Football Manager 2005
How To Play Online Guide
===========================================================================
Introduction
============
This guide is being created to allow the players of Football Manager 2005 to
play online against other people over the world. It has also been created as the
guide for it, which is in the manual, is very vague and some people can't
understand how to play so this should be a simple step-by-step guide for them to
follow so they can enjoy a network game with their friends.
If you find any errors in this guide please send me an email and I will update
the guide.

===========================================================================
Recommendation
==============
To play this game online I recommend that the people who participate in the
Game have a broadband Internet connection preferably 512K/b or greater.
I also recommend that you have the latest patch for this game, which you
Will find at
Www.sigames.com or www.thedugout.net
The latest patch is 5.0.5 and can be downloaded with a data update.
The data update will update the database so that the latest transfers are
In place when you start a new game.

===========================================================================
Creating A Network Game
===========================================================================
To create a network game, first you have to load up the game as normal with the
Leagues that you and the other participants have decided to play.

Once the game has loaded up you have to go into the preferences screen.
To get to this screen click on the options bar at the top right hand of
The screen, once you have done this click on preferences.

When in the preferences screen tick the box, which says 'run as server'
This will allow you to host the game between you and the other participants.
Once you have done this click on the options bar again and go to
'Game status' Screen.
On this screen you will find the I.P address, which you will give to the
Other people in the game.

===========================================================================
Joining A Network Game
===========================================================================

To join a network game, first you have to open up the game as normal.
When you have done this click on the network icon and this will take you to
another screen. On this screen on the bottom left hand corner there is a
Screen, which says 'Join Other Server'.

When you have done this you will be asked to input the I.P address which
The host has given you.
After you have done this it will bring up the screen where you are asked
To choose your team, do this as normal then you are connected to a network
Game.

===========================================================================
Online Options
===========================================================================
There are also a few options for online games, which the host can
Configure.

These options are Force Continue and Password.

The Force Continue Option allows you to force the other players to continue
With the game when a certain amount of the players in the game have
Clicked continue.

The Password Option does exactly what it says on the tin. It allows you to
password the game which means only the
People who have the password for the game will be able to join.

To enable the Force Continue Option all you have to do is tick the enable
Box.
To get to this box go into the preferences screen.

The options for Force Continue are to choose when Force Continue
Will become active and how long the users will have to play before they
Are forced to continue.

===========================================================================
Online Connection Problems
===========================================================================
Some users may suffer problems which may not allow them to connect to the hosts
computer or the hosts computer may not allow anyone else to connect to the game.
This could be down to several things the most common is probably your firewall
not allowing players to connect through it.
I will list step by step how to allow users to connect through a firewall, which
is installed on Windows XP Professional

1. Go to Control Panel. You can do this by clicking Start then clicking on
Control Panel which is on the right
2. When you are in Control Panel you will see Windows Firewall or Security
Center. Click whatever one it is you see.
3. When in Security Center click on Windows Firewall under manage security
settings. If you saw Windows Firewall double click it.
4. The window, which it brings up, will allow you to have people connect to
your computer if you are hosting the game. Click the bar which says
Exceptions. You can view here which programs are allow incoming
connections to your computer. If Football Manager 2005 is here tick the
box, which is next to it. If it is not look at step five.
5. Click Add Program if Football Manager isn't there and then go to C-
\Program Files\Sports Interactive\Football Manager 2005 in here click on
FM2005 When you have chosen the FM2005 file click on Ok then Click Ok to
apply the settings which you have changed.

If this doesn't help you please look at the Forums on SiGames.com and they
should be able to help you to solve you online problem issues.

Rules To Follow When Playing Online
===========================================================================
There are a few simple rules, which you should follow when playing an online
game.
These rules are-
1. Only buy a player if you are really interested in him. Don't buy a player
so one of the other participants can't get him then never play him.
2. Don't steal other users youth players. If you want one of the other
participants youth players ask them first and if they say no don't keep
annoying them about it or just take the player as the game host may kick
you out of the game.
3. Don't have large shortlists. This is annoying if each player has a large
shortlist it will slow the game down and will take longer to continue the
season.
4. Don't cheat! Don't use FM Scout or the Mind Compression editor.
5. Always stick to the time that you say you will be playing at, as it is
annoying when one person isn't online to continue the game.
