0.0 - UPDATE HISTORY

VERSION 1.6 : November 26, 2001 [FINAL: 53.3 KB]
- Added some new sections, corrected everything. Tryin' to make this pop'n music
Guide as "complete" as possible, and I believe it's finished~! If it's not,
oh well. I'll live with it. At least you get to know everything there is to
pop'n music. Heh heh . . . ^^;; I'm trying to complete all of my Guides since
I'm spending way too much time on other stuff such as writing more Guides! Also,
I did not include in the character profiles and the Lyrics to the Songs because
they can be viewed [as well as many more!] at my pop'n music Fansite "Style of
your Love" @ http://www.ginkoginko.com/styleofyourlove/index.html
I wanted to thank my pop'n friends: Justin, Malcom, Pernell, Eddie, and Mark for
being the kewlest friends ever to talk about pop'n music with. ^^;; Love ya~!

VERSION 1.5
- Cheat Code Central and Tim's Vault posted my Guide! YATTA~! I need to update
the information concerning BEGINNER Game Mode though, but I'm too lazy! ^^;;

VERSION 1.4
- I FINALLY FIGURED OUT HOW TO OPEN UP HYPER GAME MODE!!! I'm so happy! =P Oh
yeah, finally figured out what does the GAME LEVEL does thanks to my friend,
Crono! Arigatou! ^^;; WOW! While reading through it, I think this Guide is
about 100% complete and accurate! =P Changed around some stuff . . . Added
some more terms while trying to type up my pop'n music 2 Guide! ^^;; Corrected
the CS ORIGINAL CHARACTER thingy thanks to Reo-kun! ^^ I'm very happy about one
thing, and that is my mother never liked pop'n music until just recently my sis
and I begged her to play. Guess what?! SHE LIKED THE GAME!!! Not as much as
BAG, but she liked it! ^^;; Thanks, Mom, for being one of the kewlest parents
around!!! ^^;;

VERSION 1.3
- Corrected some stuff in here and added new terms. Also, I should thank Al of
About.com for posting my Guide on his Website! THANKS A LOT! ^^;; Corrected
some more things and added some new ones! ^^;; Fixed some stuff in Section
12.0. Had to correct the Themes. Especially SANAE's! ^^;; I can now pass
CHARLY's and BAMBOO's Themes thanks to pop'n music 2! ^^;; And I corrected some
wrong info.

VERSION 1.2
- Got pop'n music 2, and you know what that means? Yup, I'm typin' up a Guide for
it! Also, corrected the thing about the Sylvie/Silvie thingy, and about KRAFT?
and UNCLE Jam. Changed around some things.

VERSION 1.1
- Arranged Theme List according to the title of the Theme rather than by CHARACTER
and gave proper name to the Themes by surfin' around Japanese pop'n music
Fansites. Also, is it Silvie or Sylvie??? I don't have pop'n music 2 and in the
KONAMI HOMEPAGE, it states Silvie, but everyone calls him Sylvie?!? Which is
right here???

VERSION 1.0
- Created the pop'n music Guide! GameFAQs accepted my Guide! I'm so happy! =P
Make necessary changes! ^^;;

1.0 - INTRODUCTION
Welcome to my Guide to one of my favorite Rhythm Action and my very first Game of
the BeMani series, pop'n music! ^^;; What really got me attracted to pop'n music was when
I saw a banner of Timer from pop'n music 2. I instantly fell in love with Timer, and I
wanted to know more about him. So when I clicked onto that banner, it led me to the pop'n
series terminal called "pop'n world". So as I was looking through the Website -- I told
myself: "This is one Game I has gots to play!" After long searching and a crave to play
this Game, I finally got myself pop'n music with thanks to my friend, Reo-kun! ^^;; [You
can obviously tell I was a VERY HAPPY girl when I got the Game! =P ] And it still shocks
me that what started this addiction to pop'n music was all because of Timer! ^^;; THANK
YOU, MY BUNNY-BOY! *kisses Timer to death* Heh heh . . . ^^;;
ANYWAYS!! Many people has never even heard of the pop'n series, but they should
because it's fun as Hell! Don't let the appearance fool ya! ^^;; Some people think that
pop'n music is an "insult" to the BeMani series, a "child's Game" as they will call it!!
Well, it isn't! Try playin' BAMBOO's STAGE with 9 BUTTONS alone is not a laughin'
manner!!! x_X;; pop'n music has a GREAT replay value [My sister and I could never stop
playin' this Game, and it's usually hard for us to even _find_ a Game in which we will
spend great time into!!! ^^;; ], especially when you bring a friend to play along with
you! Hands down, this is the ULTIMATE party Game! ^^;;
So I hope this Guide would teach you all there is to pop'n music and many more, and
probably you would enjoy as much as how my sister and I did! ^^;; If you guys have never
heard or played this Game, I at least recommend you should! Try to find a copy of it, go
to your nearest Import store and buy/rent it, or try to borrow it from a friend. Hell, it
could even be your first BeMani Game as it was for my sis and I! Mainly if you're a kid at
heart, this Game should be very entertainin'! ^^;; Oh yeah, and if you're wonderin',
pop'n music is nothing like Bust A Move/Groove!!! =P
Well, I hope you love this Guide and please let me know your feedbacks on it! So
feel free to e-mail me any questions, praises, comments, or anything at all to me at
enigmaopoeia@hotmail.com. Do keep your flames in the trash where they belong. And thank
you, and happy reading! ^^;;

2.0 - WALKTHROUGH
So you either bought, rented, or borrowed pop'n music? But your only question is
how the heck do you play this Game anyways? Well, I hope it is explained below! ^^;; :

HOW TO PLAY POP'N MUSIC:
So, you want to know how to play? ^^;; Learning how to play pop'n music is pretty
simple. You will see these little blocks, called Mr. Pop, which are horizontally aligned
on 9 vertical lines. These Mr. Pop's goal is to fall down toward the red bar, called the
Judgment Bar, on the bottom of the screen. What your goal is that once Mr. Pop falls onto
the Judgment Bar, press the according BUTTON [BUTTONS A - I] as to where Mr. Pop falls on
that line of the Judgment Bar. These BUTTONS can be shown on the BUTTON MARK.
The position as to how Mr. Pop is hit on the Judgment Bar determines whether you
will get a result of a FEVER, GREAT, GOOD, or BAD. If you got Mr. Pop to be perfectly
aligned on the Judgment Bar, you will get a GREAT and if you continue to hit Mr. Pop
perfectly on the Judgment Bar and your Rhythm Level is MAXed out, you will get a FEVER; if
Mr. Pop is partially on the Judgment Bar as you hit it, you will get a GOOD; and if you
completely miss hitting Mr. Pop on the Judgment Bar, you will get a BAD. It may sound
complicated, but you will get the hang of it after a while! ^^;; There's also a Tutorial
in the BEGINNER Game Mode in order for you to learn about how to play the Game!
Another unique feature about pop'n music is you're actually composing the sound
effects and the vocals to the Themes! So it kinda makes ya feel you're in total control of
the Game!! ^^;; Hey, at least I happen to like this feature! =P
If you're wondering how to win in pop'n music, it's like this: There is a gauge
bar, called the Rhythm Level, on the bottom below the Judgment Bar. You will read the
word, BAD, on the far left and the word, GOOD, on the far right of the Rhythm Level in
which they are called the BAD ZONE and the GOOD ZONE. As you get GOODs, GREATs, and
FEVERs, the Rhythm Level will fill up. If you are around the GOOD ZONE on the Rhythm
Level, you're in good shape! [Well, duh~! =P ] But the BADs you will get will lower your
Rhythm Level which means you're in bad shape! [Again, duh~!] ^^;; So try to get as many
GOODs, GREATs, and FEVERs in order to keep yourself in the GOOD ZONE! To know real quickly
whether you're in the BAD ZONE or in the GOOD ZONE is if you see the Rhythm Level has
nothing, but blue bars, then you are in the BAD ZONE! If the Rhythm Level has some red
bars, then you are in the GOOD ZONE! ^^;; If you happen to fill the Rhythm Level all the
way, all the GREATs you will get will turn into FEVERs! FEVERs will not only shows that
you're in _REAL_ good shape, but it makes your CHARACTER do a cute animation as well! ^^;;
Once the Theme is finished, and the Rhythm Level is in the GOOD ZONE, then you have passed
that STAGE and can go onto the next!! BANZAI BANZAI! But if the Theme ends, and the
Rhythm Level is in the BAD ZONE, then you have lost the Game and you will be given an
option whether you want to retry or quit. =(
Understand the main point of it all? C'mon, let's pop'n music!!

=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
SECRETS:
Here is the complete list of the secret Songs you can access. Do note that the
secret Songs would only appear on STAGE 3, and you can play under NORMAL or HARD Game Mode
to access them. ^^;;

GENRE HOW TO ACCESS THE STAGE
AFRICA : Play RAP on STAGE 1 and REGGAE on STAGE 2.
BONUS TRACK : The first number in your scores of for either STAGE 1 or 2 must all be 3's,
5's, or 7's such as: 33 GREATs, 39 GOODs, and 3 BADs.
CLASSIC : Play FANTASY on STAGE 1 and LATIN on STAGE 2.
TECHNO'80 : My sis said she played J-TEKNO on STAGE 1 and DANCE on STAGE 2, and
TECHNO'80 was accessable to her. o_O;; But in "KONAMI HOMEPAGE", it states
you must play J-TEKNO on STAGE 1 in order for TECHNO'80 to be accessable in
STAGE 3, but it doesn't work. Weird.
J-POP : Play POPS on STAGE 1, and DANCE or DISCO QUEEN on STAGE 2.
RAVE : In the "KONAMI HOMEPAGE", it states you must play J-TEKNO on STAGE 1 and
DANCE on STAGE 2, and you must score at least 85% of GREATs on both STAGEs!
Then RAVE should now be accessable in STAGE 3! What my sis and I did was we
played J-TEKNO on STAGE 1 and DANCE on STAGE 2 using 9 BUTTONS, and when my
sis and I figured out we didn't open up RAVE, we goofed around and played
BONUS TRACK. We lost, so we then played J-POP. We lost as well, so we were
about to play TECHNO'80 [Our last resort!], we saw RAVE opened up to us!
o_O;; I don't know what we did, but it's scary and we'll never ever try to
open up RAVE again!! ^^;;
FUSION : I tried playing FANTASY on STAGE 1 and DISCO QUEEN on STAGE 2, and FUSION
was accessable in STAGE 3, but now, it's not working! x_X;; I heard that
you must play as BAMBOO in order to access him, but I got him by playin' as
CHAMEL! So weird. Oh well. ^^;;

4.0 - THE MAIN SCREEN
[If you have already saved your data onto a Memory Card, you should be able to see
the words, "AUTO LOAD COMPLETED", on the far right of the screen when loading the Game.]
You will be given an option depending on your controller type. If you have a
PlayStation controller hooked up, just click on NO because it tells you whether you want
your controller settings to be in this fashion. Unless you like that order, then click on
YES. You can change this in OPTIONS. But if you have the pop'n controller hooked up, it
would tell you instead if you want to pop under 5, 7, or 9 BUTTONS. ^^;;
This is the main screen in which you can select from the many choices below of how
you want to play pop'n music! You should see a background picture of a studio with Nyami
and Mimi, both dancing, on the sides of the foreground.
The options you are asked to select are explained below in their own sections! And
if you let the Game be idle at the main screen, you should soon see a screen of a
demostration of how pop'n music is played with Mary and UNCLE Jam in UNCLE Jam's STAGE with
the Theme "DEMOSTRATION: YOUNG DREAM" by LITTLE FINGERS playin' in the background.

=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
5.0 - GAME START/FREE
This first option of the main screen, GAME START, basically is the real meat of
pop'n music as you can say! Think of it as the ARCADE MODE! =P Mainly, you will select
a CHARACTER on a certain Game Mode, and square off against three CHARACTERs of your choice!
What STAGE you can play on in STAGE 3 determines on the first two STAGEs you have selected
as well as how well you have SCOREd in those two STAGEs! ^^;; You will open up new Themes
and CHARACTERs by using this option!
The second option of the main screen, FREE, allows you to play any STAGE you like
freely! Mainly, it allows you to have a choice of what you want to play and at what level!
You are only given choices of what STAGEs to play in which you have already opened though.
You will not open up new Themes or CHARACTERs by using this option!

=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

GAME MODE SELECT/FREE:
This option allows you to select what type of Game Mode you want to play pop'n

[NOTE: SANAE-chan and Rave girl are not playable characters.]

BEGINNER MODE:
- This option is read as BIGINAA in Japanese. Once selected, you should see Nyami as the
playable character. This option allows you to play pop'n music under BEGINNER Game Mode
which means the opponents can't perform any OJAMAs and you will be given a lesser amount
of Mr. Pop to hit. With this option, you can only go up to 2 STAGEs!
- You can change your CHARACTER by pressing the default BUTTONS of the L1 and L2 buttons
or the B BUTTON to go to the previous character or the R1 and R2 buttons or the H BUTTON
to go to the next character. Do note that you can only choose between Nyami and Mimi in
BEGINNER Game Mode which doesn't really matter because either way, you'll be playin' as
both of them. =( [Do note that most of the Themes you have opened won't appear in
BEGINNER Game Mode!] You can also change the CHARACTERs' colors by pressing the default
BUTTONS of the Square button or the C and G BUTTONS.
- Once this is selected, you will be given a Tutorial as to how to play pop'n music which
is good to note, especially if you are a beginner! ^^;; To quickly skip PRACTICE,
press and hold SELECT and START.

NORMAL MODE:
- This option is read as NOUMARU in Japanese. Once selected, you should see Mary as the
playable character. This option allows you to play pop'n music under NORMAL Game Mode
which means the opponents can perform OJAMAs which blocks your view, and it will also
warn you if they are to use them! You get to go against 3 STAGEs with this option!
- You can change your CHARACTER by pressing the default BUTTONS of the L1 and L2 buttons or
the B BUTTON to go to the previous character or the R1 and R2 buttons or the H BUTTON to
go to the next character. You can also change the CHARACTERs' colors by pressing the
default BUTTONS of the Square button or the C and G BUTTONS.

HARD MODE:
- This option is read as HAADO in Japanese. Once selected, you should see the KING as the
playable character. This option allows you to play pop'n music under HARD Game Mode
which means the opponents can perform OJAMAs which totally rearranges the position of
Mr. Pop without warning! x_X;; You get to go against 3 STAGEs with this option!

=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

STAGE SELECT:
Once selected you should see a screen in which you can select what CHARACTER you
want to play against. Above the CHARACTER is their name, and to their right is the
information of what Genre their Theme is and what STAGE you are playin' under. To the left
of the CHARACTERs is a circle with the words "STAGE SELECT" above it. This circle
describes the DIFFICULTY of the Theme thus notice the bar will change between CHARACTERs?
The DIFFICULTY ranges from 1 to 23 being 1 is EASY and 23 is HARD. The word in
green is read as KANTAN in Japanese [or translated as EASY]. If the DIFFICULTY bar happens
to reach around this area [they will usually have green and yellow bars], then that means
the Theme is fairly easy to play. The word in red is read as MUZUI in Japanese [or
translated as HARD]. If the bar happens to reach around this area [they will usually have
green, yellow, orange, and red bars], then that means the Theme would be a challenge for
you! Keep in mind if you are just starting out, then choose CHARACTERs in which their
DIFFICULTY have green and yellow bars. If you forgotten what BUTTONS you choose which will
play as BUTTONS A through I, then press SELECT. If you want to quickly exit the STAGE,
then press and hold SELECT and then START.
Here is the full list of the characters you will encounter for each STAGE:

- You can do this whenever you are in GAME START or FREE Modes, but you must be playin'
under 9 BUTTONS! On the first Player controller or the pop'n music controller, press and
hold SELECT. Then the words of the GENRE and CHARACTER should soon change in a variety
of rainbow colors. Then press the default BUTTONS of the Circle button or the E BUTTON!

=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

HERE WE GO!:
- This screen will be opened once you have selected a CHARACTER to go against. On the left
side of the screen, you should see your CHARACTER [labeled as you], and on the right side
of the screen will be your opponent [labeled as com]. On top of the screen should state
what Game Mode and what STAGE you are on. On the middle of the screen should state the
genre of the CHARACTERs' Theme, and on the bottom of the screen should state the title
of the Theme and what Artist(s) performed their Theme. ^^;;

TONIGHT STATS:
- This screen will be opened once you have finished a STAGE. This allows you to view your
scores of how many GREATs [FEVERs will be counted as GREATs], GOODs, and BADs you have
got in that STAGE as well as your STAGE SCORE and TOTAL SCORE! ^^;; Hell, you can even
view your Rhythm Level! =P
- If you are playing FREE Mode, after viewing all of these, a box will appear in the middle
of the screen with options for you to select:
-CONTINUE : Allows you to replay the STAGE again if you want to perfect it.
-STAGE SELECT : Allows you to select another STAGE in which you can play under.
-MODE SELECT : Allows you to select another Game Mode in which you can play under.
-EXIT : Allows you to exit out of this screen and goto the main screen.

CONTINUE?:
- This screen will be opened once you failed to complete a STAGE. This allows you to retry
again, but under one condition: The TOTAL SCORE you have recieved thus so far will be
reduced down to 0!!! x_X;; If you want to quickly end your Game and do not retry, then
quickly press the default BUTTONS of the Triangle button or the D or F BUTTONS.

GAME OVER:
- If you didn't retry on the CONTINUE? screen, you will be given a "GAME OVER". ^^;;

CONGRATULATIONS!:
- You will see this once you completed three STAGEs [or two STAGEs if you are playing
BEGINNER Game Mode]. It should show a screen of the three genres in which you have
chosen. It will also show the number of GREATs, GOODs, and BADs you have SCOREd in them.
And if you're lucky enough, you will get to view one of the two endings, and luckily your
name will be put onto the RANKING board! ^^;;
- One of the two endings has a studio in the background in which you can hear "surechigau
nihito" by apresmidi in the background as the studio will change from Morning to Night.
The second ending has the words, pop'n music, on the background as you will see all of
the CHARACTERs in different poses filling up the screen, it's much like the opening
scenes in those Moraff PC Games, while "Theme of staff roll" is playing! =P

So, do you like pop'n music? I hope you're noddin' your head! ^^;; C'mon, play
it again! Have you opened any SECRET CHARACTERs? If not, go and try!! Have fun~!

6.0 - TRAINING
This third option of the main screen allows you to train under STAGEs in which you
might have problems on. Your default CHARACTER is either Nyami or Mimi, and you should see
a background picture of RIE-chan. You are only given choices of what STAGEs to play of
those in which you have already opened. You will not open up new Themes or CHARACTERs by
using this option!

TRAINING MAIN SCREEN:
You should see the word of a certain genre to a CHARACTERs' Theme, the default is
POPS considering you have played against RIE-chan. If you haven't played against RIE-chan,
the default will be FANTASY. Here is where you will get to choose one genre out of the
nineteen Themes, considering that you already opened up all nineteen Themes, to train
under. Once you have selected a Theme, you should see a background picture of UNCLE Jam
with some options for you to choose!

START:
- This option allows you to start playing the STAGE in which you are trainin' under.

MUSIC SELECT:
- This option allows you to change the genre of what Theme you want to train under. You
should see a background picture of RIE-chan.
- The full list of the Themes you can select are: POPS, RAP, LATIN, J-TEKNO, FANTASY,
TECHNO POP, DANCE, REGGAE, ANIME HERO, DISCO QUEEN, SPY, DISCO KING, BONUS TRACK, RAVE,
J-POP, TECHNO'80, FUSION, CLASSIC, AFRICA, BEGINNER POPS, BEGINNER RAP, BEGINNER LATIN,
BEGINNER J-TEKNO, BEGINNER FANTASY, BEGINNER TECHNO POP, BEGINNER DANCE, BEGINNER REGGAE,
and BEGINNER DISCO QUEEN.
[NOTE: HYPER TECHNO'80, HYPER CLASSIC, and HYPER AFRICA are not playable.]

SETTING:
- This option allows you to change the settings in which you want to train under. You
should see a background picture of TORU KAMIKAZE.

EXIT:
- This option allows you to exit out of this screen and go back to the main screen.

=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

SETTINGS:
When you select the option, SETTING, you are given these selections!:

SPEED:
- This option allows you to change the SPEED of the Theme playing in which 1 is the slowest
and 5 is normal speed. If the setting is set on 1 to 4, you will hear no BGM and you
will hear a timer instead. You should see a background picture of DiNO.

PHRASE:
- This option allows you to view the patterns in which Mr. Pop will fall under, this is
good in case you want to remember their directions beforehand. You should see the main
bar of the pop'n music screen.

OJAMA:
- This option allows you to change the difficulty of the TRICKs the CHARACTER will be using
against you. NORMAL only blocks your view of Mr. Pop such as DiNO breathing fire to
cover the middle part of the screen, it will also warn you if the CHARACTER is about to
perform an OJAMA; HARD basically changes the direction in which Mr. Pop will fall without
warning; and OFF means the CHARACTERs won't be performing any OJAMAs just as if you were
playin' under BEGINNER Game Mode! You should see a background picture of CHARLY.

AUTO:
- This option allows whether you want the computer to play in your place so you can either
watch Mr. Pop's directions or if you just wanna listen to the Theme! =P ON allows the
computer to play by itself as both the you and com PLAYERS, and OFF means you will be
playing as the you PLAYER. If you have selected ON and played in a STAGE, and you want
to exit. Then press START. You should see a background picture of OLIVIA.

REPEAT:
- This option allows you that once you finish a STAGE, it will automatically repeat the
STAGE for you! ON allows the STAGE to repeat itself once finished, and OFF allows that
you can select another STAGE once you finish that STAGE. If you have selected ON and
played in a STAGE, and you want to exit. Then press START. You should see a background
picture of SHOLL KEE.

EXIT:
- This option allows you to exit out of this screen and go back to the TRAINING screen.

=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
7.0 - OPTION
This fourth option of the main screen allows you to change the settings and of the
like in the Game! You should see a background picture of Nyami and Mimi.

=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

GAME OPTION
This first option allows you to enter the basic settings of pop'n music. You
should see a background picture of Mary.

GAME LEVEL:
- This option allows you to change the level of difficulty in the Game in which you are
playing in which 1 is the easiest and 6 is the hardest. If the GAME LEVEL is on 1,
whenever you make GOODs or GREATs, they will increase the RHYTHM LEVEL greatly, but if
you make a BAD, it wouldn't count as much. If the GAME LEVEL is on 6, whenever you make
GOODs or GREATs, they won't count as much, but when you get a BAD, it'll decrease the
RHYTHM LEVEL greatly. [Thanks, Crono!] My sis and I usually let the GAME LEVEL be on 3.

SOUND MODE:
- This option allows you to change the sound output between STEREO and MONAURAL. STEREO is
always the best option IMHO! =P

BGM VOLUME:
- This option allows you to change the volume in which you want the background Music to
play in which 1 is quiet and 9 is loud. 9 is always the best option IMHO! =P

SE VOLUME:
- This option allows you to change the volume in which you want the sound effects to play
in which 1 is quiet and 9 is loud. 9 is always the best option IMHO! =P

VIBRATION:
- This option allows you to change the vibrations on the Dual Shock controller, considering
if you do have one. NO USE means there will be no vibrations [as if you have a normal
PlayStation controller]; MISS means the Dual Shock controller will vibrate if you have
miss to hit Mr. Pop on your screen; BEAT SYNC means the Dual Shock controller vibrates to
the beats of the Themes; and BUTTON means the Dual Shock controller will vibrate once you
have hit a BUTTON. My sis and I usually let this option be on BUTTON or NO USE.

BUTTON MODE:
- This option allows you to change the number of BUTTONS you will be usin' in pop'n music.
5 BUTTONS means you will be controlling BUTTONS C through G; 7 BUTTONS means you will be
contolling BUTTONS B through H; and 9 BUTTONS means you will be controlling BUTTONS A
through I. Only true POPPERS can play 9 BUTTONS, like my sister! =P Only beginners,
like myself, should try 5 BUTTONS, then move on up to 7 BUTTONS, and then onto 9 BUTTONS.

EXIT:
- This option allows you to exit out of this screen and go back to OPTION.

=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

KEY CONFIG:
This second option allows you to change what BUTTONS will be pressed on the normal
PlayStation controller, considering that you don't have the pop'n controller. You should
see a background picture of the pop'n music STAGE with Nyami to the left and Mimi to the
right.

PLAYER:
- This option allows you to change the BUTTONS config for either PLAYER 1 or PLAYER 2.

DEFAULT TYPE:
- This option allows you to change what BUTTONS will be pressed by these VII already preset
settings! ^^;; My sis and I favorite DEFAULT TYPE is I. This is what KONAMI put down
as descriptions for these types, it kinda gives ya an idea of what the types are supposed
to represent:
Type I - No description. [Probably the default of the DEFAULT TYPE.]
Type II - For people who have played with beatmania Controller.
Type III - Possible to play L1/L2 buttons and R1/R2 buttons with the same button.
Type IV - For people who don't want to assign many buttons to Directional buttons.
Type V - You might be able to play with beatmania Controller.....
Type VI - When playing 2P, Player 1 should do this.
Type VII - When playing 2P, Player 2 should do this.

SETUP:
- This option allows you to manually change what BUTTONS will be pressed, considering that
you don't like any of the DEFAULT TYPEs.

EXIT:
- This option allows you to exit out of this screen and go back to OPTION.

=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

SOUND TEST:
This third option allows you to listen to all of the Themes which you have opened
up thus so far. You should see a background picture of JUDY.

BGM:
- This option allows you to listen to all of the 19 Themes, considering you have opened up
all 19 of them, in which only the BGM will be playing and not the sound effects within.
Once you have selected the BGM, you will be given another option, SE, in which you can
play the many sound effects of that certain Theme! ^^;;

EXIT:
- This option allows you to exit out of this screen and go back to OPTION.

=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

RECORDS:
This fourth option allows you to view the RANKINGs [Hi-SCORE board] of the POPPERS.
You should see a background picture of BAMBOO.

BEGINNER:
- This option allows you to view the top 5 POPPERS under BEGINNER Game Mode.

NORMAL:
- This option allows you to view the top 5 POPPERS under NORMAL Game Mode.

HARD:
- This option allows you to view the top 5 POPPERS under HARD Game Mode.

EXIT:
- This option allows you to exit out of this screen and go back to OPTION.

=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

MEMORY CARD:
This fifth option allows you to either SAVE or LOAD your Game on your Memory Card,
considering that you have one. You should see a background picture of the KING.

LOAD:
- This option allows you to load the data of pop'n music from your Memory Card.

SAVE:
- This option allows you to save the data of pop'n music onto your Memory Card.

AUTOSAVE:
- This option allows that whenever you change a setting in OPTION or finish a Game or
whatever, it will automatically save that data onto your Memory Card. OFF means that it
won't automatically save onto your Memory Card; and ON means that it will automatically
save onto your Memory Card, and since this option is highly recommended -- turn it ON!

EXIT:
- This option allows you to exit out of this screen and go back to OPTION.

=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

OPTION RESET:
This sixth option allows you reset all of the preset settings back to their default
ones. You should see a background picture of DON MOMMY.

OK ?:
- This option allows you reset all of the preset settings back to default.

EXIT:
- This option allows you to exit out of this screen and go back to OPTION.

=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

EXIT:
This last option allows you to exit out of this screen and goto the main screen.

=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
8.0 - MODE [OFF]
This is the secret fifth option of the main screen which will be opened once you
have finished a Game. This determines what unique method in which you want to play pop'n
music under. It's a real good feature and I at least recommend you should try it,
especially when the Themes are becoming too easy for you! =P

OFF:
- This is mainly the default setting of this option. This basically means that there will
be no unique feature to your Game, so you will be basically playing a normal Game of
pop'n music. This I recommend for beginners to this Game.

MIRROR:
- This second option allows Mr. Pop to fall on the opposite side of the screen than what it
normally do such as if it normally falls on the right, it will now fall on the left.
Pretty unique feature.

RANDOM:
- This third option allows Mr. Pop to fall in random patterns on the screen, really good
for those who are starting to remember the patterns! This is our favorite method! =P

HIDDEN:
- This fourth option allows Mr. Pop to be invisible once they fall near the bottom portion
of the screen which basically makes the Game much harder to play! Not our favorite. =(

=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
9.0 - TIPS AND TRICKS
Any of your questions would be answered here as well as hints, tricks, and tips to
make your pop'n experience much smoother. =P :

- pop'n music is a lot funner to play with your friends, and let them co-op with you.
Unlike Bust A Move/Groove, you cannot go against your friends, but what you can do is you
and your friend can both work as a team together! ^^;; What my sis and I do is that my
sis handles BUTTONS A through E while I handle BUTTONS F through I!
- pop'n music is a lot livelier to play using a Dual Shock controller! Of course, if you
seem to be losing the rhythm because of the BEAT SYNC, then TURN IT OFF!
- If you just can't win at pop'n music, then try playing FANTASY on STAGE 1 and LATIN on
STAGE 2 using 5 BUTTONS on BEGINNER Game Mode for they are the EASIEST STAGEs ever! =P
If you can't pass their STAGEs, then maybe pop'n music isn't the Game for you, try
playin' PaRappa The Rapper, Um Jammer Lammy, UNiSON, or Bust A Move/Groove.
- If you can't seem to play a certain CHARACTER's Theme right, then try out their Theme in
TRAINING Mode and perfect your skills!
- When you see a lot of Mr. Pop coming your way, especially in Themes like CHAMEL's, BOY's,
Rave girl's, BAMBOO's, CHARLY's, or OLIVIA's -- don't fret! Only focus on those which
are really important and they are frequent, and ignore the others which don't appear
quite as much. As long as you keep the GREATs comin' on those repeating buttons which
appears a lot, you should be in good shape! =P
- If you find that playin' 7 or 9 BUTTONS is hard, then try 5 BUTTONS! It might make the
stress factor a little easier. =P
- If you are like my sis and I, and are finding yourself singin' to these Themes! Then you
finally know that pop'n music has done some good onto you! =P But if you're losin' the
rhythm, then stop singin'! Did that help a little? ^^;;
- Always let the AUTOSAVE be ON because if you unlock a new Theme or CHARACTER, and you
happen to reset your Game or forgot to save it -- can you say that you will be WAY BEYOND
pissed? Especially when you open CHARACTERs like Rave girl, BOY, or SANAE-chan! So let
the AUTOSAVE be ON! ^^;;
- If you're having problems tryin' to figure out how to open those SECRET CHARACTERs, try
this strategy: Select Themes in which when both genres are put together, it'll create a
different one! ^^;; It's sounds weird, but that is how I access most of my secret
CHARACTERs! One example is think about what genre you will get when you combine POPS
and DANCE, you might be thinking of a cutsy dance beat thus J-POP must be created out of
it! ^^;; I opened up PRETTY's, HAMANOV's, and UNBABO's Themes by using this technique.
And I never looked it up on a Website! o.O;; Yes, it may sound weird -- but it works!!!
- I don't think it matters what CHARACTER you select as to open a secret CHARACTER! Hey,
I didn't opened up Rave girl by using Mary, nor did I opened up SANAE-chan by using
RIE-chan. I opened up Rave girl by using SHOLL KEE, and SANAE-chan by using PRETTY!
- Try everyone's Theme at least once, you might find one that you might like and are really
good at! My sis and I are excellent POPPERS at J-TEKNO and DANCE! ^^;; If you only
care about getting a higher score, then select Themes in which you are really good at!
If you really want to open up those SECRET CHARACTERs and access those HYPER Game Modes,
you must learn to at least play everyone's Themes! ^^;;
- If you're finding yourself going through your whole controller just to press one BUTTON,
then goto OPTIONS and change your BUTTON settings into something easier for you to do.
My sis and I use L2 as BUTTON A, L1 as BUTTON B, Left as BUTTON C, Up as BUTTON D, Right
or Square as BUTTON E, Triangle as BUTTON F, Circle as BUTTON G, R1 as BUTTON H, and R2
as BUTTON I. Or better yet, get yourself a pop'n controller! =P
- If you are like my sister, and whenever you press one BUTTON and it'll come up on the
screen as you're pressin' two BUTTONS, then try giving more space between your thumb and
the BUTTONS. Because maybe your thumb is so close to another BUTTON in which whenever
you press a certain BUTTON, it will press the other one as well! ^^;;
- If you are like me, and whenever you see Mr. Pop come near the Judgment Bar and you have
this tendency just to hit that BUTTON, but it's coming up as BAD. Then this is what I
do, I first glance up to see what Mr. Pop are coming my way and then I focus straight
onto the Judgment Bar below. Once I see Mr. Pop in range of the Judgment Bar, I hit it
in time to get either a GOOD or a GREAT! ^^;;
- If pop'n music is becoming just too easy for you, then try it with 7 or 9 BUTTONS. Or
try playin' with a unique feature such as MIRROR, RANDOM, or HIDDEN! Did that help
enhance the Gameplay a little? =P
- If a certain Theme is becoming real difficult for you to play, then try playin' it under
RANDOM Mode and it should make it a *little bit* easier. Hey, it works for me! ^^;;
- Do you like pop'n music? Then go buy pop'n music 2 or any of it's future titles! I
swear to God you will enjoy it A LOT more! ^^;;
- If you don't like a certain character's colors, then press the default BUTTONS of the
Square button or the C and G BUTTONS, and you will see the character's alternate colors
in which they are known as 2P! ^^;;
- You don't have to play as Mary in NORMAL Game Mode or the KING in HARD Game Mode! You
can just press the default BUTTONS of the L1 and L2 buttons or the B BUTTON to go to the
previous character or the R1 and R2 buttons or the H BUTTON to go to the next character.
- If you think that TECHNO'80, AFRICA, or CLASSIC is a piece of cake to pass! Then try
pop'n to them under HYPER Game Mode! They're hard as Hell! Well, TECHNO'80 wasn't quite
so hard on 9 BUTTONS, but AFRICA and CLASSIC were a bitch! x_X;; To access HYPER Game
Mode, make sure that you opened up every genre in the Game. Then select either
TECHNO'80, AFRICA, or CLASSIC on GAME START or in FREE Game Modes. Then press and hold
SELECT, and you should soon see the CHARACTERs' name and their genre change in a variety
of colors. Then press the default BUTTONS of the Circle button or the E BUTTON, and you
are in HYPER Game Mode! It's kewl as Hell! ^^;;
- Is it worth your money to get the pop'n controller? I say, "YES!" The Game becomes more
entertainin' and somehow much *harder* just by usin' the pop'n controller. ^^;; It was
worth my money. I have fun tryin' to play pop'n music with the pop'n controller! And
also, who knows. There might be Songs that are easier to pass with the pop'n controller
than you can do on a PS controller. That is what my sister and I did for POWER FOLK in
pop'n music 3 APPEND DISC! It's easier with the pop'n controller. =}
- And the main hint and strategy of all that you must keep in mind: Just have fun, and try
out different things! ^^;; You might enjoy the Game even more!
