Atomic Bomberman Faq Version 1.2 By Josh Baxley (aka phAWler)
partly contributed by REAPER64
Q What the heck is bomberman?!
A Click on the the "Bomberman who" icon at the top left. Or check a
really informative site like Cool Flame.
Q Why is Atomic Bomberman different?
A IMO, All the other bomberman games were more focused around the 1-player
mode. I think this is the first that was mainly for multiplayer.
Q How many people can play a multiplayer game?
A 10 in all. But this can be kind of misleading. There can only be 5
machines playing at once, but there can be 2 people per machine. (for
instance, 1 person using keyboard the other using gamepad). 5 x 2=10.
Q How do I play other players on the internet?
A There are a number of ways to play multiplayer. I like Kali the best.
Other ways include mplayer, Kahn, and TEN. None of these are free of
course- except maybe Heat. I'm not sure. Thats what I was told. Don't
take my word for it. Maybe it costs money now.
Q What are schemes?
A Schemes are stages... the way the blocks and bricks are set in the level
Q How do I make them?
A Simply press ctrl+e 6 times at the main menu
Q How do I play a custom scheme?
A If you downloaded it, you need to copy it to your
C:\INTRPLAY\BOMBRMAN\SCHEMES folder. Next, load Bomberman and go to the
options menu, do down until you get to the part about schemes, and scroll
through until you found the one you d-loaded.
Q When I play multiplayer games, does everyone joining my game need the
custom stage?
A NO! and IMO, this is one of the best features in ABM!
Q Where's the best place to get schemes?
A Probably Zaviers Page (netscape version).
Q What are these levels? I though schemes were levels! I'm so confused....
A Ok, ok. These levels are custom graphics, like the Green acres stages,
Garbage dump, Egyptian level, ect., etc... Schemes are just the formation
the bricks and blocks are in.
Q Ok, I downloaded one of theses levels and unzipped it, but what do I do
with all these files?!
A The *.ani files need to go in your \BOMBRMAN\DATA\ANI folder, and the pcx
file(s) need to go to the \BOMBRMAN\DATA\RES folder. Next you need to load
a STAGES.TXT from you \BOMBRMAN\TOOLS folder. Near the end of this document
it will tell you what files you need to edit in order to get the levels
running.
Q How do I make my own levels?
A Check your \BOMBRMAN\TOOLS\ folder. There will be a program called
FREDIT. This is a frame editing app. In that same directory with fredit,
there are two useful help files: STAGES.TXT and FREDIT.DOC. Read them
carefully. Like most people, you will probably run into problems...
Q I ran into a few problems making my level... What do I do?
A You best bet would be to ask around... either the web masters or Kali
chat. I probably can't help you.. As you can see I needed help on my
DooM level.... Here are a few tips I received that may help you too:
* The tiles need to be 40x36 when imported. You DO NOT want to shring
these down to their smallest part. If a tile has only 1 pixel in the
center the tiles should still be 40x36.
* You MUST make sure you name your animations appropriately within
FREDIT, if they match other names you will get an endless loop on the
stage select menu.
* Make absolutely sure CONVERT TO 15 BIT is set within FREDIT.
Q I have made more than 10 frames for a explosion but it only shows ten
frames in the game. how do i make it recognize the rest?
A in the valuelst.res go to line 20 and there it is. there is only one
problem, if you set it higher, anything below 10 frames will stick the
last frame on the screen till the frame cycling is done. so it is only
good for the level you made.
Q What are campaigns?
A Its a really cool 1-player mode... Nothing like BM2, but its still spiffy
Q How do I play the campaign levels?
A Try pressing "C" 5 times at the player select screen
Q Can I make my own campaigns?
A YES!!
Q HOW??!
A Well, You have to edit one of the existing campaigns in your data/res/
folder. Its pretty self-explanatory.. You should have no problem.
Q Where can I get custom campaigns?
A Well, my files page of course!
Well, There you have it. This FAQ is far from complete, It will be edited,
questions will be added, misspellings will be corrected, more subjects
will be brought up, and it will go on and on... If you feel this FAQ is
missing an important question... You can e-mail it to me.
