perfect for night time
missions and recon specialists. It consists of a lightweight level IIA
tactical vest capable of stopping low-powered pistol roundsand is rounded out
with the standard soft-soled rubber boots, nomex balaclava and nomex/kevlar
gloves.
-Wood Heavy= This bulky woodland camo uniform is made of level III body
armor, camo boots and nomex/kevlar gloves. It is a little hotter and heavier
than the other woodland camo uniforms but has a lot more protection and is
capable of stopping most small arms fire except those from the higher powered
rifles. The woodland uniforms are a personal favorite of Santiago Arnavisca.
-Wood Medium= This woodland camo uniform consists of a level II waist-length
tactical vest capable of stopping up to 40. caliber pistol rounds and 9mm
