This guide was not designed as something you can turn to for every single
problem you may have in SSX. However, this guide provides a reference to
every grab, and a list of amazing tricks. Also, it's a testament to the
work the developers put in. Look at all of the different in-depth
sections.
!!!!!I am searching somebody to transcribe the Trick Books to e-mail (no
attachments) and send it my way. I will add their name to the by line at
the top!!!!!

Games I Might Consider Writing FAQs For If Enough People Asked Me
Characters
There are 8 characters in the game. They are all equal, basically, though
Jurgen has kind of a bum deal. Mac is probably the strongest trick rider,
Hiro the best speed rider, Jurgen the best rider for the few who
specialize in pushing, and Elise the best turner. Zoe has probably the
best overall stats, with Moby and Mac close. I prefer using Mac for
everything, but that's just me. They have several boards each.
Mac:A FREESTYLE rider with stylish flare and the quiet confidence of
riders twice his age.
(I'll guess I didn't add to this as I said, but this is stuff you could
see just as easily your self, so sit tight...maybe someday)
Character Stat Work
I was bored and decided to do some math with character stats. Oddly enough,
one of my least favorite characters to ride as turned out superior in both
my formulas (averaged stats and balanced effectiveness). Elise is apparently
the strongest overall rider, but don't take my word for it. See the work.
If anybody has any other rider strength formulas that turn out other bizarre
results, send them in and I'll post them. Try to get Jurgen in first using
a reasonable formula.
If you take the riders and average their stats together, you'll find varying
results.
I have devised a ranking myself for the better the riders. The formula
is revolves around the riders number in ranking. For instance, (stability)
means that you'd do the operation to stability. Lower numbers are better.
The formula is the following:
(stability)+2(tricks)+(edging)+2(speed)=balanced effectiveness
Every rider has 30 different grabs, including tweak variations. The button
combinations are as seen at the sides. Most riders have similar tricks.
Tweaking is done with the square button.
Riders have a different set of tricks for alpine boards. All of these
tricks are pretty standard to all riders except for Elise's Iguana and
Iguana KABOB. I'm not sure why this is, but every other rider has the same
tricks for all button combinations. Note that not all riders have alpine
boards.
This is a guide to all of the toughest tricks in the game that me and my
group have discovered. Every single one these tricks is a challenge to
pull. It is nearly impossible to get an 1800 trick without one of the
largest jumps in the game (I used the first major jump in Pipe Dream) and
an incredible rider (I used a mastered Mac on his Interrupting Pirate).
Also, you must wind up your tricks (press the directions you wish to spin
in advance to make the spin faster). I have yet to discover the specifics
on how to do any of these tricks. Anybody with the details on how to do
any of the following tricks here should submit them to me. Also, anyone
who's discovered a brand new trick that has yet to be listed here should
submit them. This is probably not a complete list, but it's as close as I
can get on my own. Every single one of these tricks is more challenging
than a trick book trick.

Game Quotes
SSX has the most talkative characters of any game I've played. I've
gotten many of their lines together here. Send me the ones I've missed!
I will probably eventually add the ones I've missed (winning, losing,
being pushed, and starting a race). Sorry, I'm just busy.
Announcer
Please note that the announcers also have various scratched lines that
don't translate well into writing, so I wrote down what he basically
says.
Big Boost
"Your boost is full."
"Your boost is maxed out."
Falling
"Ah, man."
"Bring on the pain."
"Down and out."
"Gravity wins."
"Houston. We have a problem."
"I'd cut that out of the replay."
"I didn't know backs could bend that way!"
"Someone call the doctor."
"That's gotta hurt."
"The captain of crunch!"
"What would ya mother think?"
Good Trick
"BAM!"
"Call your mama in the room and show her how great you are!"
"Dope."
"Is that a sweet, funky dope manuever."
"Now you're playing with style."
"Riding the transition like a dream."
"Rippin'."
"Tasty."
"That's what the crowd wants."
"What was that?"
"Yeah, that was a good trick!"
"Yeah, yeah, yeah!"
Repeating a Trick
"Again!"
"Again?"
"Another repeat."
"Don't make me say that again."
"Here's a repeat."
"I think we saw that already."
"Same trick is only half the points."
"Same trick only half the boost."
"That's the only trick you ever knew."
"The Repeater!"
"We need to get a little 'riginal."

Trying to Boost with Any Adrenal
"Ain't no boost without no tricks."
"Pump up your boost with tricks."
"Tricks equal boost. Boost equals speed."
"You gotta do tricks to boost."
"You gotta do tricks to get boost."
"You gotta trick to boost."
Various Tricks
The list here is too long. He names the trick, including frontside,
backside, etc. or says "Sick!" or "Combo!" if you pulled either a ??? or a
trick with a really long name.
Elise
Not a very talkative rider, but its okay because her voice is one
of the worst in the game.

Jurgen
I dislike this guy intensely, and he speaks German. I'd like to say
here that I may never get around to finishing this with the original
German and adding extra quotes unless somebody submits it. I'd also
like to extend a special thanks to Florian for coming over and
spending his ten minutes on humoring me and translating all of what
you see. He'd never played before and wasn't that great at tricks,
so there's many more falling quotes, you'll notice.
After Doing A Phat Trick
"Correct."
"I am the master."
Falling
"Concentrate."
"How could that happen to me?"
"I can't believe it."
"I guess I'm too old for that."

Zoe
Though she isn't as talkative as the others, I think she has some
of the game best voice acting and thats saying something.
After Doing A Phat Trick
"Smooth as silk."
"Woohoo!"
Falling
"C'mon Zoe, c'mon!"
"Oh man."
"This is gonna cost me."
"This is gonna leave a scar!"
"I know this is gonna hurt. I just know this is gonna hurt!"
"What a screw!"
"Yard sale." (This is no longer in confusion. For the unenlightened,
this is, and I quote, ' When you fall on skis, the bindings are set
up in such a way that they release from your boots (otherwise you'd
have folks with busted legs all over the mountain =). Consequently
when you had a particularly bad fall, your skis could go off in
different directions, along with your poles, hat, glasses, etc. so
that the slope looked like a yard sale. Junk everywhere. =)' Many
thanks to Kevin Leonard for this info. He also notes that it is
mainly a skiing term not often used with snowboarding.)

Trick Criteria
Here's the short results of a failed project. I was going to makes a big
program that found what type of trick you did in C++ as a project. However,
I started and realized how overwhelming it would be, and gave up (I'm like
a snake). These are the various factors that determine what kind of trick
you just did.
Character (determines various grabs)>
Fakie (determines if the suffix of fakie should be added)>
Quarter Pipe or Bowl (determines if you could have done an Egg Flip or
McTwist)>
Alpine (more grab determination)>
Shoulder Buttons Pressed (determine grabs done, if any)>
IF YES: Tweak (determines if grabs were tweaked)>
IF YES: Late Grab (determines if you did a late
grab)>
IF YES: Shoulder Buttons Pressed (determines
grab)>
IF YES: Tweak (determines if you tweaked
the grab)>
Spin Done (determines degree of spin)
IF >0: Frontside Or Backside (determines if it is

Q & A
This is where I answer questions for you all. Send in your (valid) questions
and I'll answer them.
1. What are your tips for attaining a 150k on Pipe Dream? I've mastered
everything else, and I can sometimes get this high with Kaori (what a
babe! hehe) but my other homie, Moby, well, the highest I can get is
mid-120k.
First of all, make sure all his stats are maxed out and he's riding
one of his best boards. On the first jump, hit a multiplier, and do a
trick of at least 40,000 points. Make sure you have at least 75,000
by the time you get to the halfpipe near the finish line. Do double
and triple Rodeos and Mistys and do various tweaked grabs so you
don't lose points for the tricks. Good luck on that. Its tough the
first time. By the time you get good, you can beat it with over a
minute left on the clock.
2.Ok what exactly is a "???" Is it over 1800 or three flips?
That's it? No tricks tacked on or anything? About how many points
do you get for doing it and where's the easiest place to do it on Pipe
Dream?
That's it. You can add tricks, but the announcer won't acknowledge it.
All he says is 'Sick!'. Your points vary by your spins and flips, but
I can usually get a little over 10,000 points for one. The best place
to do them in the game is the wind tunnel in Toyko Megaplex, however,
the first jump on Pipe Dream had limitless possibilities for tricks.
I did my quadruple backflip and my 1980 there.
3.I would like to ask you one question though... On the tricks that call for
the "Square" button to be pushed... How do you get this to work? I have
tried every combination I can think of and it never does anything different
than the basic trick. I've tried pushing the square during the setup,
after pressing the other buttons, pressing it at the same time as the other
buttons, pressing it first, pressing it while in the air... I mean it is
driving me nuts. I need someone to tell me when you press the square in
order to tweak a trick. Then if its just me I can practice but at least I
want be wasting time trying to do the stupid thing 16 different ways!
It's just a timing issue. Not tough. What I try to do is establish the grab,
then press Square as I continue in the air. Just work on it and eventually
you'll get it.
