1. Introduction
---------------
The King of Fighters: Kyo is an Adventure/SLG style game developed by SNK in
collaboration with Yumekobo, and the story is based on the manga written by the
latter comapany. It focuses on the story taking place between KOF96 and 97, in
the life of Kyo Kusanagi, from after the 96 tournament, to the beginning and
conclusion of the Orochi plot. Throughout the game you will travel to various
locations around Japan, America and even Mexico, meet with potential teammates
before the tournament, and hopefully convince them to join your cause, and
finally beat the crap out of Iori Yagami as he's going around causing trouble
with your potential teammates. In between all this are little plotlines to
complete as well as numerous battles to fight. So, why a movelist for an SLG/AVG
styled game? All the available FAQ's and guides available elsewhere on the
Internet, do not cover the fighting aspect of this great game much, which I
believe is one of the game's shining points. This FAQ, will solely focus on the
fighting aspect of the game, as well as being a full and complete movelist for
every charater available. For help regarding the rest of the game, I highly
recommend looking at Charles' KOF Kyo Mook, available at:
http://welcome.to/paopaocafe/
The Battle System
-----------------
The fights in the game are run on a pre-determined 3-turn basis. Simply put, you
and the CPU select 3 moves to be done before the 'turn' commences, and the two
moves, in respective order, are then compared against one another. Certain
factors like speed and distance will govern whether or not the move will hit.
In the example above, the first move, Iori will miss, as Kyo dodged, second
move, the distance will close to 1, no hits landed. Finally, the third move, Kyo
will hit, as 1) his speed is higher from the dodge and the forward step, Iori's
is lower from the miss and the Pow charge.
This game also, in my opinion, will test whether you truly 'know' KOF or not,
especially KOF97, as most of the characters are the 97 incarnations. If you
'know' the characters well enough, and if you know all the attacks, then you
will have no problem winning a match, as knowledge of where attacks will place
your characters AFTER each move is executed is also crucial. Of course this
doesn't apply to when fighting Orochi, his moves are like, 'I will kick your
ass, I will REALLY kick your ass, and Take a Hint Already'. Hehe, kidding, find
out for yourself, the system is extremely accurate to the actual KOF moves, so
knowing them all is a must.
Distance Explanation
--------------------
Distance is one of the most important factors in this game, it determines
whether or not a move will land, or whether you are going to eat someone else's
attack. The little green bar your characters are standing on, is a good way to
measure distance in the game, count the number of 'bars' the characters are
apart. Distance 0 means you have to be right next to each other, Distance 1
means you can have one 'block' in between, and so on. Distance 5 means full
screen distance. Pay attention to the distance your characters land in AFTER
move execution, it will help in setting up 'strings' of moves, or thinking what
to do next.

7. Author's Notes
-----------------
This game is one of the most innovative and challenging turn-based games I have
ever played. Almost anyone can claim they're good at a KOF game by simply
practising with one or two characters, or abusing bugs in the game, etc. But
this game, will test you to see how well you truly know the game, if you 'know'
the characters and all the moves inside-out, I can almost guarantee that you
will NOT lose a match. This game is extremely logical, and knowing how
characters fight, their strengths and weaknesses, will win you a match almost
every time. Pay attention particularly to distance and positioning, if SNK
wanted to make a game where distance didn't matter, they wouldn't have
incorporated the step forward or back feature in the game. Practise, and
practise more, this game will also help you improve your game at the regular KOF
titles, as knowing the characters and moves will help anyone's game.
