This is the newest version of my Tekken 4 Lee Chaolan FAQ; it is
improved in virtually every feasible way compared to the old one.
This FAQ is now truly unique because it is the only FAQ on this
website that gives so much Tekken 4 exclusive information on Lee
Chaolan as well as information that carries over from Tekken Tag
Tournament. Furthermore, reading this will give yet another
player’s interpretation of Lee and may add to other’s Lee game.
To top it off, I exercise good grammar, spelling, and I use the
semi colon correctly; that is a lot more than can be said about
others. ;)
Please feel free to send any comments and constructive criticism
to mrnunchaku@aol.com
My name is Nathan Pugh and I have been playing Tekken ever since
it originally hit the arcade. I bought Tekken 2 for the PSX, and
that is where I truly became good at Tekken. Tekken Tag
Tournament was a lot of fun both at home on the PS2 and at the
arcade, but now I never play it. When a brand new Tekken 4
machine was rolled into the game room on campus I and all my
Tekken buddies did not hesitate to pump in our quarters and start
playing. I have played Tekken 4 at least an hour a day almost
every day since then. I chose to write a FAQ about Lee for
several reasons, which I will explain later. Now, on with the
FAQ.
Many veteran Tekken players have had mixed feelings about Namco’s
newest installation of the series ever since it hit the arcade;
Tekken 4 has been accused of being worse than the very popular
Tekken Tag Tournament. Many say that it takes less strategy and
less skill to play due to the fact that many can win with nothing
but an incessant poking game with jabs and the “cheapness” of
hammering others into walls. I have played this game at school
almost everyday since it has come out, and I must say that this
is not so. I must admit that if you are new to Tekken or simply
not so good then you will most likely be frustrated with Steve
players nailing you with pokes or Paul players putting you right
back against that wall. However, the decent players who have
decided to stop complaining and learn to play have become too
good to get beaten by such cheap tactics. Enjoy Tekken 4 for its
great graphics, interesting 3D levels, IMO much improved music
(compared to all the techno sounding music from TTT), new moves
for every character and the addition of several new characters.
Marduk has a completely new style of fighting to play with,
Christie is considered a new and improved Eddie, Steve probably
takes the award for most innovative new character and Jin has a
new style of fighting all his own.
Tekken 4 should not be looked at as a game trying to get the
respect of Tekken players under the shadow of Tekken Tag
Tournament; it is a new game with a new style that still has all
our favorite qualities that we love in Tekken games.
As much as I like the new characters (new to me anyway) such as
Hwoarang, Ling, Steve, etc I find that my favorites are still the
older much more seasoned Tekken characters such as Paul, Kazuya,
Lei and of course Lee. In my opinion, Lee gets the award for most
improved character in T4. While all the other characters in T4
that were in TTT do have new abilities to play with, Lee has been
blessed with new moves and improvements to his old ones to make
for a more devastating arsenal. When TTT came out I was so happy
to see Lee had been given all kinds of new moves to set him apart
from Law and make him his own character with his own unique style
of fighting; in T4 this is now so more than ever.
Too often do I see people think of Lee as a joke character or a
character to be taken lightly; some of the best players I play
against don’t even use Lee thinking he is weak. If you have TTT
for the PS2, choose Lee in practice mode and compare him to a few
other characters of his size, such as Law. You will notice that
though his basic punches and kicks and throws are average power,
his special moves and abilities are weaker, rarely breaking 40
damage while other characters are dishing that much damage easily
with death fists and wind god fists. To this I say that perhaps
Lee is not for beginners or even intermediate Tekken players. To
be good with Lee you must have creativity and above all else you
must have style. Lee kicks butt with a style all his own that is
flashy, deadly and suites his character nicely. Of my top three
Tekken characters Lee is one of them; I like Lee because I win
consistently with him and he is a heck of a lot of fun to play.
One last note before we get on with the FAQ. This FAQ does not
have a movelist for Lee nor does it contain a key to explain the
button notations. However, no need to fear; simply go to
www.tekkenzaibatsu.com. It is a wonderful website that will give
an entire movelist for Lee and it will explain the conventions I
use. This FAQ will, however, give a ton of information on Lee for
Tekken 4 that cannot be found anywhere else. I will show you tips
and tricks behind Lee and my strategies as well as list his best
moves and describe how to use them.
Here I will go into detail explaining not all of Lee’s moves but
the ones I believe to be the most effective.
A. THROWS
1+3(u_d_b_f) Position Change
2+4 Wu Tip Escape by pressing 2
F+2+4 Neck Fracture Escape by pressing 2
f,f+3+4 Knee Driver Escape by pressing 1+2
2+4 (left side) Harassment Escape by pressing 1
2+4 (right side) Stunner Escape by pressing 2
2+4 (behind) Bulldog
These are all of Lee’s throws; as you can see, he does not have
very many. Therefore, use them all for a more stylish and tricky
Lee throw game. Lee’s knee driver requires tapping
forward, forward so that can be good or bad depending on the
situation, but notice that it is only escapable by hitting 1+2;
this is a good thing since his other two frontal throws are
simply escapable by pressing 2. Try side-stepping attacks so you
may use Lee’s side throws; they are more powerful and look cool.
The mist step is a Lee signature move, ironically with a Kazuya
signature name, that has been greatly improved upon in T4. Lee
crouch dashes forward covering more distance in a shorter amount
of time compared to tapping forward, forward. Furthermore, the
mist step goes under most high attacks. I will go into great
detail about the mist step later.
The Hitman Stance (HMS) is Lee’s signature stance where he leans
back in an intimidating fighting stance taunting the opponent to
make a move. There are a variety of moves and abilities that come
out of the HMS, making it a very useful stance when used
correctly. I will go into great detail about it later.
After section C, Special Moves, there is a section called B2,
Mist Step Moves, and B3, Hitman Stance Moves, where I will
explain the moves that can come out of the mist step and the HMS.
I felt that it was necessary to first simply explain what the
mist step and HMS are in this section, then explain Lee’s special
moves so you would know what I am talking about, then finally
explain the mist step and HMS moves.
The ol’ 1,2 is very fast and very effective. These two high
punches will poke opponents out of a lot of things they might be
trying. This is Lee’s most basic yet one of his most useful
attacks. Use it to set the opponent up, poke, juggle, or anything
you can basically think of. Furthermore, several interesting
things come after the 1,2. Use this a lot because it is very safe
to do.
1,2~f,N Double Punch to Mist Step high, high, mist step
This is a great new maneuver that Lee now has in T4. After two
high punches Lee dashes forward with the mist step. Until T4, Lee
has never been able to mist step straight after the 1,2. One
interesting thing you can do is 1,2~f,N 1,2~f,N over and over.
Lee will punch twice, mist step, punch twice, mist step, over and
over in one fluent, continuous motion. With that and all the
other abilities that can come after the mist step in mind, you
can see how this is a very nice feature introduced to T4. For
instance, after punching twice, mist step, here you can use any
mid or lowing hitting attack to trick the opponent with. Be
careful; if you do this too much the opponent will poke you out
of the mist step. Be wise and use this move meticulously.
I will go into greater detail of mist step strategies later in
the FAQ.
1,2>4 Double Punch to Violet Kick high, high, mid
=3 HMS
In T4, Lee can now add a kick to his 1,2 making for a more
interesting mix of hand and feet combinations. Lee throws two
quick high punches and a mid hitting front kick that will nail
crouching opponents. If the two punches connect, the kick is
guaranteed. Why settle with just poking someone with 1 when you
can connect an entire 1,2>4? I win entire matches by just using
this move. I wait for the opponent to make a mistake by throwing
the wrong attack, then I counter with this three hit combo. The
kick somewhat pushes your opponent away from you. So if you want
a little distance then use this. If you want to stay in the
opponent’s face then substitute the 4 for another 2. It is the
exact same strength, is also guaranteed, but keeps you in the
opponent’s face. You can use this new handy little combo as much
as you want.
After the 4 in 1,2>4 you can hit 3 and Lee will go into the HMS
after executing the kick. I will go into great detail of HMS
strategies later in this FAQ.
1,F+2,2>2 Violet Knuckle Combo high,high,mid,high
This is one his oldest moves, Lee throws a nice, fast combination
of fists. This is more powerful than the 1,2>4 but the last 2 in
this is not guaranteed; the opponent can duck under the last
punch. However, most players do not think to duck under the last
one so use the last punch if you think they don’t know any
better. The third punch hits mid, so if the opponent is ducking
he will be hit by it. Use this as a fast counter or to push the
opponent into the wall. This is a good move, but not one of his
best, so no need to use this move a whole lot.
d/f+2 Right Upper mid
Lee throws a simple right uppercut. This is your average uppercut
that can, but not always, launch the opponent for a juggle. Use
this when you are right in the opponent’s face because if it
misses you will be punished. I use this a good bit.
d/f+1,2,2,1 10-String Starter mid,high,mid,high
Lee uppercuts and continues with a combo of punches. This is not
listed as a move but rather it is the start of his age old 10-
string. It is listed here because this can be used effectively.
It is a fast, closed-ranged combo that does decent damage. The
real thing I like about this is that the first hit is mid, it is
Lee’s only punch combo that starts mid. So you can use this on
crouching opponents. I do not seem to find the moment to use this
very often, but when I do I take full advantage of this move.
b+1,1 Fang Rush high,mid
=2 Triple Fang high
=~f,N Mist Step
=3+4 HMS
This now classic move is one of Lee’s greatest and is now
improved even more in T4. Lee takes two great steps forward while
throwing two backfists, the first high and the second mid. The
beauty of this move is that it is a great way to get in your
opponent’s face. Lee covers a great distance with this move and
it is safe to use due to great recovery and the second mid
hitting backfist (they cannot duck under it). I do not suggest
ending this with the high hitting 2 because I believe it is more
worthwhile to use this for other reasons. One of these reasons
simply being to be right in your opponent’s face. The other
reasons being to go into the mist step, which is a new option in
T4, or the HMS, which I will explain later. After doing the two
backfists, you can continue the offense with other punch combos
such as the 1,2>4. I use the fang rush a lot often basing my
whole plan of attack around it.
f+4 Silver Whip high
This evil looking kick is back from Tekken Tag Tournament. Lee
throws a front snap kick at blinding speed. This is a very fast
yet very weak kick. It only does 7 for damage, but look at it
this way; this kick is so fast that it is a good bet that this
move will succeed a lot. Now multiply 7 by the number of times
you successfully hit the opponent with this move. When the fight
is over for me the damage I have done with this kick alone is
usually somewhere around 70; you get my point. I throw this in
every now and then throughout the fight. An old trick is to throw
two or three in a row because the opponent will often try to rush
forward after you do this kick thinking you will not do another.
Beware though, this hits high so the opponent can simply duck
under it and poke you. Use this kick in moderation.
4,3 Shaolin Spin Kicks high
=4 Shaolin Spin Kick high
=3 Violet Spin Hammer mid
This is a very old move of Lee’s, but now in T4 it comes packed
with a new twist. Lee throws his usual Law-style spin round kicks
but now with the option of ending it with a Lee-style hammer
kick. Great move because if the 4 connects then the 3 is a sure
thing. NEVER end the 4,3 with another 4. That kick is not
guaranteed, hits high, so the opponent can simply duck under it
and you will be punished. Instead, you may want to use the mid
hitting 3 at the end. It is not guaranteed, but when blocked will
somewhat stun the opponent and you will be totally safe. This is
a great move to juggle with if you cannot perform Lee’s move
beautiful juggle (which I will explain later). Use this move a
lot because it is one of Lee’s best damage dishers.
b+3 Mist Wolf Kick mid
=>3 Mist Wolf Kick Combo mid
=~4 HMS
This was one of my favorite moves for Lee in Tekken Tag
Tournament and continues to be a favorite of mine, though it is
severely underrated. Lee’s mist wolf kick is a mid hitting front
kick that can be followed by a same leg round kick. The mist wolf
kick is awesome. It hits mid and does great damage. If it
connects, add another 3 for the mist wolf kick combo; it is
guaranteed and makes for one of Lee’s top damaging moves of all.
Because of Lee’s lack of power moves this is one you should use
often. If the first kick is blocked or missed, you can lure the
opponent in by delaying the second kick and he will eat it if he
takes the bait. A new feature in T4 is the ability to go into the
HMS after the first kick by hitting 4, but I only recommend that
if the first kick was blocked or missed. Use this a lot. However,
be careful with the range. If you are too far away the second
kick will miss, and if you are too close you will find that you
will not be able to execute the first kick before getting hit
with a punch. Use this move when in the appropriate distance.
WS+3,3 Tsunami Kick mid,mid
=d/f+3 Step in Kick mid
=D+3,3 Silver Low to Mid Kick low,mid
My absolute favorite move. The infamous infinity starter is back.
Lee stands up with a rising front kick and comes down with a same
leg axe kick followed by either a low kick or mid kick. It is
Lee’s most damaging move of all, besides unblockables, and can
lead to more kicks. It is so easy to lure an opponent into you
and nail him with this move and it seems like the tsunami kick
will execute even while the opponent is doing any of most
abilities; it is because of that that this move becomes even
better as a counter attack. Let’s say that I do a simple
crouching jab. I will stay crouched, the opponent will try
something, and I do the tsunami kick and it usually catches the
opponent for a counter hit. Once you are caught in this move you
are vulnerable to what comes next.
I have learned, despite what others have said, that any third
kick after the tsunami kick is NOT guaranteed. This is why you
must mix it up with the next kick being either low or mid. If you
chose low and it hits, then you will be guaranteed another mid
hitting 3, though sometimes the opponent is just a bit too far
away for it to reach so be wary. The WS+3,3,D+3,3 is Lee’s most
powerful attack of all and when you use the low kick sparingly it
is very likely to succeed.
When the opponent is against a wall, you might consider
continuing the infinite combo with even more kicks. It is very
hard for your opponent to side step when he is getting pummeled
into the wall with this infinity.
Always keep this move in your mind and try to spot every chance
you get to pull this off because it is your most powerful attack.
This is the classic Paul-style shredder. Lee jumps forward
launching two front kicks. Good move to come into the opponent
with when far away. When blocked you can trick the opponent by
either using the low or mid hitting kick. If the first two kicks
connect, do not use the third kick. Instead, use Lee’s juggle
because the opponent will be launched. I would say use this a lot
because you have a 50% chance of tricking the opponent with the
third kick if he blocked the first two, but on some occasions I
have been hit after the first two kicks and was not able to
continue with the third.
u/f+4 Violet Knee mid
I love this move! This is a brand new T4 move that seems to fit
Lee’s style perfectly. Lee leaps off his back leg smashing his
knee into the opponent, which will send them flying. It is one of
my new favorite moves with Lee. It hits mid, has great recovery
if blocked, decent range, decent damage, goes right through most
punches like they are not there, and launches the opponent right
in front of you begging for you to do juggles. The other option
is the U/F+4 hopping front kick, which has more range but you
will pay dearly if that is blocked. Besides, the knee does
slightly more damage and looks much cooler.
d,d/b+4 Blazing Kick mid
This move is back and still holds a warm fuzzy spot in my heart.
Lee thrusts his leg straight up sending his opponent sky high,
literally. A very good mid hitting kick. Do not just shoot this
move off because it has slow animation and can easily be blocked.
Instead let the opponent walk right into this move or predict
that the opponent is just about to do something and he will go
flying into the air. You can do most juggles of your choosing as
he is coming down, but I will may a recommendation. Use the
dazzling 4,u+3; it is a kick and a somersault that hits the
opponent as he is coming down from the blazing kick. A beautiful
display of destruction if ever there was. Note the level you are
on; if you are in the airport or the underground level then
expect the opponent to hit the ceiling for additional damage.
This will cause him to come down faster, which means you should
be ready to juggle a lot sooner. Destructively beautiful indeed.
Use this move as much as you want, but you better make sure it
hits because the downside to this move is that if it is blocked
then you will be in trouble.
d/b+3 Slice Kick low
Lee deceptively circles his leg with a shin hitting low round
kick. A great low kick with good strength. Beware though, you
don’t want to use this same kick too much. They will eventually
learn to see the animation, but that is why you should use all of
Lee’s other low kicks. Throw this in a few times here and there
to constantly peck away at the opponent’s life. You can also use
this move when the opponent is knocked down.
d+4 Low Kick low
=4,4,4 Laser Edge low,low,mid
Lee executes three crippling low sidekicks and finishes off with
a mid hitting kick. I dislike the laser edge. It is the oldest
and most overused move of all and is insanely easy to block,
parry, or even reverse. The only thing that might work is if you
mess around with the timing of the combo by delaying different
kicks to confuse the opponent. So why did I put this in here?
Really it is because I love the simple d+4. You really should
throw this low kick a lot in the fight to frustrate the opponent
and peck away at his life. It is very fast so you can count on it
hitting. Use it as much as you feel.
d,d/f+4 or WC,D/F+4 Silver Tail low
Lee executes a spinning low sweep kick with great range and
speed. Another great low hitting kick; does nice damage and has
great range. The opponent never seems to block this; I guess it
is because they are not used to getting hit low so much. One
thing that always seems to trick them is to do this move twice in
a row. This is also good for hitting the opponent while he is
down and just a tad too far away to reach.
3>3 Head Kick to Violet Hammer high, mid
Lee throws a kick to the face, then comes down with a same leg
axe kick. Not the best move, but it does good damage and the
second kick hits mid. The reason that it is not one of his best
is because the second kick is only guaranteed if the first was a
counter hit. So use this move from long range as the opponent is
charging into you. I use this move a lot to tame my opponent.
d+3,3>3 Silver Low to Head Kick to Violet Hammer low, high, mid
This is the exact same as the move above but it starts with a low
kick. This does more damage due to a third kick and should be
used as a counter hit when the enemy is close to you but not in
your face.
b+4 Silver Heel mid
=~3 HMS
Lee spins around with a spin heel kick. This isn’t that a bad of
a move actually. It hits mid, does decent damage and you can go
into the hit man stance right after it. The only problem with it
is that it is very slow and you are likely to get nailed, but if
you time it right you will get some nice damage and/or if he
blocks it you can get him with an HMS move. I use this every now
and then.
4,u+3 Roundhouse to Somersault high,mid
Lee throws a round kick then follows up with a somersault attack.
When you throw the first kick, it is often likely that the
opponent will think that that is all there is and walk right into
the somersault. That’s really all I have to say about this move
other than it looks cool. I do not use this move much but it does
work if I throw it in here and there.
b,b+4 Violet Cutter high
=~3 HMS
Lee spins coming around with a hook kick to the opponent’s face
knocking them off their feet. I only use this slow, high hitting
move when I know it will hit because I will follow up with
pressing 3 to go into HMS then hitting 4 for a low sweeping kick
that hits the now grounded opponent. This is just something I
like to use every once in a while, but I wouldn’t miss this move
if I never used it again, just like the move I mentioned above.
f,f,N+3+4 Delayed Dragon Slide low
FC,d/f,d,d/f+3 Dragon Slide low
Lee slides forward knocking the opponent off his feet. The dragon
slide is much better than the delayed dragon slide. Do this while
crouching and there is a good chance that you will knock the
opponent off his feet. However, you may find this move unreliable
due to the fact that it is hard to do on the joy stick, and if
this move is blocked you will probably get pecked with a low
kick. After the slide, you may be tempted to do a spinning low
kick to the grounded opponent. However, know that that will not
be guaranteed. Instead, mix it up with the getting up mid and low
kick. I use this move about as much as I use the above two moves.
SS+1+2 Schwartz Rose Hook mid
Now let’s talk about side stepping moves; this is a brand new T4
side stepping move for Lee. Lee comes out of his side step with a
fierce cross attack with his hands. This move looks cool, and
hits mid. Very safe to do so use it a lot while side stepping.
SS+2 Rear Cross Punch high
=~f,N Mist Step
Lee side steps and throws a quick hook. He had this move in
Tekken Tag Tournament, but now in T4 you have the awesome option
of mist stepping right after it. I only recommend doing this move
if you plan on going into the mist step through it. This hits
high so it is best done when you have just side stepped an
opponent’s attack. The hook is fast and you will flow right into
the mist step; I use this a good bit.
SSR+3 Left Violet Screw
=~4 HMS
SSL+4 Right Violet Screw
=~3 HMS
Very powerful kick though a little slow. Use this wisely and
opponents will be eating this. If they block it then you may find
that it is a good idea to go into the HMS, which is yet another
new option in T4. The right screw is more powerful than the left
so keep that in mind. I use this a lot.
b,b,N+3+4 Backflip Handspring
Lee does a nice evasive backflip away from the opponent. This
isn’t that bad of a maneuver. Doing this will allow Lee to get
away faster and farther than tapping back twice. So it can be
effective and looks very stylish.
b,b,u/b Wall Jump
Lee leaps off a nearby wall. When you are against a wall try this
to do a pretty cool flip off of it. Reminds me of the Matrix
actually.
These are special moves that I don’t believe belong in the above
list. The reason being because they are not all that effective
but I felt they should be mentioned because they look so cool and
can add a lot of fun and style to your Lee. So the following
moves simply look cool and in some ways can be effective.
1,3:3:3 Acid Rain Combo high,high,mid,high
f+3:3:3 Acid Rain Combo high,mid,high
A brand new move in T4, with the option of throwing or not
throwing a lead jab, Lee executes a quick lead leg strategy round
kick hitting high, then middle, and then high. This is a very
cool looking move but not worth the effort. This is a just frame
button sequence, meaning you have to hit the right button at the
exact right frame. If you can pull this off once you are one
lucky sob, if you can do it every now and then you are not bad,
if you can do it consistently then you are very good. Try using
this in a fight and if you pull any or all of the kicks it will
look very cool.
b+3~3:4 Mist Wolf Trap mid
Lee throws a fake low round kick and instead strikes with a mid
round kick. If it hits the opponent, that’s great, but if he
blocks it you can hit 4 at the exact right frame and Lee will
flip, kicking the opponent with his other leg that will connect
whether they are blocking or not. In this sense it is a
guaranteed hit that they cannot avoid. However, this is a just
frame and it is very hard to get it right. Plus, the low fake
kick takes too much time and you will be poked out of it, but if
you do pull this off then you will hear some oohs and ahhs from
the people watching you.
u/f+3+4 Silver Sting high
Lee leaps in the air performing a flying spin sidekick. This move
isn’t so bad really, but if the opponent blocks it or simply
ducks under it you will be in trouble. It does good damage, so
try to anticipate when to use this move on the opponent and be
sure that it will hit. I wonder if this deserves to go in the
above section with all the other more useful moves.
FC,(u/b_u_u/f)+4 Quick Catapult mid
=3 HMS
FC,(U/B_U_U/F)+3+4 Rainbow Kick mid,mid
Lee leaps up and forward spinning completely around either
striking as he is going up with the quick catapult or as he is
coming down with the rainbow kick. Not a whole lot I can say
about these moves. These add a couple more moves you can choose
from while crouching. Try using the Quick catapult when the
opponent missing you with a high attack, you can go into the HMS
afterward but I would not recommend it. As for the rainbow kick,
sometimes when you are at the right distance you will actually go
behind the opponent and hit him from behind. Don’t use these too
much.
4,4,4 Machine Gun Kicks high,high,high
Lee throws three insanely fast high round kicks. It’s not that
this move is bad in any means, it’s actually quite good. The
problem is that the 4,3 Shaolin spin kicks serves the exact same
purpose but does more damage and can follow up with another mid
hitting kick. So I only use this move because it looks cool.
d/f+1,2,2,1,3,3,3,4,3,4 10-String
Lee executes his one and only 10 hit combo. This move has been
done to death. It is such an old 10-string that almost everybody
knows how to block this. However, surprisingly there are still
those who will get hit by the low kick and eat the rest of the
combo. So if you want to use this, be my guest.
d+3+4 Silver Cyclone
Lee charges with blue energy and leaps forward with a spinning
kick. This unblockable is easily avoided by simply crouching.
Pretty worthless but it looks cool.
d/b+1+2 Silver Demon Fist
=u,u
Lee charges his fists with blue energy and he rushes forward with
a mid hitting strike. A better unblockable that is not quite as
easy to avoid. However, it is still a piece of cake to hit Lee
while he is charging so don’t be surprised if you are punished
for trying to use this. If the opponent is against a wall and you
are just far enough to use this, then try it because there is a
great chance it will hit. Cancel it with u,u if you have to.
Know these moves and love them because they will add a great deal
to your Lee game.
f,N Mist Step
Lee’s mist step is a great maneuver ability. Tap forward and Lee
crouch dashes forward going under most high attacks. You can
cancel the mist step while you are in it by performing any of
Lee’s moves as if you were standing up. In T4 Lee now has several
more options to choose from after the mist step.
f,N,3,4 Mist Step to Soviet Kick Combo
Brand new to T4, Lee will come out of the mist step performing a
shredder-like kick combo. Both kicks hit mid and will launch the
opponent for Lee’s beautiful new juggle (explained later). The
downside to this move is that you will be open if the opponent
blocks this move so use this move wisely.
f,N,b,N Violet Sway
=4 Code Red Low
Another brand new T4, Lee does the mist step then sways back in
Steve-like fashion, you then have the option to throw a low kick.
I won’t say that this isn’t useful because it can be, but it is
not a move I use often because that is a lot of moving around
without actually covering very much space leaving you wide open
for an attack. If you hit 4 after the sway back you will perform
the Code Red Low which is a low kick that is very obvious if the
opponent has seen before a few times.
f,N,b+3+4 Mist Step to Hitman Stance (HMS)
And yet another new T4 option (like I said, he gets the award for
most improved character), Lee will mist step then go straight
into the Hitman Stance which causes most high attacks to miss
allowing Lee to use any of his HMS arts. This is an interesting
and useful way to go into the HMS. For instance, you can hit
1,2~f,N,b+3+4; Lee will throw two punches, mist step forward, and
go straight into the HMS for you to do any HMS move.
Just like the above mist step moves, you need to learn these and
know these for a better Lee game. Some say that the HMS is
worthless, though I like to prove them wrong by punishing them
while in this stance. You can dodge a lot of high hitting attacks
while in this stance.
3+4 Hitman stance
This is the basic way to go into the HMS, and the way I do not
recommend. Look at the moves in the sections above to find out
how to go straight into the HMS through other moves, which is how
I recommend doing it. The following moves can only be done while
in the hit man stance.
1,4 Fake Freaker to Violet Kick
=~3 HMS
Lee throws a fake punch then a mid kick. Great move, this gets a
lot of people and if you hit 3 you will go right back into the
HMS to wreak more HMS havoc on your opponent.
2 Scatter Blow
Lee spins around giving a power backfist that sends the opponent
flying. This is pretty fast and hits mid, so you can use it on
crouching opponents. Follow up by hitting U/F+3+4 and Lee will
fly into the air with a jumping spin sidekick that will crush the
opponent on his way down. This is my favorite move to do. It
looks so cool it makes me cry. Well, not really but it is a VERY
cool move that will get some oohs and ahhs from people watching.
4 Ship Slicer
Lee spins around executing a low sweeping kick. This is very slow
and easy to spot, so only do this sweep when the opponent is
trying something funny. You will most likely go under his attack.
Follow up with a WS+3,3 tsunami kick that connects for a very
damaging attack.
Moving while in the HMS:
You can move around a little more in T4 than you could in TTT
while in the HMS. Tap f to take a step forward. Hold U or D to
sidestep walk. Tap u or d for a quick side step. Tap back to go
back to standing. However, if you have to move around while you
are in the HMS then I think you are not using the HMS very
effectively. I will explain a little later how I use the HMS.
I have been talking about it throughout this FAQ and here it is.
Launch an opponent with either a d/f+2 (though this will not
always launch), u/f+4, U/F+4, f,N+3,4 or d,d/b+4 then do this
juggle. The juggle is...
1,2~f,N 1,2~f,N 1,2~f,N~3,4
When the opponent is floating in the air from a juggle Lee will
punch twice, mist step forward, punch twice, mist step forward,
punch twice, mist step forward, and finish off with the soviet
kick combo; only the second kick of the soviet kick combo will
connect. The first time I did this juggle to someone he watched
as he was getting tossed around like a rag doll and said to
himself, “shiiiiiit”. Over the course of this long juggle the
opponent’s body will continue to be tossed around in the air for
quite some time. It is very frustrating to be caught in this
juggle and have no ability to do anything about it, but it feels
very good when you are the one doing this juggle to someone else.
:)
This juggle is just a little hard to get used to so I will help
out. Punch twice and tap forward, wait just a moment then punch
twice when you know it will connect and tap forward again. If you
punch too soon after the mist step it will miss. So time it just
right. Do this one more time then finish off with the kick combo,
which should be done immediately after the third mist step.
Lee is very fast with a lot of fast moves and tricky combos. I
use Lee by being very aggressive by pressing the offense and
holding up every now and then to trap the opponent in one of
various traps such as the WS+3,3 or the b+3 and what comes after
those. Mix it up with high, low and mid techniques. Do not
neglect the low kicks; use them a lot. Above all else you will
learn to know what move to use when.
Side stepping is your friend. Lee now has a lot of good moves to
use while sidestepping, some of which can be followed up with the
mist step or the HMS. Use them all for a more effective Lee. It
would have been nice if Lee had a low hitting side step move, but
oh well.
Use the HMS wisely. I never just go into the HMS; I only use it
after the moves that allow you do go straight into it. Execute a
move immediately after you are in the HMS. You do not want to
stay in this stance for more than you have to. I will give an
example. Press b+1,1~3+4>2. Lee will strike with the fang rush,
go into the HMS then immediately go straight out of it with the
scatter blow. Another example would be 1,2>4~3>1~4~3>2. Lee will
do the double punch to kick, go straight into the HMS, go
straight out of it with a kick, go right back into the HMS and
finally go immediately out of it with a scatter blow.
Do not be foolish with the mist step. You should know when you
will get nailed by a mid or low hitting attack while in the mist
step so don’t use it all the time. You have a bag of tricks to
use after coming out of the mist step. As you come out of the
mist step you can use most any high, mid or low attack you could
normally use while standing. Also be sure to come out of the mist
step with a throw; that works very well.
Don’t forget the position change throw. Use it to place the
opponent against that nearby wall and continue to pummel him.
Above all else, be cool. Seriously, have fun with Lee and use the
flashiest stuff. You might waste your quarter but you will look
stylish while doing it. Characters like Steve and Marduk just
don’t have the style that Lee, Lei, and Ling have. They need to
lighten up I guess, heh.
VII. SPECIAL THANKS
Thanks to the website that is Tekken Zaibatsu. It’s an all around
great site with move lists for every character. I used the names
of Lee’s abilities that are from this site, like most everybody
else does as well. Thanks to Namco for making this classic of a
series called Tekken, even though we all know they only did it to
make money, lol. Thanks to CJayC, whoever you are, for making the
great game site that is GameFAQs. If anyone is able to go to this
website then strategy guides are pretty much obsolete. Waste your
money if you want on the “official” strategy guide, but if you
want real information and ALL the information about a game go to
this website.
