Destrega is an action/fighting game that is very different from the
typical 3D fighter. The characters mainly fight using magic spells,
instead of the usual assortment of punches, kicks and specials.
Different spells can performed via various button combinations, and
there is a total of 34 spell combinations per character.
The backgrounds in the game are huge. Since your character has
complete freedom of movement, you can practically explore every corner
of the arena. Each arena also has many distinctive features (such as
different heights, background objects, and obstacles),
and there are many to choose from.
In addition to the game modes found in most recent 3D fighters,
Destrega even includes a Story Mode. In the Story Mode, players get to
watch real-time cinemas that explain the story of the world of
Destrega. You also get to fight using different characters at various
points in the story, depending on the situation. (You can also save
your progress after every battle.)
I feel that Destrega is a fun and original game which is easy to
pick up by players of all skill levels. There are not many games like
it, so you may want to give it a try. ^_^
[D-PAD] - Used to control your character's movement in 3D.
[SQUARE Button]
- "Speed" Magic (when far from opponent)
- Weak Attack (when close to opponent)
[TRIANGLE Button]
- "Power" Magic (when far from opponent)
- Strong Attack (when close to opponent)
[CIRCLE Button]
- "Scatter" Magic (when far from opponent)
- Side-step Attack (when close to opponent)
[X Button]
- Jump
[L1 Button]
- Guard (Complete protection against close-range attacks; Reduces the
damage caused by Magic Attacks)
- Press repeatedly to recover from a fall when you get knocked into
the air by an attack.
[R1 Button]
- Dash
(Your character will dash in the direction he was last facing.)
{CHARGE JUMP} Press any MAGIC Button, followed quickly by JUMP.
*Uses Charge Gauge.
Your character will jump into the air, and remain floating for a
short while. (The jump height is the same as that of the normal jump.)
During the time when you are floating, you can use Magic Attacks on
your opponent.
*REPEATED MAGIC USE*
Once you perform the Charge Jump, quickly input up to a maximum of 3
spells (each input must be different!) before you reach the peak of
your jump. Your character will perform level 1 versions of each spell
one after another when he reaches the top of his jump. (This will
only consume a little bit of your Charge Gauge.)
{CHARGE DASH} Press any MAGIC Button, followed quickly by DASH.
*Uses Charge Gauge.
Your character will charge towards your opponent (no matter which
direction he was previous facing) with a barrier in front of him.
This barrier can inflict damage on your opponent, and will stun him
temporarily. This can be used to set up combos.
Besides this, the barrier can be used to defend against certain Magic
Attacks.
You can also power up your Charge Dash by pressing any Magic Button
2 or 3 times before you press DASH. This will result in a more powerful
barrier (with a slightly different appearance) which is able to deflect
the stronger Magic Attacks.
A Level 1 Dash can deflect a Level 1 Magic Attack.
A Level 2 Dash can deflect a Level 1 or 2 Magic Attack.
A Level 3 Dash can deflect a Level 1, 2, or 3 Magic Attack, but NOT
your opponent's Special Magic Attack.
{CHARGE GUARD} Press any MAGIC Button, followed quickly by GUARD.
Your character will be surrounded by a barrier, which will protect
him against all Magic Attacks. The barrier will be on as long as you
keep the GUARD Button held down.
*Your Charge Gauge will decrease so a long as the barrier is on.
{DEFLECT} Press GUARD just before a magic projectile hits you.
This will deflect one projectile away if timed right, and you won't
receive any damage. This does not work for all projectiles, though.
In Destrega, each character has 3 primary Magic attacks. They are
Speed ("Till"), Power ("Asu"), and Scatter ("Fou").
Pressing one of the 3 attack buttons from afar will perform your
character's magic spell. Your spells come in 3 Levels, and each level
consumes a different amount of power, as seen on your Charge Gauge
below your life bar. Your Charge Gauge will regenerate by itself after
you use a Magic attack.
Also, the color of your Charge Gauge changes at different levels, as
an indicator of what spells you can perform.
100%(Blue & Flashing)
- Can perform Level 1, 2, 3 Spells, and also your Special Magic.
50% to 99% (Green)
- Can perform Level 1 and 2 Spells.
33% to 49% (Yellow)
- Can perform Level 1 Spells.
Below 33% (Red)
- Cannot perform any spells.
*Note: Your Charge Gauge will also turn Red when you enter "Close
Combat" mode.
Your level 1 Magic Attacks are merely your 3 primary magic spells.
Simply press any magic button to use them respectively.
A Level 1 attack uses about 33% of your Charge Gauge.
[Speed]
- "Speed" is the fastest level 1 magic attack. However, it is also the
weakest.
- The projectile is usually small and fine, so you have to make sure
it scores a direct hit on your opponent.
[Power]
- "Power" is the strongest level 1 magic attack, but is also the
slowest.
- To make up for its slow speed, the projectile is usually large and
wide, such that is covers a bigger target area.
[Scatter]
- The strength of "Scatter" is only average, but since many
projectiles are fired at once, it has a higher chance of hitting its
target.
- Its speed is faster than that of "Power", but still slower than that
of "Speed".
Level 2 Magic Attacks are performed by inputting 2 different spells
at one go. This means tapping 1 of the magic buttons, then followed by
a second magic button.
A Level 2 attack uses about 66% of your Charge Gauge.
There are 9 different button combinations for Level 2 spells.
* If you input the same magic spell twice (e.g. [Speed-Speed],
[Power-Power], etc), you will get the Level 2 version of the primary
level 1 spell.
---------------------------------------------------------------------

Level 3 Magic Attacks are performed by inputting 3 commands at one
go, but only 2 different kinds of Magic are used. This involves
inputting 1 of the primary magic spells, followed by a second, and a
third magic spell.
A Level 3 spell uses up all of the energy on your Charge Gauge.
There are 21 different button combinations for Level 2 spells.
* If you tap the same button thrice (e.g. [Speed-Speed-Speed], etc),
you will get the Level 3 version for that primary spell.

LEVEL 3 SPECIAL MAGIC
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Each character has one Level 3 Special Magic attack. It is his
strongest spell, and uses up all of the energy on your Charge Gauge.
To do it, simply input ALL your 3 DIFFERENT magic spells in ANY
order.
Examples:
[Speed-Power-Scatter], [Power-Scatter-Speed], [Scatter-Speed-Power],
etc...

4. CLOSE COMBAT
=====================================================================
When you move close to your opponent, your Charge Gauge will turn
red in color, meaning that you are now in 'close combat', and cannot
use any of your Magic attacks. Your magic attacks will be replaced by a
Light, Strong, and Side-step Attack.
Weak Attacks are quick, and can be chained into a simple combo by
simply pressing it several times.
Strong Attacks are slow, but can knock down your opponent with one
hit. It is possible to attack your opponent using your magic spells
when they are down.
When you use a Side-step Attack, your character will quickly circle
around to your opponent's back and deliver a strong attack that knocks
him down.
Key:
[Weak]- Weak Attack
[Strong]- Strong Attack
[Magic]- any Magic Attack (must be one that is fast)
[Weak-Strong-Magic]
A good 3-hit combo that ends with a magic attack.
[Weak-Weak-Strong-Magic]
A strong 4-hit combo that ends with a magic attack.
The last Strong Attack in this combo is quite slow, and can be
blocked. However, if this combo is performed BEHIND your opponent, he
will receive the full number of hits for maximum damage.
[Weak-Weak-Weak-Strong-Magic]
A very powerful 5-hit combo. As mentioned above, perform this combo
behind your opponent for the full number of hits.
Note:
* You may want to try out these combos in the Practice Mode. The
combo-counter will tell you if you are doing it right.
* In the above combos, the animation for the Strong Attack for each
combo set is different! This affects how each character delivers the
Strong Attack, and how well the last Magic Attack will score a direct
hit on your opponent.
Although the button combinations for the various magic spells are
the same for all the characters, each of the 12 characters has a
different look to his spells, and some of the projectiles even have
distinctive properties and characteristics.
Each character also has different abilities, and are rated in 6
categories:
(Ratings are based on a scale of 1 to 10.)
MAGIC SKILLS
Power - the strength of a character's magic spells
Speed - the speed of a character's magic spells
Homing - the homing ability of a character's magic spells
STATUS
Run - the walking speed of a character
Dash - the dashing speed of a character
Jump - determines how high a character can jump
*Note:
The following character's ratings are read from a diagram, and may be
inaccurate.
The descriptions for the some of the characters are very insufficient
and may also contain mistakes. Some help in translating their stories
would be greatly appreciated.

GRAD
---------------------------------------------------------------------
[STORY]
Grad comes from a village which is built on the side of a mountain,
known as the Coran Mines.
One day, when Grad was away, soldiers from the Ipsen Empire
came and destroyed the village, killing its villagers. After Grad's
mother was killed, he sets off on a journey to defeat Zauber.
Grad's father was one of the great "SouSha"s (Sage?), which probably
explains why a 'commoner' like him have magic powers.
When she was young, Serea left her hometown because of riots and civil
unrest. After that, she was raised on a farm.
She later met Rosen, and got to know that her father was also a
"SouSha".
Milena is the daughter of the ruler of the southern empire,
Parmaweyra. However, when her father was assassinated, she was
determined to find the murderer, and she left the castle on her own.
Anzeal is the younger sister of Milena, and the only remaining heir
to the throne of the Parmaweyra Empire.
The source of her magical powers appears to be from the little
creature by her side.

PlayStation Control Pad Button Symbols (?)
Doil is a former soldier of the Ipsen Empire. He left the empire
because he wanted to lead a normal life with his son.
However, the Empire later kidnaps his son, and threatens Doil to do
their bidding.
When it comes to projectiles, each of the primary spells can be used
to overcome another.
They are:
"Speed" projectiles can overcome "Power" projectiles,
"Power" projectiles can overcome "Scatter" projectiles, and
"Scatter" projectiles can overcome "Speed" projectiles.
Keep this in mind during projectile battles!
(2) AUDIO CUES
When a character performs a spell, he/she will shout the name of the
spell just before he/she releases the projectile.
To recap, the names are as follows:
"Speed" - Character says "Till!"
"Power" - Character says "Asu!"
"Scatter" - Character says "Fou!"
Use this to identify the spell that your opponent is going to use,
and be prepared to counter it.
Usually, when your opponent uses "Speed", you can try using Dash to
avoid it. As for "Scatter", you can try jumping.
(3) AUTO TARGETTING
No matter which direction your character is facing, your spells
will always be directed towards your opponents. Most of them also
have homing abilities.
Therefore, you do not have to manually aim your spells at your
opponents, and can concentrate more on fighting.
(4) DIFFERENT SPELL EFFECTS
Performing certain spells when you are jumping or dashing can change
the effect of some spells.
For example, some characters may fire 2 projectiles instead of 1 when
they are jumping/dashing, and not just standing.
(5) USE YOUR SURROUNDINGS
Since each fighting arena is huge, it is always a good idea to be
on the move. You may also want to make use of the different background
obstacles and uneven height-levels to help in your offense and defense.
This makes for an interesting fight. ^_^
(6) SNEAK FROM BEHIND
When you attack someone from his side or his back, the damage
inflicted is higher than that when you hit him in front. Hence, it is
not a good idea to leave your back turned towards your opponent.
Use this to your knowledge, and perform a painful combo on your opponent
when he is facing the other way.
In addition, when you attack your opponent when he is down, the damage
inflicted will be quite insignificant, so save your energy unless he is
close to dying.
Finish the 1P BATTLE using any character (on any difficulty), and
you will get the alternate costume for that character.
On the character select screen, simply choose your character with
the START Button.
KOEI fans will recognize the costumes to be that of the characters
from their PS game "SanGoku MuSou"!
