The creation of this FAQ came about for several reasons, one being increasing
frustration at the dumb hint line they have which I feel is designed to rip
you off, the other being my inability to locate one when I was stuck. So I
decided to write one when I was finised in order to help others who were in
my situation. I consider this an 87% FAQ, by which I mean that all the in-
formation in this FAQ will get you through about 87% of the game. It is
designed to give a reference and to assist people in solving the puzzles of
the game. I did give away some major ones, but I felt some were unfair on
their expectations on the average gamer. If you have anything that may be
contitbutional to this FAQ, E-mail me at r3cjs1@dax.cc.uakron.edu. It will
be included and credited in the occurance of another edition of this FAQ.
This is also my first attempt at writing a FAQ and I'm sure there are numerous
spelling errors and I apologize for anything that is unclear or things
that I blatantly overlooked.

3. KING'S FIELD FAQ WARNING 3.
King's field is a game that is consistant with its story and its manual,
that is the story involves being lost on a little known island, so it
doesn't list many items and their functions or tell you what to do or where
to go. It just gives you some of the basics and lets you explore and discover
things on your own. Which is a large part of the game. This FAQ contains
many giveaways and explanations on what to do and where to find things. I
used the Truth Glass for many of my descriptions and they are taken directly
from the game. So I will advise not to read any further if your interested
in getting the entire game experience, and to only consult this if you are
really stuck or just don't have the time to explore the entire island.
4. ITEMS OF MELANAT 4.
NOTE: This is a listing of most or all of the items in the game

This ring will increase your offense power.
Where found : In the High-Elf's Shrine in a gravestone.
Earth Ring - This ring was made by the warlock, Shaddam, who was the
greatest magician in the three countries of the Northern
Continent. When worn, your magical power will increase.
Where found : In the Heart of the Earth (near poison cave)
Psycpros Collar - This necklace was worn by the one-eyed Giant to restore
the stregth of many years ago. (don't ask, must be a
mistranslation from the PSX Version) When equipped,
physical strength will be increased.
Where found : Given to you by the Large Skeleton of Shaddam North of the
Coliseum.
Amulet of Mist - This Amulet was granted to the High-Elf Merlin by Seath.
When Equipped, this amulet raises your magic defense and
allows you to escaped from difficult status quickly.
Where found : Can be Purchased or found in a niche in the surrounding area.
of the coliseum near the swinging spiked balls.
Lightwave Ring - This ring changes an ordinary arrow into a light arrow,
which will make an ordinary bow or Arbalest more powerful.

in the center of the North tower, which you need Harvine's
Flute to get to. Also can be found behind a secret door in
the first chamber of the Cave of Fire.
Blood Crown - This item looks like an old crown, but it has magical powers.
When it is equipped, it will make your magical interval last
longer.
Where found : In order to get it you need to fall off the edge of the wind
bridge that is right before you get to the Cave of Fire. You
need to navigate through a couple secret doors and its in a
chest at the top of some stairs guarded by two Salamanders.
Remember that the fall does roughly 100 HP of damage.
Dark Crystal - This Crystal looks just like a Blackend Elf's Key
Where found : In the Elf's Shrine
5. MAGICS OF MELANAT 5.
NOTE: Magics are listed in ascending power and divided up
into elemental groups. Also rated is their general effectiveness
on a scale of one to five stars. Magic power makes a large differ-
ence so it is mainly a matter of opinion.
KNOWN THINGS MISSING FROM THIS SECTION : Most powerfull Wind Magic
5.1 =-OFFENSIVE/EQUIPPABLE-=
5.1.1 LIGHT MAGICS ==
Lightning Volt - mp(18) - shoots out a ball of lightning that rises

light magic, more effective in large rooms
since the size of the explosion is directly
realted to ceiling height
Rating = ****

monsters, then each one that connects gives off a
large light explosion.
Rating = *****

Rating = * Doesn't work too well
Light - mp(6) - adds light to wherever you go for a small duration
Rating = **
6. MAIN WEAPONRY ON MELANAT 6.
NOTE: This is a list of the more powerfull swords in the game.
There are many other weapons, but have smaller importance.
NOTE ON SWORD MAGIC: I got this from the King's Field hint page
at ascii's home page. Unfortunatley I got it to late so the list
is somewhat incomplete.
KNOWN THINGS MISSING FROM THIS SECTION: Spider sword, Crystal Sword
SWORD MAGICS: These can be performed only if you don't have any conflicting
armors or shields on. (which is almost never) Most swords have
two different kinds of magic, both of which you need full power
and strength to perform.
Type A - press Square, then triangle. (This is usually difficult
to perform since the timing is akward and is different for each
sword, usually pressing triangle right at the begining of the
sword slash.
Type B - press X then Square, then press and hold Triangle.
Magical swords: (listed in general ascension of power)
6.1 FLAME SWORD --
Magic type A mp(16): shoots multiple fireball spells
Magic type B mp(18): pauses for a second, lifts up sword and shoots
large fiery cloud
Where to Aquire: Its in a hidden room in the Cave of Fire, you need
to kill the stone face to the left of the darkened room with the
grey chest, the door is directly behind the stone face.
6.2 SHIDEN -- WIND SWORD
Magic type A mp(10): shoots out a Wind Cutter Spell
Magic type B mp(12): shoots out two green diamond spells
Where to Aquire : You need to get to the Area just before the East
Village. There will be an area with descending stairs that plateu
about every forty feet. There will be lots of skeletons in graveyards
to the left and right of every plateau. Follow this staircase all the
way to the bottom, it will then start to move up and turn right, when
you get to the top, look down and to the left, see the little island
with the wooden pole? YOU are going THERE! Jump down, should take
about 80 damage, and pick up the sword, use a gate to get out.
6.3 ICE BLADE --
Magic type A mp(19) : shoots out six little ice crystals that explode
on contact
Magic type B mp(27) : shoots out little homing ice crystals that
explode on contact
Where to Aquire : You need to go down into the Ice Cave and defeat
the Big Ice Golem, also known as Kal Fargas. He will drop it when
he dies. The ice cave is near the underworld Base no 4.
6.4 SEATH'S SWORD -- THE SWORD OF THE WHITE DRAGON
Magic type A mp(17) : shoots out beams of light in a circular pattern
Magic type B mp(0) : you hold out the sword, then bring it up to
your face and hold it, as far as I can tell
you are then completely invincible.
Where to Aquire : You have to hack up the High-Elf's spirit in the
Shrine then it appears on a wall. I am unsure about if you have to
kill the spirit or not, it just sits there and you have to hack it up,
at least that's how I got it.
6.5 MOONLIGHT SWORD -- GUYRA'S SWORD
Magic type A mp(22) : shoot pillars of light that explode on contact
Magic type B mp(38) : same as above but much more powerfull
Where to Aquire : I'm not sure if your supposed to actually have this
sword, but i managed to get my grubby hands on it by a must be fluke.
So I'll share with you how I got it. Well first you need lots of hit
points and the ability to get to the end of the game. You need to
confront Guyraand, here's the tricky part, run right into him. Try to
stay as close as possible to him. Sooner or later he will attack you
with his powerfull bite lunge. It will hit you and since it is power-
full, you will be airborne, if you're running forward at this point you
will find yourself ON TOP OF GUYRA. Run down his back and pick up
the Moonlight Sword, then turn around and let him kill you, or jump
off the edge and die, either way hopefully you will be transported
back to the Fountain with the supposed most powerfull sword in the
game ( I think its the Dark Slayer, the game says the Moonlight Sword,
and the King's field hint line says its Seath's sword, so you can call
it for yourself) There must be a different way of obtaining it, at
least one that makes more sense than this one.
6.6 THE DARK SLAYER -- SEATH'S OTHER SWORD
Magic type A mp(15) : shoots a powerfull blast of wind magic
Magic type B mp(17) : pauses, then shoots a pillar of wind magic that
erupts into a big explosion if contacted.
Where to aquire : You need to obtain the Elf's Key(in Elf's cave) and
swap it for the Dark Crystal in the Shrine, then take the crystal and
give it to Leon Shore, he will craft the Dark Slayer for you, also
once it is complete, all of those annoying blue doors will open,
usually with an item of Seath behind it.
7. MONSTERS ON MELANAT 7.
NOTE: Monsters have different levels, so some you encounter in later
areas are considerably more difficult than the early ones. For example
There are at least 4 different kinds of Kraken. The regular ones,
The red ones, the medium sized ones with magic, and the Large Kraken.
THINGS KNOWN MISSING FROM THIS SECTION: Ice Golems, Demon Lords, Miria.
7.1 -=COMMON MONSTERS=-
HEAD EATER - Green Plantlike creatures with what appears to be an quart-
ered watermelon for a head
Attacks with its large mouth, which has poisonous stingers.
These are a different species from the ones in Verdite, and
they are more dangerous.
Side effects = Attempts to poison when attacking
Fighting Strategies => Their head can pivot at fairly odd
angles so try to stay behind them and hack away
GREEN SLIME - Small green jellylike puddles on the ground
They live in groups and reside in dark and damp places.
They have "counteractive water" inside their bodies, so that
poison will be recovered whenever someone touches them. They
can be damaged by fire magic more than by swords.
Side effects = Cures Poison
Fighting Strategies => None really needed, if you have
trouble with these you might want to return the game.
POISON SLIME - Look similar to green slime but have a Red tint to them
Same Species as Green Slime, but they have poison water
in their body.
Side effects = Poisonous
Fighting Strategies => None really, look down and swing
NECRON'S SOLDIERS - Evil looking Knights with brown jerkin and an very
long polearm
Soldiers who were manipulated by Necron. They have lost
their souls and their minds, and they can only attack. There
is no way to help them.
Side effects = none
Fighting Strategies => Don't try to take these head on. Get
them to follow you in one direction and as soon as they
commit, fade either left or right and turn quickly and their
back will be turned to you
ARCHERS - Look just like Necron's Soldiers but have bows instead of
polearms
Former soldiers who were manipulated by Necron. All they can
do now is continuously shoot their bows.
Side effects = Higher level archers shoot paralyzing arrows
Fighting Strategies => They do have to ability to accurately
track you so don't move predictably, either bob and weave
until within melee range or use ranged magics
REIKS - Look like seahorses with a hard shell
A flying creature with a hard shell. It is extremely
ferocious.
Side effects = none
Fighting Strategies => Avoid them when balled up and spinning
otherwise they are fairly easy targets
TERMITE - Look like brown overgrown fire ants
An insect type monster. There are millions of termites
swarming around each nest.
Side effects = paralysis
Fighting Strategies => Make an extra effort not to get hit
since they will paralyze you and continue to attack relent
lessly. Try to run in attack and get out before they lift
their heads up. The game suggests using arrows, but I found
this to be inefficient and too difficult to bother with
BALTAIL - Look like giant mosquito's with green eyes
Insect-type monsters that have excellent eyes and ears and
attack from above.
Side effects = poisonous stinger
Fighting Strategies => These are extremly difficult to hit
with weapons and are usually too bothersome to waste time
with. I found that Stone magic is a great way to knock them
out of the air and usually kills them
SIGILL - Blue fish that are found only in the ocean
Grotesque and ferocious fish that live in the sea. They
attack in packs whenever anyone gets close to them.
Side effects = none
Fighting Strategies => Don't bother them, and they won't
bother you
KRAKEN - Black Squid that wander around the coastal areas
The ruler of the North sea. With its giant legs, it drags
ships into the water. Before growing up, this monster is
small and not very powerfull.
Side effects = none
Fighting Strategies => Run in quick and give em a good whack
this will make their heads slowly deflate and fade out, use
this time to rotate yourself to their back and kill them from
behind
SKELETON - Well, they look like skeletons with swords
Necron granted wicked souls to bodies that were already dead.
They can be revived until they are completely destroyed.
Side effects = none
Fighting Strategies => Waste no time in front of these guys,
they have a lunge attack with a very long reach and start
swinging like mad when you're real close. No matter what
level you're on, deal with them carefully
GHOSTS - Look like a long faced classic ghost
Ghosts that appears in certain areas. If they touch you,
you will be paralyzed.
Side effects = paralysis, darkness, and slowness
Fighting Strategies => They can move long distances quickly,
but are easily fooled by obstacles and tricky walls and get
stuck often. They will make you slow so be carefull
PSYTHE - Headless skeletons with a sythe in their right hand
A Death created by the Mage of Fire. He has high intelligence
and posseses many kinds of magic. A large psythe can
paralyze your body.
Side effects = curse and occasionally shoots ghosts
Fighting Strategies => Watch out for their curse spell, other
than that their attacks aren't too damaging but will become
a serios threat if in groups
S-KNIGHT - Big, brown, two-headed snails
A ferocious creature which eats everything. It has a strong
defensive ability and its shell can't be damaged.
Side effects = none
Fighting Strategies => They have a ranged attack so tread
carefully. They rotate extremely slowly and its best to
dodge their magic and run by them, then turn around and
regain you strength meter and attack the side of their heads
SALAMANDER - Stationary red salamanders
Ornaments which are made by the Mage of Fire, Tsedeck. After
losing their power, the ornaments attacked with their fire
magic.
Side effects = none
KALD - Look like purple eels with fangs
This monster lives in the mines and attacks suddenly from its
dark hiding spot. It can see in the dark.
Side effects = possibly darkness, seldom encountered
Fighting Strategies => Wait until they charge at you with
their mouths open, dodge to the side and spin around fast
and you should catch their tails disappearing into the
darkness. Chase them down and hack away
EARTH ELEMENTAL - Look like grey dinosaurs with long necks
Uses stone ball magic. (that's all they tell you) They are
dinosaurs with freeze attacks and are located in the
Heart of the Earth.
Side effects = none
Fighting Strategies => Don't waste time with ranged attacks,
just work your way past their magic and start swinging
REFMA - Blue faced floating heads with a strange pattern for hair
The soul of the High-Elf, which is protecting their Dark
Crystal. It doesn't remember what it once was, and attacks
those who come near it.
Side effects = Takes MP away unless there isn't any, then
it takes HP
Fighting Strategies => Fight them similar to the way you fight
ghosts and they shouldn't pose any real threat
LOG STALKER - Look like walking trees
A heinous monster that attacks people. It used to be a dead
tree before it was given a soul by Necron.
Side effects = none
Fighting Strategies => They have ranged magic, so keep on
your toes. They also attack fairly quickly so try to run
in, strike and run out
MOGLE - Looks like a green jumping coffee table with red eyes
An animal which evolved only on the island of Melanat. It
attacks its prey with its sharp fangs and strong legs.
Sometimes it jumps on its victim and crushes it to death.
Side effects = none
Fighting Strategies => No really effective ones, just watch
out for when it jumps at you.
7.2 -=MAJOR BOSSES=-
GUYRA - Very Large Black Dragon
The Black Dragon who is opposed to the White Dragon,
"Seath." Guyra broke a black crystal which controls the
powers of nature. He created the "Moonlight Sword" to
make his chosen warriors fight for his revival.
Side effects = none save his powerfull magics
Fighting Strategies => Fairly weak after all the bitts are
taken care of. Then just use powerfull magics to kill him
(Flash is usually best to use)
BITT - Little yellow ball of light
Guyra's final guard. It sucks in all magic.
Side effects = Engulfs all magic shot at Guyra
Fighting Strategies => Magic is useless so just wait until
they are low enough and hack em up. You can coax them to
come close to you by shooting your magic which they will
immediatly move in to engulf, then kill them. Make sure
to kill all of them before trying to kill Guyra.
COPPER KNIGHT - This monster was created by the Mage of Fire and the King
of Winds to guard the King's treasure.
Side Effects = none
TARN - The Mage of Ice, who was transformed by a man in the darkside
This creature used to be an Ice Warrior know as Kal Fargus,
who owned a Coliseum. Tarn kept all of the equipment that he
used before.
Side effects = none
EARTH ELEMENTAL - Identical to the common one, just bigger.
DEMON LORD - A monster created by a man in the darkside, Necron. This
Creature has a high intelligence and posseses high level magic
Side effects = none
LARGE TERMITE - Looks just like small termite, only larger.
Side effects = paralysis?
Fighting Strategies => Stand just outside termites nest, use
range magics and arrows to kill him
LARGE KRAKEN - Just a very large Kraken
side effects = none
Fighting Strategies => Find a place on the shoreline where
he can't hurt you but you can still hit him with ranged attacks
He has approximately 25 billion hit points, so it will take some
time.
DIAS BAGIL - This guy is actually Necron, Red armor and carries a half-
moon blade.
Attracted by a man in the darkside, this man came to the
island. He calls himself "Necron." He is known as the best
warrior in the world, and he owns the Coliseum.
Side effects = Lots and Lots of Magic spells
Fighting Strategies => Stay close to him so you are immune to
his Earth Wave, and if he launches a Flash spell, it will hit
both of you. Alternate between a powerfull magic and Sword
slashes to keep him busy.

ball. Nothing about herself is known except that she is female

sister Nola came to the island, Fai has been trying to send her
back to the continent.

Location - Technically not in the South Village, he is at the end
of a narrow rocky passage just to the right of the small
mine entrance

Elves. There were many talented craftsmen in High-Elf, but Leon
exceeded all of them in talent and ability
Description - Watering garden at his mothers house, wearing brown
pants with a yellow sleeved green shirt
Location - East Village outside of mother's house
9. THINGS I WISHED SOMEONE WOULD HAVE TOLD ME BUT NEVER DID 9.
1. Do NOT sell your large crystals for quick cash before you get to the
Central Village, you can have two of them made into a crystal flask which
is much more useful than the 1200 gold.
2. Crystal shards are dead weight and can be sold for cash, I haven't
encountered anyone that will make something out of them.
3. Don't waste crystals by making arrows, there will be plenty of those later.
4. After you gain some levels, you will start surviving those large falls in
to pits or off bridges, there are several helpfull items at their bottoms.
As long as their is a floor at the bottom, jump.
5. Gaining strength and Magic power is directly related to the total number
of hit points you have taken off enemies, not how many you kill.
6. You can save Rhombus keys that lead to dead ends by entering, letting
the door close, retrieving the one on the inside, then use a gate and come
back and get the one on the outside.
7. Seath's Fountain is located behind a secret passage in the last cell of
the Underworld Prison Number 1.
8. Its best to get magic replenishing water from Seath's Fountain
with your first Dragon Stone, use it to open the water stream directly across
from the hit point stream. Once you place a dragon stone, you can't remove it.
9. King's Field does NOT require 15 memory blocks so you don't need a dedicated
memory card, It only takes 2 blocks for EACH saved game.
10. You use the bow by pressing and holding the attack button, then your
strength will raise to full, let go to release arrow. (its silly but took me
some time to figure it out.)
11. Three of those annoying blue doors that say SEALED will open when you
place all three Dragon Stones, the rest that say NOT ACCEPTED will open when
you have the Dark Slayer.
12. You can Enter the Elf's Shrine by putting a Shrine Key into both Wheels
just outside of it. Then spin the one farthest from the door two notches,
and the closest once. Your aligning the two symbols on the shields of
the warriors painting inside Leon's Mother's house. I thought this was a long
stretch for a clue, but if you fall down the pit, the wall says that the
great doors will open when the Warriors stand again. I thought it had
something to do with the warriors graves next to the coliseum.
13. King's field tended to freeze up from time to time, so save often.
14. Your name is Alexander.
That's about it for this version of the Faq, future editions might be in the
works, it depends on what new info is available and how important it is. I
hope that this has helped some past their problems and has brought usefull
knowledge to others. Thanks to ASCII for the great game. And thanks to my
brother for helping with the FAQ and pointing out the obvious when I was lost.
