Welcome to this faq/walkthrough on Arc the Lad III.
Unless you have a Japanese Playstation, codes will be required to play this
game. The unlock code(thanks to asian code centre)is 2 lines and is as
follows:

Some controls to be aware of are that the square and triange buttons bring up
the main menu which has the following options:
item
equip
status
rearrange characters?
event list
Note: The added choice of looking at your inventory of recruited monsters will
be added.
Holding down the R1 button while you move will make your character run.
After the opening scenes, the main character Alec and Ruts will be in your
party. Keep in mind that Ruts has a knife weapon that can attack from 2
squares away on the battle grid. You must first go to the Tode Bridge, win
the battle and cross over. Head over to Iteo Town. Here, you can buy a new
sword for Alec, an Iron Knife for Ruts, and new armor. To move forward, go to
the Guild in the upper-left corner of town. After some scenes, you will be
back in the first village. Do some talking, including that in Ruts house.
Once you automatically leave town, you are done here. Go back to the Guild in
Iteo. Choose the first option and you will have your first mission as a
hunter. Before you do this, you can partake in the optional quests of killing
the wanted monsters. There are six of them in this guild and they are as
follows:
Slime-at the Tode bridge
Plant-northernmost field
rabbit-same place as plant
dragon fly-southernmost field by the stream
blue slime-field just south of the cave by the waterfall
zombie-same place as the zombie
After you kill these "wanted" monsters that randomly appear, you can return to
the Guild and choose the 3rd option to collect your cash and gain your
GP's(guild points that raise your rank as a hunter).
The first event has you going to the cave by the waterfall to fight the boss
Tengalon. When you get to him he has about 155 HP's. Remember to not allow
your characters get side by side because the bosses's gun attack can hurt them
both at once. Try using Alec's Freezering spell to paralyze him. After you
win, return to the Guild and choose the 3rd option to record it and collect
the points. This will be repeated after every Guild event is finished. In
event 2, you must go to the middle house(or thereabouts) of town. Watch the
scene and then you will be asked to catch mice. Follow their movement through
the cardboard boxes and you should have no trouble. Next is event 3. First
go to the item shop and speak to the shopkeeper for some talking between your
characters. Then go to the Kiska field followed by the southernmost
place(Rukai River) and you'll meet Jay. Go to the town's shop and buy the
first item for $50 and the vest that costs $70. Take these items to Jay and
you are done with task #3. Choose task 4 and then go to the building in town
you the arrow is pointing to. Solve a simple puzzle inside and you are done
with task 4. Choose task 5 and then the events for this task will follow
automatically. Once done here, choose task 6. For task 6 you must first go
to the inn keeper. He will give you a trunk. Then exit out of town on the
southwest side to get to the wharf. Talk to the guy there then head back into
town. Go to the bar and watch the scene. Following this you will be able to
take the boat into the new land. You still aren't finished with task
6,however. Inside the new town(Rino), go to one of the rooms on the second
floor of the inn. Then, go to the monster shop on the east side of town.
After the talking, you have completed task 6. Congratulations, you have
completed the first segment of this potentially very long game. Choose task 7
inside the guild to continue on with the game.
