v1.2, 02/05/2002 - Updated some info.
- Added the Revision History section.
- Added the location of the Mystic Pendants.
- Added a way to regain control of Alucard after you were hit by an Imp and
you fell to the bottom of the map. Thanks to Zanapher.
- Added the location of the AxeLord Armor.
I've played this game for a couple of years now and about a year
ago I read that there was glitch that allowed you to get more than 200.6%.
At first I didn't want to trigger this glitch because I wanted to have
everything without the help of any glitches. But then I started another
game and decided to try it. I got 210.1% the first time. Everyone at the
GameFAQs Message Boards, including myself, thought that 210.1% was the
maximum percentage you could get, but we were wrong.
Months later, a guy (weijun?) posted a message on the GameFAQs
Message Boards saying that he had 210.2%, then he posted a message
explaining how to get 210.2% but nobody, including me, understood clearly
what he said. A week later I was fooling around outside the castle and I
remembered that he mentioned something about a CD room, so I went to the
only one accessible via the glitch and I found out how to get the extra
.1%.
Months after discovering the extra .1%, quest64freak found a method
to get _even_ more percentage. At first I didn't believe him and then I
tried it and it worked. I was able to get 215.3%.
It's a programming error in Castlevania: Symphony of the Night
which allows you to exit both of the castles and obtain more than 200.6%,
which was supposed to be the maximum percentage you could obtain.
3.2.Requirements to trigger the Sword Brothers Glitch.
Required:
1) The Sword Card relic.
2) The Soul of Bat relic.
3) Sword Familiar at level 90 or higher.
4) Ability to cast the Sword Brothers spell.
Recommended:
1) The Shield Rod (or the Mablung Sword) and the Alucard Shield. You are
required to have these items to be able to get the maximum percentage.
2) Having already uncovered the 1890 rooms inside both castles, which gives
you 200.6%. This is HIGHLY recommendable because this way you'll know
when you've reached the maximum percentage, and there won't be any
confusion.
3) Patience. It takes some time to uncover all the map.
4) The AxeLord Armor. This will save you a lot of trouble and time if you
get hit by an Imp and fall to the bottom of the screen.
3.4.How to exit the castle with the Sword Brothers Glitch.
Go to the bottom of the first bell tower in the Royal Chapel (two
rooms to the right of where the Spectral Sword is), walk to the left exit
(but don't enter the other room) and cast the Sword Brothers spell
(remember that your Sword Familiar has to be at level 90 or higher for the
glitch to trigger). While the spell is being cast, transform into the Bat
and fly to the left. If you did it at the right time, you should exit the
castle instead of switching screens. If you switched screens then you did
it too early, just return quickly to the bell tower room and then quickly
change back to the other room. If you couldn't get out of the castle, try
again, it's easy once you know when to change screens. You can also trigger
this glitch and exit the castle at the same place in the inverted castle
(Anti- Chapel). Any area you explore outside the castle will be marked in
white on your map.
This isn't hard but it can be frustrating and takes some time. I'll
explain my method in three steps:
1) Explore all of the areas outside of both castles and uncover the 90
rooms (45 per each castle) you can get just by exploring, which will
make your percentage 210.1% (1980 rooms).
2) Get the extra room "hidden" in the inverted castle which will allow you
to have 210.2% (1981 rooms). To do this trigger the Sword Brothers
Glitch in the inverted castle (Anti-Chapel) and after you get out of the
castle go to the right (without changing screens) and then go up, you'll
be in a CD room, now go to the left side of the CD room and then go down
to change to the room below, you'll be in the top of your screen and you
won't be able to see Alucard, now change to the room to the left, keep
going left until you can't go any farther and then go all the way down.
You will fill a room in your map by doing this. This room cannot be
uncovered in the normal castle, only in the inverted one.
3) Get the extra 48 rooms (15 in the first castle and 33 in the second one)
you can get using the [Shield Rod (or Mablung Sword)] + [Alucard Shield]
combo. I'll start by explaining how to do this in the inverted castle.
After you exit the inverted castle, if you keep falling down until you
reach the bottom of the first bell tower (which would be the top of the
first bell tower in the normal castle), you'll reach the bottom of the
screen and keep "falling" down even though you're not really going down
anymore, it will appear like you're stuck (sometimes you can still move
to the right or the left, though) and the only way to get out is to
transform into the Bat or Mist. If you do the [Shield Rod (or Mablung
Sword)] + [Alucard Shield] combo, you'll fill an extra white spot which
is located in the room below where you are on the map. This trick can be
used to fill 15 white spots in the first castle and 33 in the second
one. Most of them, in the inverted castle, are in the bottom of the map.
There's some exceptions, for example, you can fill 5 extra spots below
the Spike Room (which would be above the Spike Room in the normal
castle) using this trick. Just explore the outside of the inverted
castle and use this trick in all the places where you can keep "falling"
in the bottom of the screen. This trick also works in the normal castle
but it's harder to find areas where you can keep "falling". Just like in
the inverted castle, you can fill the area below the Spike Room, and you
can also fill the area below the rooms that connect the three bell
towers. It might be hard to reach these areas but it's very possible and
quite easy once you know where to change screens, just keep trying until
you reach them. Right now, the most I've been able to get is 215.3%
(2029 rooms), I am not sure if this is the most you can get.
- If you see an Imp flying towards you, immediately transform into Mist and
let the Sword Familiar take care of it or kill it yourself if you have
the Gas Cloud relic. If you get hit by an Imp in the inverted castle, you
might fall down until you reach the bottom of the map and you'll get
stuck and won't be able to transform into the Bat or do anything else. If
this happens, just equip the AxeLord Armor, go back to the game and then
unequip it to take back control of Alucard. You can obtain the AxeLord
Armor by doing the Librarian Trick and by killing the Spiked Ball in the
Royal Chapel until it drops it.
- The Mystic Pendant helps you restore your MP faster, wear two for better
results. One is located in the Royal Chapel (normal castle) and you can
obtain another one by killing the Bitterflies located in the Necromancy
Laboratory (inverted castle).
- Manna Prisms restore all your MP. If you have the Item Duplicator, you'll
be able to restore your MP without losing a Manna Prism.
- To reach the area below the rooms that connect the three bell towers,
first change to the room "blocking" your way and then quickly change back
to the room where you came from, the background will turn black and you
should be able to go down without changing screens.
- Some parts are too narrow and you won't be able to pass under them as a
Bat. Just transform back into Alucard and "fall" to the bottom of the
screen to be able to pass under them.
- Sometimes you'll fly into a spot where a room should be and you'll get
transported inside that room. You'll have to exit the castle again if
this happens. This can be avoided by flying on the edge of the screen.
