Object of Simtown: To create a prosperous town with a big population.
To start the game, click on Create a new town and pick a difficulty level.
To build things like buildings and roads, click on the top five things in the
tool bar.
Now you must remember that everything in Simtown is based around little
squares.
In the terrain bar (the icon with the picture of the road) you can build all
of these:

Builds a 8x8 piece of road on the land. If you build two that touch they will
automatically connect.
Bike Path
40 gallons of water
Builds a 2x2 piece of a bike path on the land. As with the road, if you build
two that touch, they will connect.
Large Pond
540 gallons of water
Builds a 9x6 lake. This can hardly be called large if it is only the size of
a block of road!?
Grass

The next two icons are the bulldozer and the magnifying glass.
After you click on the bulldozer icon, every building you click
on wiil be instantly demolished. To stop this effect, click on
another icon that cancels this one.
The second, the magnifying glass, allows you to get anyone's
profile after clicking on them. If they are happy, they will
say something like "life is good" or "things are looking up".
If they are sad they will say something like "life is rough"
or, if they are a kid, "I need a school".
The next three icons show pictures of houses. If you click on
the one with four houses, then you will be able to see your
whole town. This disables using any other icons except the
ones below that icon. The next icon, the one with two houses,
will make it so you can see a fairly large area. If you click
on the one house one below that, it will make a rectangle
appear on the screen. Put this rectangle where you want and
click. It will show a large picture of the area that was
inside the rectangle. I prefer using the two house view.
The icon below the houses (the one with the picture of two
people) will enable you to make your own character. You
can change their name, shirt color, favorite things, and
what they say when they are sad or happy. You can also
view their diary (but if you do, you're naughty!!). You
can then view your character later by clicking on Find
Designer Character in the Windows bar (or pressing
Ctrl+L).
The icon below the people icon is the resource icon.
This icon is very important, because it controls how
much you can build and how the Simtown citizens's
health are.
As you may have noticed, I put a number of trees
and/or a number of gallons of water after each
structure. Well, that is how much it takes to build
that thing. This draws from your resource, so you
need to fill them once in a while. To fill them,
simply click on the appropiate icon in the resource
bar (the bar on the left in the resource bar).
However, this takes credits, which you gain every
month, so watch out.
You can click on the advice thingy at the bottom
to get some help on what to add to or clean.
And the last icon is the newspaper. Clicking on
this will make a newspaper appear, telling you
what you're doing wrong and right.
Just a quick hint: You need a LOT of schools. I mean,
I had like 50 population once and I had like 40 schools,
but it still said "More schools needed" I was ticked off.
That's all the icons.
Now you'll notice that there is a little scale at the top.
This scale represents the relation of the number of your
town's houses to it's buisnesses. If your town has too
many houses and not enough buisnesses, then the house will
weigh down the scale and vice versa.
Now to disasters and eco-villains. A eco-villain will steal
your resources. For example, if a water hog is reported,
then your water supply will decrease. If the disasters
(a fire, earthquake, and a drought) happen, then, well,
they happen. Anyway, if a fire happens, then a fire will
appear and burn on a building. Your fireman can stop it.
A earthquake will make the earth shake and make your buildings
look run down.* And a drought depletes your water supply I
think. You can turn eco-villains and disasters off, but they
add more challenge to the game.
*Thanks to edibleskul for earthquake info.
That's the foundation of the FAQ. More coming soon.
