First off, you may not rip this FAQ off in any way. You cannot use
any part/text other than for personal use without my permission. This
FAQ can only appear on www.GameFAQs.com, or www.IGN.com without my
permisson ;). If any of this FAQ appears in places where I have I not
okayed the use of it, I will immediately sue your sorry behind and
you'll wish you were never born. Hopefully that is warning enough =).
Okay, you obviously bought this game for a reason. You either like
skateboarding, saw an nice commercial, or have played THPS1. Either way,
you'll enjoy this game to the very end and even beyond that. Like it's
predecessor, you seek out objectives in each level to get to the next
level. Now, when you complete certain objectives, you earn money. You
can use the money towards increasing your stats, buying a better decks
(skateboards), and opening up new levels. There are also new pro skaters
to choose from such as Steve Cabellero, Rodney Mullen, Elissa Steamer,
and more. You still have the combo system with multipliers and such, but
now you have a new move that will allow you to make your combos insane
and endless. That trick is called a manual and nose manual. A manual is
where you lift up your two front wheels in a wheelie position and a nose
manual is the same thing but you lift up the back wheels. This nifty
move allows you to keep riding while still in a combo! This'll
definitely make those high score objectives a lot easier. There's also a
level editor and many pre-made levels that come with it. Free skate,
single session, and the option menu still remain undisturbed. And enough
with intro, let's get to the guide.
Okay, you've started the game and the awesome intro movies are over,
now what? First, turn off the game and open up this FAQ, then I'll
explain everything.
Career Mode: In Career Mode you choose a pro and skate levels, complete
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ objectives, earn money, and open up new levels. You can
only open up levels in this mode so don't go to free skate
or single session and expect to have all of the levels.
Single Session: In Singe Session you get one practice run of 2:00 to
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ skate up to your heart's desire. You can make a new
high score of your own or clear gaps. You cannot
complete any objectives in this mode.
Free Skate: In Free Skate you get an unlimited amount of time to skate
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ any level you have unlocked in Career Mode. This is mode is
really only good for clearing gaps and practicing.
Multiplayer: I must say, Activision/Neversoft did a bad job of making
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ a multiplayer mode. You can only play against people on
the internet through LAN (If you have it you know what it
is). The only other option is a turn-play system where you
you and a friend can try to top each other's trick combos
in a game of S.K.A.T.E. Like P.I.G or H.O.R.S.E, everytime
your opponent performs a trick, you have to top that trick
and recieve a better score. If you fail to do so you get a
letter. If you get all the letters of S.K.A.T.E, you lose.
Create a Skater: In this mode you can create your very own skater. You
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ can customize his hair, shirt, shirt logo, shoes, and
even give him tattoos. Of course, you can name him and
his hometown and choose if he is to be a vert, street,
or all around skater. Once you're done with that you
will get stats based upon your skating style choice
and you'll get five extra stat points to put anywhere.
Then, once you're completely finished you can start
a career with your created skater.
Park Editor: The Park Editor is pretty much self explanatory, you just
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ choose pieces and put them where you want them to be. You
can also make gaps. Once you're done making your skatepark
You can test it out and make changes as needed. There is
also a pre-made parks option that contains many many skate
parks that are already made for your enjoyment. If don't
know the controls refer to the manual on the inside of the
CD case.
Options: In the Options Menu you can change the sound levels, change
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ graphics preferences, check your gaplist, and many other
things. Once you beat the game you can start to earn cheats
under the cheats menu, so beat the game!
Now I'll explain to you the controls of this game.
Keyboard controls:
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
_______________________
| | | | | CTL: Constantly turn left while in air
| NUM | / | * | - | CTR: Constantly turn right while in air
|_____|_____|_____|_____| GRIND: Perform a grind or lip trick
| | | | | FLIP: Perform a flip trick
| CTL |GRIND| CTR | | GRAB: Perform a grab trick
|_____|_____|_____| + | NS/FK: Switch to Nollie or Fakie stance
| | | | | TL: Turn left while in air
|FLIP | 5 | GRAB| | SS: Switch to normal or switch stance
|_____|_____|_____|_____| TR: Turn right while in air
|NS/FK| | | |
| TL |OLLIE|SS/TR| | OTHER KEYBOARD CONTROLS:
|_____|_____|_____|ENTER| C button: Perform a flip trick
|0 |. | | V button: Grind an edge, lip, or rail
|INS |DEL | | B button: Perform a grab trick
|___________|_____|_____| Spacebar: Ollie/Jump
Now that you know the buttons you probably want to know how to
perform a trick/move. To do a fliptrick, press an arrow key and then the
fliptrick button (ex: <- + [fliptrick button] = heelflip). Same thing
applies to grab tricks but if you hold the grab button you won't stop
the grab until you let go of the button. Also, if you press left or
right while performing a grab trick and holding the grab you'll spin
with the grab in the desired direction.
If the keyboard is ticking you off and you just don't have the
coordination for it you can just hook up your own controller and
configure the button controls in the options menu.

5. Getting Started
-----------------------
Once you become familiar with the game you might want to actually
play it. Go to career mode and start a new career. Then choose the
skater that you want and begin the first level. Complete some objectives
to earn some money to spend. Spend the money on leveling out your stats,
and then once you start to earn more money, buy new decks. Some word of
advice: If I were you, I'd get a street skater. They have better rail
balance and if you raise their manual stats you can balance rails longer
and manual longer and you'll be able to make much better combos that you
couldn't do riding vert.

honest'.
In this section I will be explaining what each trick is and how you perform it.

Flip-tricks}
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
Kickflip: To perform a kickflip you position the toe of your leading foot in
the middle and ollie. When you are in the air you kick down on and flip the
board on its horizontal axis and then land back on it.
Heelflip: A heelflip is the same as a kickflip except you kick the board into
flip with your heel instead of your toe.
Shuvit/Shove it: To perform a shuvit you kick the tail of your board forwards
(or backwards, a BS or hard shuvit) and let the board spin 180 degrees while
you stay stationary in the air and then land on the board.
Pop Shuvit: The same thing as a shuvit except you ollie in the air and do a
shuvit.
360 Shuvit: Same as a shuvit but you kick the tail harder and make the board go
around 360 degrees.
Varial Kickflip: A combination of a kickflip and a shuvit. Do a pop shuvit and
then as the board is about to spin in the air, do a kickflip, and when the
board comes back to the normal position, land.
Varial Heelflip: Exactly the same as a varial kickflip except you do a heelflip
and not a kickflip.
360 flip: A combination of a 360 pop shuvit and a kickflip. That is pretty much
self-explanatory
Hardflip: I'm exactly sure how to do a hardflip, but it is a combination of an
impossible (just half of an impossible) and a kickflip.
Inward Heelflip: Just a hardflip but you do a heelflip instead of a kickflip.
Impossible: A trick where you flip the board into a backflip and then land on
it.
Front Foot Impossible: Same as an impossible but the board does a front flip
(kicking with the front foot).

13. The Real FAQ
-----------------------
Here's the actual "FAQ".
Q: What is an ollie?
A: In an ollie, the skater kicks down on the tail of the board and pops in the
air, sliding his or her other foot up which drags the board with them in the
air. Simple, really.
Q: When will there be more questions in this crappy FAQ?
A: Send in some dang questions!
-----------------------
14. Other
-----------------------
Hmmm... I'm not sure what I should put in here. Well, you'll probably
playing
the game because you like skateboarding or you just like the game. If you
actually want to start skateboarding you should get a deck and trucks from a
friend or buy a cheap deck from any old store like Target or Wal-Mart. Once you
get better you should find and go to a local skate shop and buy some decent
gear. If you keep it up you might be as good as the pros in the game...
