At the character select screen, hold start at Haohmaru then move the cursor
over the following orders: Genjuro, Basara, Ukyo, Rimururu, Haohmaru,
Shizmaru, Nakoruru, Hanzo, Amakusa, Gaira, Galford, Shizmaru. While the cursor
at Shizmaru, wait until the timer reaches "03". When it reaches "03" press
button X and Circle simultaneously. If the code worked, you should see
Zankuro's picture appears in the middle of the screen.
The Dreaded "demon". His name, Zankuro Minazuki. The evil Zankuro,
from time immemorial, has indiscriminately attacked villages,
slaughtering all in his way. Falling under his mighty blade, victims
screamed in terror of the dreaded demon before drowning in an endless
sea of blood. All stood impotent to his evil deeds.
But then...In a distanct village, Zankuro failed to kill an infant.
Some insist, perhaps the evil one could not kill him. The truth remains
unknown. But from then on, Zankuro marked all swordsmen for slaughter.
Years later...Twelve samurai and swordsmen begin their own quests. All
seek one goal, the head of the dreaded Zankuro Minazuki.

The wanderer samurai in search of the slaying serpent Zankuro...
HAOHMARU
"Duelling is my Raison D'etre!"
THE SS1 TITLE SCREEN -- WIND: This is essentially based on the intro to
Shodown I, where the narrator gives the laws of the samurai and Haohmaru
slices the two lanterns with the lavender trees in the background. Now,
however, we get to see the entire courtyard with gigantic lavender trees
in the background and many lanterns adorning the stage both in the
foreground and all over the background. The lanterns can be cut down by
the players. During the desperation, the background becomes a dark violet
aura with many layers of color and lavender leaves begin to fall like
snow. Large branches of the trees hang in the foreground.

SHIZUMARU HISAME
"Sorry about that gash!"
BAMBOO FOREST: Stage Description: This is a dense bamboo forest, with
leaves blowing across the floor. Sunlight filters through the tops of
the trees. During the desperation stage, the forest vanishes and is
replaced by a thick green aura. Leafy bamboo branches hang down in the
background and leaves flutter down from them.

TACHIBANA UKYO
"Hmmph!"
RAFT -- SWAMP: You will fight on a raft floating on a green river,
with a thick forest in the background. Rotten trees, dead weeds and
lanterns scroll by in the foreground--several layers of parallax. In the
river, logs and even occasional bodies with swords and arrows in their
backs float by. During desperation, the background turns black and
filtered blue light flows onto the stage, while fluorescent green polyps
flash on the black background. When one player wins, pheasants fly up
from the foreground.

NAKORURU
"Savour nature's fearful wrath!"
NORTHERN COUNTRY SPRING -- CANYON: The fighting occurs in shallow water
flowing through a canyon, with one of the rocky cliffs decorated with
shrubs visible. For Slash Nakoruru, the plant life is brown as in fall
whereas it is green as in spring for Bust Nakoruru. Small butterflies
and dragonflies can also be seen. Also the occasional leaf falls down the
stage. During the desperation, the cliffs vanish and are replaced by a
bright red aura and leaves drop down in the foreground.

RIMURURU
"You anger mighty nature!"
NORTHERN COUNTRY -- WINTER: Stage Descriptiom: This stage is very
similar to Nakoruru's stage in Samurai 1. In the second round, Nakoruru
and her two parents come out of the cottage and watch the fight. When
Nakoruru first comes out, she is holding two rabbits but drops them in
shock when she sees her sister fighting. For the rest of the match,
Nakoruru is shaking her head while her father is running his hand over his
beard. If Rimururu wins, Nakoruru smiles in relief and her mother begins
clapping. If Rimururu loses Nakoruru drops to her knees in sorrow and her
mother turns to comfort her as her father covers his face with his hand.
During the desperation, the background vanishes and the characters fight
in a fierce blizzard.

GALFORD
"Come learn true justice!"
BRIDGE AND FALLS: You will fight on a bridge with a large waterfall
directly in the
background. The bridge connects two rocky cliffs covered with vegetation.
The occasional bird flies in from both sides and then zooms back off.
During the desperation stage, the waterfall vanishes and is replaced by
blue space. Lighting forks strike down randomly both in the background
and in the foreground.

HATTORI HANZO
"Death means 'rest' to me!"
DESOLATION MOUNTAINS -- FALLEN BATTLE: This stage occurs in the middle
of a volcanic hot spot, with gray igneous rocks in the immediate
background and a volcanic ash laden sky, which can be seen when the
screen scales out. Steam rises from the background and vents up through
the floor. The stage also pulsates black, as if the sun were being
completely shut out, occaisionally.

demons...
SENRYO KYOSHIRO
"What a great death scene!"
EDO -- THE KABUKI STAGE: Fighting occurs on the stage of Kyoshiro's
theater. In the background there is a large tapestry of a woman. Large
butterflies flutter through the stage in the first round. High up in the
foreground of his stage is the curtain. There is a tree sticking out of
both sides of the stage. In the second round, the tapestry flips over to
become the picture of Kyoshiro brutally slaying someone, the butterflies
become ethereal flame spirits, and the lanterns against the stage turn
from yellow to blue. At the desperation, the background turns into the
stage curtain that had hung above in the previous state. Ghosts fly by
overhead and strange, transparent images flash against the curtains. Once
one player has won, the tapestry in the background becomes chagnes again.
It becomes a picture of Kyoshiro sitting on a stone ground with his
naginata. If Kyoshiro loses, it changes to a pictures of Kyoshiro sitting
with long tenticles coming out from someplace behind him.

KIBAGAMI GENJURO
"You wretch!"
VILLAGE -- DAYTIME: Your fights occurs in the middle of the street of a
ghost own in the old west with fast moving grey clouds in the sky.
Frequent lightening strikes are visible in the background. Children are
present at the beginning of the fight, but their parents come out and pull
them from the scene of violence. A large flat cart, reminiscent of the
"Bring out your dead" cart in Monty Python and the Holy Grail, is at the
right side of the screen in the immediate background. During the
desperation stage, the entire background is replaced by a flowing purple
vortex that has a focus at the center of the stage.

GAIRA CAFFEINE
"You cannot beat me!"
TEMPLE - DUSKY: This is Caffeine Nicotine's stage from Shodown II, but
there is thick orange-red mist. The lanterns in the foreground can be cut
down by the players. In the second round, the mist disappears, and the
temple becomes visible. During desperation, the whole background is
replaced by burning torches and scene changes to night with a black sky
and a blue ground. Strange, blue images can be seen in the sky and large
bonfires burst out of no where in the foreground.

KIBUKIRI BASARA
"Let's do the death dance!"
MASOLEUM -- MIDNIGHT: This is essentially a dilapidate temple with silk
screens in the foreground, which can be destroyed by the players. The
back of the temple is open and has a HELL red overcast to it that filters
into the shrine. After one player wins the first round, the candles blow
out and the stage becomes dark blue. During the desperation points, the
entire background becomes black and candles appear in various places,
floating in air. Spot lights light up a wall that has now appeared in the
background, revealing many strange and unusual images. The pictures are
probably representative of what existed back when the temple was in its
prime.

AMAKUSA SHIRO TOKISADA
"The weak deserve death!"
PILLARS -- NIGHT: This stage is positively apocalyptic! Nothing
forebodes evil presence like this stage. There are four pillars lined up
in the immediate background, and slightly behind them and in between the
central two there is a large ring of stones similar to Stonehege. During
the first round a large rock capsule with two halves comes down to the
center of the background. The halves of the capsule rotate independent of
one an other in opposite directions. In the second round, they start
spinning farther away from each other and an energy sphere appears between
them and lights appear on the top of the pillars in the background. The
sky is a deep crimson which comes down and melds with large purple
mountains in the background. During the desperation, most of the
background disappears. The pillars still remain, the capsule has
vanished. A vortex appears on the central pillar in the background and
sucks in glowing energy spheres similar to the one that was held in the
capsule.

The Demon swordmaster who seeks enlightenment via the ritualistic
slaughter of great swordsmen and innocents alike...
ZANKURO MINAZUKI
TEMPLE -- STORM: The fighting takes place on the stone floor of a large
temple. In the foreground and in the near background there are large
burning cauldrons. In the background are many gigantic four armed statues
in different poses, wielding various weaponry. The roof consists of many
ornately carved wood panels supported by large wooden pillars. There are
screens in the background and behind them there are storm clouds blowing
by with random flashes of lightening lighting up the room. In the
desperation (the final round against Zankuro) the roof has fallen in,
revealing a blood red sky with fast moving storm clouds. The statues
remain, but the cauldrons are gone. The floor is cracked in many places
and hot flames are shooting out of the gaps.
