Welcome to my Worldskill FAQ for a great game with (Sadly) little attention,
Anachronox. In this guide, I explain each character's Worldskill, and how to
attain their Master Worldskills. I hope you enjoy it.
A. SYLVERSTER "SLY" BOOTS
-------------------------
Worldskill - LOCK PICK
Description: Boots' Worldskill Lock Pick can be used to open various locked
doors or chests throughout the universe. If you click on a door and the
message "Seems Interesting" appears, that is a sign that the lock needs to
be picked in order to be opened.
How to Use: When you attempt to pick a lock, a little minigame will appear that
you need to complete in order to open the door. The objective of the game is
to find the right combination of numbers before the time limit runs out. When
you push the space bar, a little meter on the lock pick will tell you how close
you are to the correct number in that slot. If it is just a little bit off of
the top level, it's either one more or one less than the number you just
checked. If it's just below the bottom, it's 5 more or 5 less than the number
you just tried. I know it sounds a bit confusing, but after a few tries it
becomes a cakewalk.
Master Lock Pick Location: Boots Master Lock Pick skill is attained by aiding
Detective Rukh in the Red Light District on Sender Station. After visiting
Hephaestus, return to Sender Station and head back to the Red Light District.
When you talk to Rukh there, he'll tell you that he's looking for a Tetra
dealer, and he needs your help. You can start by talking to Kevester in
Slutopia, or you can go to the Cold Sweat Sex Machine and talk to the bartender
there. The bartender will tell you to go back to Slutopia. Ask around there,
and report back to Rukh with your findings and he'll reward you with the Master
Lock Pick.
What's Different?: You've probably found some locks around the game with 5
numbers to find, and only 10 seconds to do it - An impossible feat. The Master
Lock Pick, however, provides you with a little gimmick to bypass this. If
you'll look at the lockpick screen after attaining the Master level, you should
see a new button on the lockpick. Push this, and it will reset the clock to 10
seconds. It has unlimited uses, so you can take all the time in the world to
solve a lock as long as you reset the clock before it reaches 0.
B. PAL-18
---------
Worldskill - COMPTALK
Description: PAL's Comptalk is used to access various computer input devices
scattered throughout the game. They all look alike - White squares with an
orange and yellow pyramid shape on them, and they always near
ground level. By activating these, PAL can access security computers or open
hidden doors.
How to Use: PAL's minigame consists of trying to make a pathway on a computer
circuit using a set type of formations, as well as avoiding damaged circuits
and holes. If you look very closely at the circuit, you can see which squares
are damaged before you reached them; damaged squares have a few holes in them.
By seeing this and avoiding these squares, you can save some precious time
while attempting these puzzles.
Master Comptalk Location: On Anachronox, inside the Anachronox Tours building.
As soon as you enter, you'll see a weird looking robot/alien hybrid with a
spacesuit-like dome over his head (You'll know you have the right guy if he
says "Enslaver." to anyone but PAL). Make PAL the leader of the party
and talk to this creature to learn PAL's Master Comptalk.
What's Different?: You may have seen some nodes throughout the game that
are impossible to complete with the original 3 pathways the game provides you.
Learning the Master Comptalk provides you with 3 more pathways, making 6,
ensuring that no node is impossible for PAL.
C. GRUMPOS MATAVASTROS
----------------------
Worldskill - YAMMER
Description: Grumpos uses his Yammer ability to overwhelm stubborn NPC's with
an overload of babbling that drives them nuts. There are no set places to use
it, but you can usually tell if it's necessary when an NPC refuses to do
something (Such as the man in front of the ticket computer in Anachronox
Tours) or people who say things along the lines of "You'll never convince me
to...", etc.
How to Use: Grumpos needs a lot of air for his yammering, so you'll need to
help him fill up his lungs in the Yammer Skill minigame. When you attempt to
use the skill, a small screen will appear with a picture of two lungs. When
one of them starts to expand, rapidly tap the corresponding arrow key (Or you
can click on the arrow on the game screen, but I found the keyboard to work
faster) until it stops expanding. Repeat this process until the red bar on the
left hand side fills up, and then enjoy Grumpos humorous rambling.
Master Yammer Location: After the destruction of Sunder, return to Sender
Station and look for a man dressed in red robes. If you talk to him, he will
refuse to sell his valuable MysTech to you, and says that there's no way to
convince him otherwise. Sounds like a textbook Yammer opportunity to me! Bring
Grumpos there and use the Yammer skill on the man. After successfully
completing it, you'll find out that this man knows more about the art of
yammering than even Grumpos, and he will share his knowledge of the trade
with Grumpos, granting him the Master Yammer Worldskill.
What's Different?: Some Yammer victims require Grumpos to fill both lungs at
once, which is impossible without the Master Worldskill. I don't think it's
possible to do this with the keyboard, so if you see both lungs expanding,
click the corresponding button in the game instead (It should look something
like <-->).
D. DR. RHO BOWMAN
-----------------
Worldskill - ANALYZE
Description: Rho can use her analyze skill on various computers and tomes in
the game. If you find some sort of strange device that gives you the "Seems
Interesting" response, it is probably a job for the good doctor to come in
and analyze that sucker.
How to Use: The Analyze puzzle is simple, but fun. The game gives you a symbol
with a color, and you have to use the various "switch" things to change it to
the right symbol and the right color. I found it easier to tackle one at a
time; I'd utilize all the symbol changers until I got the right symbol, and
then do the same with the color symbols.
Master Analyze Location: When you're on Sender Station, you'll find a
scientist inside the hotel who is seeking love (Which you can arrange for a
ticket to Sunder). Later in the game, if you revisit him with Rho, he will
teach her the Master Analyze skill.

E. DEMOCRATUS
-------------
Worldskill - TRACTOR
Description: The High Council of Democratus can use the tractor beam to reach
distant, unreachable objects. It can also be used to pick up the Kraptonite
crystals necessary for Paco's Bouge Skills (Other characters will say the
crystal is too hot).
How to Use: Using Democratus' Tractor Beam brings up a screen with 7 members
of the High Council. You control the eighth member, and you must click on all
the council members who rise up to argue against the use of the Tractor Beam.
If you are overwhelmed, you can click the "Call Recess" button at the bottom
for a short break, but it can only be used once per attempt.
Master Tractor Location: If you revisit Anachronox, you'll find a Democratus
citizen to the left of the desk in Frank's Flophouse. Talk to him with
Democratus and he will teach you the Master level Tractor.
What's Different?: Coming soon.
E. STILETTO ANYWAY
------------------
Worldskill - THROW LOONIE
Description: Stiletto's skill involves throwing a Loonie coin to hit distant
buttons. Yeah, it's kind of stupid, I know. I never found a use for it other
than once, in Detta's Fortress.
How to Use: You have to push the spacebar to stop each of the four circles
when it is perfectly aligned with the square. And I mean, PERFECTLY. The game
doesn't cut you any slack when it comes to this skill, which is why I rarely
use it.
Master Throw Loonie Location: After you successfully defend Limbus from the
Dark Servants, you'll encounter a guy by the fountain who tells you something
like "Bring me the woman with steel blood and weapons. I can teach her." Do
what he says, and talk to him with Stiletto, and he will teach her the Master
Throw Loonie! What a prestigious skill to teach someone!
What's Different?: Coming soon.
F. PACO ESTRELLA
----------------
Worldskill - RAGEMIGHT
Description: After years of retirement and booze, Paco has lost the ability to
focus his rage, so you have to help him. You can use his rage on certain
objects in order to break them. I'm pretty sure you can also use it to smash
open locked doors, if Boots is not in your party.
How to Use: Simple, really. You have to keep the fist symbol inside the circle
until the bar on the left is full. It starts of easy, but the further you go,
the harder it is to focus Paco's rage. Try as hard as you can to keep it in
the circle as long as possible, and you should complete the minigame.
Master Ragemight Location: To find Paco's Master Worldskill, you have to go to
Hephaestus with Paco in your party. While travelling through the slums to the
Entertainment District, you should see a house fairly high above you. Travel
up there, and pick the lock to enter the home of Mr. and Mrs. Invisiblus. Talk
to Mrs. Invisiblus with Paco, and she'll teach him his master skill, as well
as give him an invitation to come back and..."chat" when Mr. Invisiblus is on
the graveyard shift ;).
