1.0 Introduction
------------------------------------------------------------------
Tony Hawks Pro Skater 3 is Neversofts third installment of a
series that shot skateboarding's popularity through the roof and
defined what a true "Xtreme" sports game should be like. One of
the most memorable aspects of the Tony Hawk series has been its
numerous cheat codes and also its quirky bugs. Tony Hawk 3 is no
exception to this. On January 2nd 2002 the Secrets Faq for TH3 on
the Gamefaqs page was updated with a strange "glitch" that let
you look around the entire level. This bug is almost definately
something the Neversoft used while developing TH3 when they wanted
to edit or get a better look at their levels. While this was
obviously taken out in the final game, a small hangover of it was
accidently (or knowingly) left in. This bug lets you basically
"fly" around the level, free from any obstructions. All of the
walls are transparent and you can pass through anything and
everything. This gives you the freedom to basically look at all
of the levels from anywhere you want (even where you're not
supposed to be!).
1.1 Updates and History
-1/6/02 : Version 1.0 - Everything is new. Section 2 is empty.
-1/7/02 : Version 1.0b - Found out that this code works in Free
Skate, Single Session and Career Mode and that this
bug also works in the Camecube Version. Corrected the
info on the double-tapping of X.
1.2 Getting it to Work
This code will work in both the Gamecube and PS2 versions of Tony
Hawks Pro Skater 3! (Thanks to Ben Daly for submitting this)
1) With Career Mode
This code works the best and easiest in Career Mode. You can
only get this code to successfuly work when you are entering a
level directly from the Skate Shop (using the level select in
the games menus once you are already in a level does not work).
This is because the game loads an extra something the first time
you enter a level from the Skate Shop. When switching from level
to level in the games internal menu, while the level loads you
will see the Neversoft eye at the bottom pause 3 times slowly and
then a 4th time very quickly a second before the game loads. This
is no good. When loading a level up from the Skate Shop, the eye
pauses an additional 2 times and loads up something else that is
otherwise not loaded when switching from level to level (I have
no clue what it loads additionally).
2) With Single Session and Free Skate
Basically the same thing as Career mode except this time there
is no extra 5th and 6th load. It also loads more quickly and your
timing must be very precise. (Thanks to Agent Dangerblade for
finding this out). And yes this also will work with the Tony Hawk 1
levels.
So heres what you do. While a level is loading (This MUST be
>from the Skate Shop at all times!!!), watch the small Neversoft
eye at the bottom-left corner of the screen. You will see it
looking around and in a few second it will pause. When it
pauses the 3rd time hold down the start button (note that you
must hit start immediatly AFTER the 3rd pause once it stops
moving but NOT after it starts to move again or before the 3rd
pause starts). Yes this sounds very confusing and it is until
you do it a few times. You only have about a 1 second time gap
to hit the start button. If you do it correctly, the level will
load up with the PAUSED menu on the screen but it will only be
the top part with none of the paused menu options. If you did
not do it correctly, the game will load up normally. You must
quit back out to the Skate Shop if this happens and try again.
1.3 Controls
Left Analog Stick - Used to look around.
Right Analog Sick - Push forward to go forward, back to go
backwards and left/right to strafe.
R1 - Moves straight up (according to the direction you are
looking in)
R2 - Moves straight down (according to the direction you are
looking in)
X - Double-tap X quickly to enter a semi-started mode in Career
mode on a competition level ONLY. What this will do is move
the camera back behind the skater and show the time, stance,
and Special Meter. The time will not actually start. It is
not know exactly what this does other than the fact that
when done in Tokyo that it will load the rest of the level
into memory. This will not do anything with Rio or Skater
Island (Rio is fully loaded anyway and Skater Island is only
missing a few pieces of the piarte ship).
The ONLY way to get out of this mode is to reset/power off your
PS2 or Gamecube.
1.4 Misc Things
-Some of the levels are NOT fully loaded when you go into them!
These levels include Airport (half of the level is missing),
Skater Island (mentioned in 1.3), Tokyo (the fix for this is
mentioned in 1.3) and the Cruise Ship (only the top deck and
front of the ship is intact, huge chucks of the level are not
present).
-If you use Demoness you will see the fire sprite used on her
hands at the restart point for that level (the restart point
being where you start when you go out of the level boundary or
into water).
