= Why Have A Formations FAQ? =
====================================
I decided to write this FAQ as a way of finding out new
formations and sharing my formations with other people.
The only way that this FAQ will be a success is if people
submit their formations. Anyway, on with the FAQ!
Notes : The best 4 3 3 formation for scoring goals
but the midfield will be weak really with only
three players in it. but if you still want to
score more, push players 2, 5, 6 and 8 up.
Notes : Make good use of your wingers to get
more chances on goal. This formation is a touch
too weak in the attack to be of any use. A plus
side to this formation is that it has a strong
midfield.
Notes : Your striker is still isolated here and it
is therefor hard to score but it is also very hard
for the opposition to score. Make players 7 and 10
push forward to make some more goalmouth
opportunities.
Notes : This is a good all round formation which
lets you attack and defend easily. The only problem
is that the midfield is weak, but you can't have
everything.
Notes : This is a good formation for good teams but
poor teams should not use this as it is quite a flat
formation. Try pushing up players 5 and 8 to increase
the wingplay.
Notes : Player 8 should be a good attacking midfielder
because he will be needed to link up the midfield and
the attack. apart from its reliance on one player this
is a good formation.
Notes : Players 7 and 8 seem to be in a bad position
so push them out wide. The midfield will be very weak
so try to let one of the strikers drop back every now
and then.
==================================
= How To Create A Formation =
==================================
I decided to write this section to ensure that I didn't receive
e-mails asking me about how to make formations.
To make formations, load up your game and go to the drop-down
menu at the top of the screen. Move along that until you see
a picture of a traffic cone with SQUAD above it, click on it.
You are now in the dressing room. Click on the green tactics
board below the TV, on the wall to the right of the tunnel.
Now click on NEW in the bottom left of the screen and begin
to drag the player pointers around to create your formation.
Now just click on SAVE AS to save the formation.
Have fun!
=================================
= How To Submit A Formation =
=================================
Once you have created a formation you can submit it to me to be
included in the FAQ and here's how, there are three ways that you
can submit your formations to me,
The first would be to recreate your formation in a text document
using the same style as me (this would save me a lot of time =>)
and e-mail me the file in a notepad file, preferably zipped to
avoid the file becoming corrupted. (please do not send them in,
in any other formats, my PC can't cope)
Here is a copy of the 'form'. All you have to do is input the
data, like I have done in all the formations and e-mail it to me
at k_u_r_r_u_p_t_@hotmail.com,
The second way is a bit easier for you, but not me! Once
you have created your formation save it and quit the game.
Now go to your Ultimate Soccer Manager directory and find
the formation files. They always have the file extension
*.for. You will need to work out which *.for file is the
right one by trial and error. Once you find it e-mail it
to me at k_u_r_r_u_p_t_@hotmail.com Don't worry, the files
are only about 1.5 kb each.
But, remember if you do use this method PLEASE INCLUDE YOUR
NAME or you will not be credited for your work.
The third way to get your formations to me would be to post
your formation(s) on the Ultimate Soccer Manager 98 message
board on GameFAQs. Just create a topic called something like
'Formations for Guide' or even just 'Formations'.
I will check the board daily, along with my e-mail so it does
not really matter which method you choose.
=========================
= User Formations =
=========================
Here are all of the formations that I have created and that
people have sent me. Remember if you want to be in the FAQ
send me your formations.
Notes : This is a quite affective Formation to counter
a 4 4 2 but it does leave you quite stretched at the
back. I advise using man for man marking with players
3 and 4 on the opponent's two forwards.
Notes : Let player 8 drop back to help with the defence
and use players 4 and 9 as wingers to put in the crosses.
This formation can score a lot of goals if used against
any type of team. One of my favourites.
Notes : This is a good formation to have just in case.
I usually only use it in the last few minutes of a
match that I have to win at all costs. It will get a
goal if you get lucky. Occasionally I have used this
formation for whole matches at a time and if your
team is strong in attack then you could win by quite a
lot.
Notes : Use a good attacking midfielder as player 4
and push him up to strengthen the attacks. This is
a good all round formation which has one me plenty of
matches. One of my best formations.
Notes : Good for away legs of cup matches; it will be
hard for the opponents to score but you will have to
hit on the break is you want to score at all.
Notes : Again I advise using man for man marking with
player 2 on the opponent's forward. This is a good
formation but it will leave your goalkeeper with a
lot to do. Even after saying that it will still work
well against opponents using a 4 5 1 formation.
Notes : This should help you to beat a good side using
the 4 3 3 formation. If you are running into difficulty
let player 7 drop back to help the defence.
Notes : This is an all round good formation, the defence,
midfield and attack are all strong. The only thing this
formtion is lacking is some central midfield players.
Notes : Pushing player 6 up the wing to put in crosses
will help this formation rise from mediocrity to a
little bit better than mediocrity. But this formation
is good in defence.
Formation Name : Single Winger (right)
By : Kurrupt
Notes : An average formation which lacks central defenders.
Central defenders can be really important as they can be the
last man before the goalkeeper. That makes this formation weak
defensively.
Notes : Quite a useful formation, strong in attack and defence
but not so good in midfield. To help this play long balls and
push either one or both of players 6 and 9 up to put in crosses
for the three forwards. this will eliminate the need for much of
a midfield.
Notes : A good strong formation in attack, midfield and defence.
This is a good formation for scoring goals but unless you have
really good defenders it can be hard to keep a clean sheet every
game.
Notes : This is just a variation of 3 5 2 std (see STARTING
FORMATIONS). The only difference between this and the original
is that this formation is easier to score with. I usually push
players 5 and 8 up to help the attackers and players 6 and 7
back to help the defenders.
Notes: This formation generates a lot of chances but
is only successful with a good team. The key players are
numbers 6, 7, 8, and 9, although a strong defence comes
in very handy. The two wingers will get a lot of
opportunities so it pays to have good attacking midfielders
with strong shooting. The lone central midfielder should
ideally be a defensive midfielder, as then he will win a
lot of ball and quickly feed it on to the wingers and
attackers. Number 9 acts as the link so good passing is
a must, but a strong shot is just as important as he will
have a lot of chances.
Notes: Balanced formation with five attacking players
and five defensive ones. Number 6 (the anchor) is really
the key, if he has good passing and tackling this formation
will prove very successful, for the tougher games I sometimes
get him to drop back even further, but then you should
probably get your central attacking midfielder to do the same.
Notes: Named and in created in honour of the Brazilian team
that was victorious at this years World Cup, This formation has
proved quite successful. Strong attackers and wing backs are
the key to success here, although good passing in the midfield
will create even more chances. Never seems to work with Long
Ball though, so always set your tactics to passing. Make sure
your wing backs are pushing forward or your attackers will
struggle. You can also get number 4 to push forward and help
the midfield if it needs it.
Notes: A variation of the 4-1-3-2 Anchor that is better suited
to teams that don't have a lot of attacking midfielders. With
numbers 7 and 8 playing further back they will create less chances,
but on the plus side they won't be wasting as many chances by
shooting a lot themselves. Which is great when you have wingers
with strong passing but a weak shot.
Formation Name : 4-1-4-1 Macedonia (flat)
By : Kurrupt
Notes : I created this formation after watching the England
against Macedonia match. This is the formation that Macedonia
used to draw 2-2 with England. It is a good formation because
player 6 can either help the defence or the midfield. I
usually push players 6 and 10 up the wings to put in crosses
and generally help out the lone striker.
Formation Name : 4-1-4-1 Macedonia (attack)
By : Kurrupt
Notes : This formation is just like the 4-1-4-1 Macedonia (flat)
except that players 2, 5, 7 and 10 are all pushed up and players
8 and 9 are moved back. This can increase the amount of goals
that you score. My only problem with this formation is that the
striker can find it hard to get the support he needs as the only
players that are up are on the wings. But even after saying this
it is a generally average formation.
Formation Name : 4-1-4-1 Macedonia (defence)
By : Kurrupt
Notes : This formation is just like the 4-1-4-1 Macedonia (flat)
except that players 7 and 10 are moved back. This can decrease
the amount of goals that you score and concede. My only problem
with this formation is that the striker can find it hard to get
the support he needs as there are very few players up. Therefor
it is the worst of the 4-1-4-1 Macedonia style formations for
scoring but the best at defending.
Formation Name : Haggard 3 4 3 (right)
By : Kurrupt
Notes : This formation was created with right sided
attacking teams in mind. Player 5 is usually pushed
up and right to move int a more central attacking role.
The wingers, 6 and 9 are in place to defend and attack,
respectively. I usually move player 6 back and move
player 9 up the wing to put crosses into the box for the
four attackers.
Formation Name : Haggard 3 4 3 (left)
By : Kurrupt
Notes : The Haggard 3 4 3 (left) formation is the left-
sided equivalent to Haggard 3 4 3 (right), this is only
useful if instead of a right-sided attacking midfileder,
you have a left footed one. The same applies for player 9.
Both of these formations are reasonably good all round
formations, which can do well to win you those close cup
matches.
Formation Name : Haggard 3 4 3 v.2 (right)
By : Kurrupt
Notes : Another version of the original Haggard 3 4 3
formation, this time with a permanent central attacker.
In comparison to the other Haggard 3 4 3 formations it
is stronger in the attack and the same in defence. My
personal preference.
Formation Name : Haggard 3 4 3 v.2 (left)
By : Kurrupt
Notes : The left sided version of the Haggard 3 4 3 v.2. As
I have said before, this is just in case you have a left
attacking midfielder and a right defensive midfielder. The
strongest formation in attack out of the four but just the
same in defence.
Notes : A very attacking 4 2 4 formation, which can only
produce victories if your two midfielders are up to scratch.
If you try to play 2 weak midfielders you will be annihilated
because with out a good midfiled, the defence will find it hard
to get the ball to the forwards.
Note: For this formation you must have a two strong
midelfid players. With this formation is played a old
Bosnian club "Velez". They scored a lot of goals, and
their play was good to watch. Player No 10 was Vahid
Halilhodzic who is now a coach of Paris St. Germain.
Notes : This formation was used by England in a few friendlies
before Euro 2004. If your team has too many good central midfield
players, this formation can be used to compensate for all of them
in your team just like England do. This is an adaptable formation
which can become 3 other formations: 5-3-2, 4-3-3 or 5-2-3. Move
7, preferably a defensive midfielder, back to help defend or push
9, ideally an attacking midfielder, forward for a larger threat
when attacking. The weakness of this formation is its lack of width,
so you can either push 6 and 8 outwards or to be more adventurous
send 2 and 5 up.
Formation Name : 4-1-2-1-2 England Diamond Wingback
By : Simi
Notes : A more attacking version of the England diamond formation to
help give the team more width. The fullbacks 2 and 5 can be pushed
even further forward to help provide crosses but this leaves the
defence short at the back so you may want to drop 7 back.
Formation Name : 4-1-2-1-2 England Diamond Defensive
By : Simi
Notes : This is a strongly defensive variation of the England diamond.
The key players are 7 and 9 because these will need to win alot of the
ball by themselves and link with the forward players. For counter
attacks you may wish to throw players 6 and 8 forward.
I generally don't mind if you send me mail which is related to the
game, but there are certain things which I will not tolerate being
sent to me.
Please note that you can always find the latest version of the guide
on GameFAQs or on usmformations.cjb.net so before you go e-mailing me
about mistakes I have made please check that you have the latest version
of the guide.
