ROMANCING SAGA 3 MINI-FAQ
By Aivendil
Completed 12/27/97
The reason I wrote this is pretty much nothing but boredom. I've played this
game a while ago, and never beat it (the final boss... ugh), but since there's
like no RS3 info on the net, I decided to do the right thing, and help y'all
squareheads out. So here it is, comin' atcha, the ashram style - RS3 minifaq.
If I were you, I wouldn't ask me for anything that isn't in this faq, because I
really don't know much about the game... I don't know much Japanese either.
Any comments welcome at aivendil@hotmail.com

Q: How do you get through character intros?
A: A ) JULIAN
For some reason, many people choose him for the main character, so he'll be the
first one on this list ^^ Julian begins his game in a small house, I have no
idea where. There he meets Harid, Elen, Sarah, Thomas, and Monika who arrives
on her horse :)
After they introduce each other to themselves etc, etc, they decide to find
Michael.
You'll have to go through your first dungeon, which shouldn't be too hard.
There will be a bird-like boss at the end, but he's no match for our heroes ^^;
After beating the boss, your party will find Michael's camp. Michael meets
Monika, etc, etc. Harid leaves you, and now you're left with the party of five.
The second part of the plains will be a little longer. Eventually you shall get
to some snow town with cool music. Here you can switch to the world map for the
first time (press A ). If you talk to the villagers, a Cave will appear over
the village.
If you go north, you'll find the castle of Leonid, the good vampiress. Don't
even try to beat the castle at this point, you have no chance. After a while (I
believe it depends on the counter.. ? ), Leonid will transport you to Michael's
castle. Here we see the famous "Thank You" scene, where you can see all 8 main
characters for the first and last time.
I remember that Michael lets you walk around the castle and stuff. When you
find Monika, she'll ask you to take her outside the castle, but she's captured
by a monster. You'll be taken to a cave where you have to defeat a monster and
save Monika. You'll find the first supporting character in your game - the
Poet. Take him, it'll make the game a little easier. He leaves once you bring
Monika back.
Michael thanks you once more. Now you'll be asked to take Monika somewhere (or
so I believe). Anyway, you'll find yourself on a ship with Monika, her servants
and some sailors. Walk around the ship, and after a short time it will be
attacked by a bunch of monsters. Take Monika with you, grab some treasures,
fight an easy boss. Monika disappears, and Julian finds himself in another
town. See the next section to see what to do next.
B ) KATARINA
Her game is much different than anyone else's. It begins with Monika noticing
some spies in the throne room of Michael's castle in Loanu. She lets Katarina
know about it, and Monika leaves the castle through a secret passage. For some
reason she's back in a second... (you can tell I don't really understand this
scene ).
Suddenly, Katarina is locked up in a cell, but some cool dude rescues her. Soon
you see the "Thank You" scene. If I remember correctly, the next scene occurs
during the night outside the castle. An enemy disguises himself as Michael and
pretends to be interested in her. Katarina falls for the trick, and the enemy
gets whatever he wanted from her (not so sure about what that thing was ).The
next day, Katarina (finally in her ordinary clothes and punk hairdo ^^; ). is
banned from the castle, and cannot come back until she gets whatever the fake
Michael stole from her...
C ) HARID
Harid's game is pretty much like Michael's, but it begins with Harid's
flashback. Harid is looking for his friends (I think), in what used to be his
hometown (a wild guess again ). He finds a cute girl (or she finds him), and
the flashback is over :| Now his game's like Julian's until the party find the
Imperial Camp. Here, Harid leaves with Michael.
Michael, Harid and some officers of Michael's army are planning a war or
something. The scene switches to a hill with Harid and 4 of Michael's generals,
or so I believe. Talk to them to set your battle strategies, etc. if you choose
the first choice, you'll lead your army against an army of the bad guys (what
else ^^; ). The battle's up to you; fighting isn't hard, and it's lots of fun.
Once you win, Michael congratulates you, and you fight another battle.
After that, you find that Michael's castle is under attack. Go to the throne
room, and fight a monster there. Katarina joins you for the time of the battle.
It may be pretty hard, but I know you can make it! ^^
After the battle, you see the Thank You scene, Michael says farewell to Harid,
and Harid's intro is over.
D) THOMAS
Thomas's intro will be pretty much the same as Julian's, but after he gets to
Loanu, he has a long conversation with some old dude, then he's on his own.
E) MICHAEL
You begin the game in your camp, when the other heroes arrive. Harid stays with
you, and you have to win a
battle on a hill (or something). Eventually, Michael's castle is attacked, and
you have to fight your way to the
Throne Room. There will be a relatively hard boss over there (Katarina joins
you for the time of the battle).
F) Sarah's intro is pretty much like Julian's, I don't remember any details...
I haven't played other intros, sorry...
Q: What do I do next?
A: Your choice. You can do pretty much whatever you want, but some events are
harder than others, and some cannot be completed unless your party's HP level
is high enough, or some other events are completed. Anyway, I recommend staying
away from the Abyss Keepers until your party's real strong. There's plenty of
events you can do before you decide to close the Abyss Gates. Try beating
treasure caves (there's plenty), finding new characters, etc. Have fun.
Q: How do I get through Leonid's castle? It's so hard!!!
A: *WAIT*. That dungeon is really hard. It took me 30 hours to get strong
enough to beat it... You may think
you're strong enough to beat the castle at first, but there's a really tough
monster at the end... But it's worth the
pain. Leonid's a kickass character.
Q: How do I get The Ice Sword?
A: Okay, this is fun...
Go to the village next to Lance ( if it's not on the map, talk to the people in
Lance. If Lance's not on the map, talk to everybody else ^^; ). There should be
a wierd-looking man with sun-glasses walking around. If you already have 6
people in your party, he'll just say "yo". If you have less than 6, "Mr. Yo" ,
or Wood will ask you do do a favor for him (I'm not too sure what that is ).
He'll join you (he's a pretty strong character too ), and a new location will
show up on the map - The Ice Lake. It's not very long (but then again, is there
a long dungeon in RS3, besides Maoh no Shiro? ). One tip: Stay *away* from the
fishes that jump out of water, they're impossible. You'll fight a fish-boss at
the end, and the Ice Lake event is completed. If you want Wood back in your
party, just talk to him, he'll rejoin you. Now, you need to find the Aurora
Path (oorora no kodo). Talk to Anna in Lance, and ask her about the Aurora Path
(it's the last choice). Now, switch to the world map (the scrolled one, I
mean), and
When you beat her, you see'll an ice statue of a girl holding a crystal.
Explore it, and you'll get the "Eikyuu kesshou". Eternal Crystal. If you want
the snowman to join you, grab the crystal and talk to him.
If you continue your journey through the wasteland, you'll find a
dragon-guardian and the Ice Sword behind it. The Sword is VERY powerful
(especially if you're not far in the game).
Q: Where is the Fairy Village?
A: In the Jungle of Ake. If you keep looking for it long enough, you'll find
it.You'll have to climb a tree (mario-like), and the village is on top of it. A
clue: all fairies in the village lie :( I heard that if you rescue the fairy
from the travelling show, she'll help you find the Fire Palace, but I cannot
confirm this.
Q: Where is the Dolphin Statue?
A: Talk to Herman in the "Beach Village" (the one with the chicks), he'll show
you a certain cave... Find the room
with the waterfalls, there's a secret passage there. The Statue will be at the
end of the hidden part of the cave.
Q: How do I get Vangard to float?
A: Bring the Water Magicians and the Dolphin Statue to the ship beneath the
city.
Q: What's up with the door at the end of the Dark King's Castle?
A: You need the Royal Ring to open it. The Seyuu's descendant has it it Lance
(the village, not the castle).
Q: Where are the 4 Abyss Gates?
A: Fire Palace in the Jungle of Ake, the Dark King's Castle in Pidona, Water
Palace somewhere beneath
the ocean, and the last one, in a cave on top of a mountain near Michael's
Castle (I'm not too great with
RS3 names... )
Q: Help! I'm always broke!
A: Cash is another problem in RS3. Unlike in most Square games, where you could
literally buy the whole world you're playing in, in RS3 you can't have more
than 10000GP (or whatever) at any point of the game. But there is an easy way
to get the 10000 - go to the item shop in Yamas, and sell your Royal Ring - for
2500. Exit the store, go back and buy a "pretty ring" for 10. Now check your
items - your Royal Ring is back! :) You can do this over and over again anytime
you want.
Q: How do I learn new attacks and spells?
A: Just keep fighting. Your characters will learn new attacks and spells at
random. This is a hard game...
Q: What is LP and what happens if a character's LP goes down to 0?
A: LP is life points. If a character's LP goes down to 0, he/she's dead, and
there's no way to revive him/her. Don't let this happen...
Q: Is there any way I can increase LP?
Nope. You can heal it with one of the healing items, but you cannot increase
it.
Q: Is there anything on the right side of the desert?
A: Yeah, later in the game. If you haven't closed 4 Abyss Gates, going right
(east) is pointless, the desert will
never end.
Q: How do I get the Fairy to join my party?
A: To get the fairy from the top of the Fairy village to join you, you have to
rescue her from the travelling show. When you find the show in one of the
cities and explore it, you'll be awakened in the middle of the night. Visit
the show once again, and let the fairy out. She'll fly away, but don't worry.
Go to the Fairy Village, and she'll wait for you at the very top.
Q: How do I get Leonid (the Vampiress) to join my party?
A: You have to find your way to Leonid's coffin, which is at the very end of
the castle. Leonid will be there, then she'll disappear. Go back to the top of
the castle, and if you have less than 6 characters in your party, she'll join
you. Be aware of the fact that Leonid will not join Monica's party.
If Leonid is killed in battle, she'll turn to dust , but will be back in the
next fight! Infinite LP ^^;
Q: How do I get the Elephant to join my party?
A: If you want the Elephant to join you, you need Sarah or the boy in your
party. Go to Rashkuta, talk to the sick elephant, then go to the next room.
"The" Elephant will be there and will most likely join you.
Q: What happens after the "last" Abyss Gate is closed?
A: Okay... Take your best party, load yourself with everything, take best
weapons, etc... You'll have no access to
the Overworld for a while. Go to the Desert, and keep going right. After a
while, you'll get to the dope part of the desert. After you're through with
that you'll get to the last part. You can visit a mysterious castle if you
go north, or continue through the meadows if you go east. The only place you
can explore at this time is a small "Indian" village. One of the villager women
will join you. Go back to the meadows, and keep going south until you get to a
cave. You have to defeat all enemies here, and talk to all the wierd creatures
in this dungeon. Go
back to the village (the woman will abandon your party), talk to everyone, then
go east to the "Mysterious City". Another cave will be available to the north.
This will be pretty hard, especially when you get to fight the Dark King's
shadow. Now, you can go back to the overworld, and a new Japanese looking
castle will appear on the map... Good luck!
Q: How do I beat the final boss?
A: I don't know! But if you did it, you're one helluva rpg player.
Q: How do I get Black to join my party?
A: Black is Herman's youthful self. Defeat Forneus with Herman, and he'll turn
into Black.
Oh well, this is pretty much all I know. I sold the game before I had a chance
to beat it (took me 2 months to get to the final boss though, hehe ). Now I'm
forced to play Mario RPG, and I sure regret selling the game.
RS3 is really phat, especially if you're looking for hard-core challenge.
Replay value is ultimate, there's like at least 20 extra characters, story is
pretty cool, etc. This is an rpg that will keep you busy for a long time. It's
worth it. Why the #$&@ did I sell it? :PPP
